Jordan ~ What are we called apon Jordan? Well Jesus said ..''lf anyone wants to be My disciple he must deny himself, pick up his cross, and follow ME. For whoever looses his life for MY sake shall find it'' ~ Mathew 16: 24 -25 l;m trying to find out what that means and do it, because I am NOT a ''good person'' as Romans 3:10 points out. See ...l dont want to spend an eternity in hell Jordan, but that is exactly where we deserve to be ..so sayeth The Lord. l CANT change myself though. The only way we get mercy is if The Father Himself decides to give it. ~ Happy New Year, and much love and prayers to you my friend. :D ~ Van BC

His central thesis is that one cannot say “I believe in God” unless one lives the perfect life of demonstrable belief. But that missed something very important about the Christian faith, which is the sad, humble, yet hopeful acceptance that I am flawed, but trying to live my belief, and I’m unable to do so without grace, but I believe God will help me live my belief. It’s a much more courageous thing to say “Lord I believe, help my unbelief “ and keep pressing on
@sandraticker3468
@sandraticker3468 Жыл бұрын
With all due respect, Mr.Ricciardi, how is it by God's grace if, as you put it, I am to believe what Jesus did for me, do my best, and keep pressing on? Also, what am I or have become when I claim to be a believer? Because “I believe” means to me living as Christ did. Total adherence to the Will and Word of God. My actions show me if, how much, and to what degree I genuinely believe in God. Claiming to be a believer in Jesus Christ who lived doing nothing but the will of God by the power of God’s Spirit means that Jesus has now deposited that same Spirit within me. The belief then is much like the man Jesus Christ; I have my own will and outside forces which oppose God's Word and Spirit that now reside in me. Believing is not when I say, know or agree with God's Word and Spirit. Instead, when I align my mind(thinking), soul ( emotions), and body (behavior) to the Will and power of God’s Spirit. This is the death to the flesh Paul writes about in the book of Romans. The personal choice of crucifying the flesh and living by the Spirit is the work that James wrote about, stating, “Faith without works is dead.” The weak idea of God's forgiveness plus doing your best for God understands you are only human goes against the standard of Jesus Christ. Remember these words? “ Do not be hearers of the Word but doers.” It is also written, Not those who say, Lord, Lord, but rather those who “do” the Will of the Father will inherit the Kingdom of God. The call to become a believer is not for the faint of heart. It is unbelievable how many people claim Christ, belief themselves to be a new creature in Christ, yet accept limitations the dead in Christ could easily apply to themselves while understanding it to be faith. They state the obvious, “no one is perfect,” as they continue to “do their best and keep on.” Jesus said, “Be ye perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Agreeing that God is perfect and actually doing only His will makes you perfect. If you do not see perfection as you proceed doing only God's will, Jesus lied about God’s perfection, or you are doing something contrary to His perfect will. God’s grace is the supernatural ability to do God’s will because before that, I am dead in my sins. Before God’s Grace, my so-called righteous actions were not motivated by love (regardless if I believed them to be), rendering them unacceptable to the Creator. I also, at that time, had no power from God's Spirit to continue in Christ, dying daily and walking by the Spirit. Jesus is the Way ↕️ to God. We are to obey His commandments. How He was born, lived, and died bears the Truth of God. God is Spirit, and Jesus was born (by the Spirit) and lived (obeying God who is Spirit even to the point of death, disregarding His will and submitting to the Father’s will). He is the Light for and of the world because He is the only source of life-giving light by which man can live. The belief that He is the Truth exposes us to the Light, which illuminates the Way to God. The Truth informs us of who we really are and our relation to God in our current state. We experience a Miraculous new birth. We are flooded with the Light (the knowledge of Jesus), which shows us God and His love for us). We accept God and concede to follow His Way (Jesus) by choosing to live by the Spirit, putting to death the deeds of the flesh. We do not get to merely “do our best and keep pressing on.” If the same Spirit that raised a dead Jesus from a guarded, closed tomb be in us who are alive and well, how can we reduce it to doing our best and keep on pressing? Thank God the disciples and the first church didn't have this attitude. I think Mr. Peterson is saying some people may not understand what true belief means.

When science has proven this is false the earth is 4.5 billion years old and not flat covered in a dome to keep water out. It's what's known as brainwashing. Thats just the answer the main reason i became a born again christain as for the rest of the nonsense and lies you said i believe in, the world being 6 thousand years old? ( the bible doesn't say the world is is 6 thousand years old)Your words not mine because i believe what God says and not mere ignorant men like like yourself who blaspheme God to their own destruction. You will be one of those men who will faint from terror apprehensive of what is coming on the world as Jesus predicted. When you see the new world order, ( and you will be alive to see it ) one world religion, government, currency, the false christ, the antichrist coming to power to deceive many you wont be so smart with your mouth, its bad enough you judge me for being a Christian but you have the neck to judge the one true living God, almighty God,. ( I didn't become a born again Muslim because Allah didn't die on the cross nor was he raised to life again. ) Glory to God, thanks be to God for Jesus and the cross, Hallelujah, come Lord Jesus, instead of mocking God you will faint from terror as Jesus predicted, i didn't answer half the nonsense you mentioned what's the point for it is written 2 Corinthians 4:4 But if our gospel be hid, it is hod to them that are lost : in whom the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. ( I like you was blind but now I see, when Jesus said he came to release the captive and blind, he meant spiritually discerned and spiritually blinded ,just like yourself my friend, why dont you repent from your sins, your blasphemy etc and ask Jesus to reveal himself to you, he will forgive you, for all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved, before it is too late, you have a heart full of hatred and only God can release you from the control you are under, tbe devils. Good bye and God bless you. ( You must be born again to inherit the kingdom of God, to understand God's word cannot be done without the gift of the Holy Spirit. ) Psalm 14:1 The fool says in his "heart, there is no God. " ( By the way ,no-one brainwashed me, i cried out to God in wholehearted repentance from the sinful lifestyle i was living and was set free through the sacrifice ofJesus Christ on the cross which is exactly why almighty God sent Jesus to this world, to reconcile sinners to God ,no-one witnessed to me ,i got on my knees and cried out to the one true living God, you ought to do so yourself because time is running out. Man, everything that has happened in this world and to me and my friends and family in the past 2 and a half years has been utterly indescribable. I spent my whole life trying to find truth and meaning while wallowing in sin (didn't even understand how sin blinds and enslaves the heart until more recently), and basically being tormented, cynical, and bitter - hating humanity for most of my life. I am just so thankful to God that He had his hand on me the entire time even though I actively tried to suppress, diminish, and argue against Him. His mercy and love is well beyond human comprehension. All of this covid propaganda and tyranny scared the hell out of me, and I mean that, it scared the HELL out of me. It made me realize that evil is truly real, and that evil resides in me. I saw how I NEED righteousness, how I NEED to know the ways of peace, it made me see how my own sin is being used as part of this entire evil global agenda taking place, and I need a SAVIOR to save my own soul. This is when I started to fear God properly, and this is when my heart finally humbled and cried out to Him to reveal Himself to me. Let me to you all, when you get this humbled and this aware of the evil in your own heart, and you choose to beg for righteousness, for truth, for hope, however you want to say it, THIS IS WHEN GOD HEARS YOU, and HE WILL ANSWER. He is real and He is alive, and Jordan Peterson is right to be afraid that He might be real, because HE IS REAL, HE IS LIVING. You just better get ready for it because life is going to be a lot different to say the least, but it will be BETTER. There is hope, and God can teach you truth, wisdom, how to treat people, what to focus your heart and mind on, all these things He can give you if you just sincerely ask. You will have to make sacrifices, but those things you hate to give up are, in reality, the things that keep you in bondage to sin, keep you weak, keep you bitter, keep you afraid, but it is WELL WORTH IT. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and that is a fact Jack!

Not always though. Some addicts hate what they do, but do it anyway. That's not a matter of believing, it's a physical and psychological compulsion. Even if they do stop, they still want to do it. I think sin is kinda like that, to varying degrees. Some sins are easier to choose not to do, while others (like sinful thoughts) are nearly impossible to avoid. So a perfect life is impossible for us, which is why God fixed it, through his Son, Jesus Christ. Paul explains it well in the book of Romans. "1There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." - Romans 8:1-4

It is also claiming that I have the freedom to live with sense and purpose. For the longest time I’ve dreaded answering a certain question. “Are you a Christian?” On one hand there’s a burning desire for me to say “Yes.” Because I know God exists. On the other hand I think how dare I say I’m a follower of Christ when in truth I wallow in sin every day and turn my back on God when he calls to me. There are two verses I will paraphrase: Let the redeemed in the lord say so. And: Deny me to your friends and I will deny to my father. I dread this question because my sin makes unworthy to call myself a Christian, and on the other hand I dread this question because I don’t want people to misinterpret what I mean when I say I’m not a Christian. A lot of people don’t understand the difference. Even writing this seems sinful. Jesus you are Lord. Glory be to God.

There's this weird idea that Christians are incapable of sinning. It's not true..that's why Jesus had to come in the first place. The law of Moses showed people their sin, but they didn't have the ability to square that debt with God - much less stop sinning. Each day is the start of a new walk with Christ, and there is a constant effort to turn towards Him. He knows we will fail sometimes, but that doesn't make you less of a Christian. Remember, when you were saved you had a spiritual rebirth. You are still stuck in this flesh body that is corrupted, which is why sin still happens. We won't be fully capable of living a sinless life until Jesus returns and we are made to be like Him. This is why it's so important to stay in prayer and study your Bible everyday - it helps to keep you on the right path.

God doesn’t want you as a follower because of how good YOU are. We all fall short. He wants you as FAMILY because of how good HE is. If you let Him, He will change you into someone who can be PROUD to call on His name. But in the meantime, know that “His mercies are new every morning.” Lamentations 3:22-24. Another scripture I stand on is “You've gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. With your hand of love upon my life, you impart a blessing to me.” Psalm 139:5-6 TPT. If HE forgave us, but you can’t forgive yourself, you’ll never walk in His full favor & blessing. The fundamental point that Dr. Peterson misses here (and I don't presume to know more or be more wise than him because he is a far more intelligent and well-read man than I am) is the concept of God's grace. Nietzsche was spot on saying the only real Christian was Christ himself, and that's the entire point. Christ lived a perfect life so that we don't have to. It's not about believing in God for "even the demons believe and shudder." It's about accepting the free gift of Christ's sacrifice so that on the day of judgement, God sees Jesus' perfection instead of our sin. I think his third point is truly the hang up. "Men despise religion. They hate it, and fear it may be true." - Blaise Pascal

Take exercise and eating healthy, we know that it’s the best for us, that it’s going to keep us from going through so much pain and suffering in our life and yet we still struggle to do it. Faith can be like that. Sin can be like that. We all can know what we’re doing is wrong and still do it. Its our broken nature.

Do I still fall short, sure, as you point out we have a fallen nature. But I don't find comfort in sinning anymore, or I find it a lot less appealing anyway. That change within me can only be credited to Christ. He was knocking, I just never let Him in. Now that I have, I genuinely don't want Him to leave. Therein lies redemption, mine at least.

Actually, Romans 7 is largely misinterpreted as Paul speaking from position of a Christian, but he is speaking from his position as a Pharisee. Even in his high Jewish position of upholding the law in its entirety, he could not on his own. Constantly falling back into sin, he needed help from God, which only comes through baptism of the Holy Spirit and the subsequent baptism by fire that follows. Baptism in water is where many Christians stop, but we cannot imitate Christ without the power that comes from on high in the form of the Holy Spirit. Do not get it twisted; a Christian should be free from sin, holy and blameless in their walk with Christ, obedient to all that he commands including going out and making disciples over all the earth.
@db-pz1dh
@db-pz1dh 2 жыл бұрын
@@jacecockayne2054 I don't think anyone was saying that just because we're saved we can go out and sin all we want. Seems to me like we were saying just the opposite, praising Jesus Christ for His sanctifying work in us. And He's the only person that has ever walked this earth holy and blameless. Romans 7 does not say Christians are expected to never sin. Paul explains that the law showed us what sin was, that our flesh is a slave to sin and constantly at war with our spirit which wants to do what's good. Only our spirit in Jesus Christ is holy and blameless to God. "*Romans 8* 1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.a 2For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set youb free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin.c He thus condemned sin in the flesh, 4so that the righteous standard of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit." Edit: I said "we don't make disciples" but I looked up the Greek, mathēteuō also translates as teach. I thought it meant a follower of Christ. Yes we are to spread the Gospel. Beyond that, I don't think we have any power to make them do anything. Like when people use the term "soul winning", that sounds like they're doing it with their own power or skill and I just don't think so. God sometimes allows us the privilege of being involved in His work of bringing someone to Christ. Most of the time we get in the way, like the rude church lady who flat-out told me I was going to hell because I played music in bars. That turned me right off and kept me away from "church" for 40 years. In a way I think maybe it was a good thing I wasn't raised in the church; my sinful secular life gave me a more realistic idea of what we're capable of. Anything that's good comes from God, not us. I think the last 10k years of civilization testifies to that, for in spite of knowing that being good would be the best way to live, because when we don't suffering ensues, we still don't do good.

I believed in God for as long as I can remember. As a child I made up songs to sing to Him. As I got older I still prayed and wished for that connection. I could always see something deeper in certain people and I would try to be like those people. So after many life fails and floundering, I married a man that had that amazing ability to always know right from wrong and lived courageously in who he was. After years of trying to be like him and always failing, I knew that it was a God thing and when we died I would not be going to the same place my husband would be going. Then a new preacher and his family moved in to one of the little farm houses next door to us. And of course the ‘you should just come to church’ began. My husband and I went reluctantly (he had bad experiences as a young boy in church and saw too many organized religious people as hypocrites) I was incredibly uncomfortable in churches because of my mountain of sin. This preacher was totally different than any I had heard before…no fire and brimstone. He simply stated in every message that Jesus died for my sins and He was buried and rose on the third day according to the scriptures. He also divided the word of God into the context of who God was dealing with at that time in the Bible and who those promises and parameters were for. It made such a difference to have those distinctions. The Old Testament was when God was dealing with the Jews and he gave them the law because they told God “we will do this” instead of relying on God. Jesus came to earth to bring in the promised kingdom and to be the Jews king,but they rejected him and hung him on the cross. At that time the rules changed. That kingdom was postponed. At the cross it pleased God the Father to place the sins of the whole world on His Son so that some would be saved…the ones that believe. I can tell you the exact point in time that I believed, and my life will never be same, Thanks to my God! And I will be with my precious husband after death for eternity along with the rest of the believers in Christ.

Believing in God doesn't mean you're a good person. It means that you recognize that you are a wretched sinner who deserves damnation and is in desperate need of a savior. The closer to get to God the more you realize just how evil your own heart is and that it is only because of His grace and love for His creation that any of us can ever be redeemed from the sins we've commited and will continue to commit. In fact the only thing that sets us apart from the unsaved is that we have accepted christ as our savior and do our best to repent of our sin. That's it.abd even that is granted to us by our heavenly Father. All this other crap is other people's imaginations of us based on their own guilty consciences. So there is really no virtue in and of ourselves. That's why the apostle Paul said "if you boast, boast only in the Lord" because we have nothing worth boasting about in the light of Christ our savior.

As I was listening to this, it struck me that JP is approaching Christianity, and the statement, “do you believe in God?” by the point of view of The Law. I wonder if he has studied the Bible post Gospels? The purpose of the Law isn’t to justify, but to condemn. He is correct in the condemnation of Christians who fail to act as if they believe God exists. But, as with almost all of JP’s commentary on the Bible (including what I’ve seen of his Old Testament lectures) he is missing Christ. The Law does demand, “who are you to say you believe?” Christ’s response is that we cannot believe, or act, as if we believe. That’s why Christ came! We aren’t capable of integrating our personality (to borrow the phrase) with enough consistency to achieve belief. JP references the story of Abraham sacrificing Isaac. And again, misses Christ. The cultures around Abraham sacrificed their children. The Chaldeans (Abrahams heritage before God called him) was where the idol Baal originated. The purpose of the story is God, essentially, demonstrating this: those other “gods” demand that you sacrifice your sons to attain their favor. God, instead, supplies Abraham with a ram, at the 11th hour, as a symbol of the coming Christ. God loves us, and instead sacrifices HIS son so we can achieve his favor.

Every Sunday in Church, we Catholics say "I confess to almighty God .... that I have sinned through my own fault.... through my most griesous fault, and I ask Blessed Mary Ever Virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord Our God." This is the archetypal prayer of the believing sinner. To someone like Jordan this would appear to be insufficient, as of course it certainly is. In a sense he is right. It is certainly insufficient to be able to justify our sinfulness. But to therefore say that no sinner can be a believer is fundamentally wrong. It is precisely the acknowledgement of our sinfulness that humbles us and bonds us more deeply to the One Whom we call Our Savior, otherwise, if we were able to be righteous we would have no need of Him.

Jesus is at the right hand of the Father interceding for us. The rest (Mary and the other followers of Christ) are worshipping at the throne. Just because the martyrs are asking one question in Revelations doesn't mean that they are interceding. They all are the cloud of witnesses. Heresy breeds where people are discouraged from reading the whole counsel of God for THEMSELVES. The Word warns is from the very heresies that came up in the catholic church, but no one there knows because again: they are not allowed to read the Bible for themselves. My neighbor who is 68 years old and only had a Latin Bible during her upbringing in the CC, has just read with me through the whole Bible during the last year. One of the heresies is: telling priests that God doesn't want them to marry. Christ said: " From the fruit of a tree you can see whether the tree is good or evil" Of course, forcing young men to not get married is just what the devil needed to hurt children through the centuries.

This is the second time I’ve heard this from Dr Peterson’s mouth on a video. I can agree that we should take faith and forgiveness and begin studying and applying the Law to ourselves, but we all know that ALL have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God and none of us have any hope without Christ’s Mercy and Sacrifice. Faith without works is dead but we will never get there by our own works! We must have faith then begin living God’s commandments, and then we have a shot. Figuring out what He wants of us is part of that journey. Many of us start at just got saved and we know Jesus set us Free, then we move onto learn he wants us to love our neighbors and we try and then we go through all these stages in our faith, some go from sinner to bringing everyone they meet to church so they might get saved some take a lifetime to work up the nerve to ask a stranger “Do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord?” Dr Peterson you say that’s an invasion of your privacy to merely ask you that question. No it isn’t. You’re uncomfortable with the question based on your own doubts and conviction. I’ve been on both sides of the question and it carries no malice only an attempt to start a conversation that might give someone a chance to offer to tell you about Jesus and his Free gift of mercy. I hope you find a faith that makes you comfortable talking about Jesus in a loving way not a scolding people for attempting to share immortality, and confidence and certainty and boldness and love with you. I would’ve thought such an accomplished academic could’ve reduced that themselves and maybe the point of the speech was something else entirely, but looking into your mind would’ve been an invasion of your privacy. Asking a question like do you know Jesus as your Lord? is no more invasive than how’s it going? is. I mean it, I hope you find Jesus and the Holy Ghost so you’ll have such an understanding that you would welcome the conversation. Also, you say “I believe in God” means some sort of claim to being morally infoulable. No. It means we know we’re all messed up and we found Mercy and Grace and we would be happy to share that with you. Now Jordon Peterson, Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and God manifest in the flesh? Do you know him as your Lord and Savior? I would love to pray with you about that and any other concerns you have.

@@davepugh2519 that is not the way it is today and it was required of the Israelites only obviously. People that signed on and then broke the contract (Old Covenant) You still are alive and kicking are you not? What Peterson does is read the text and analyze it from a clinical perspective. Brilliant really and what was intended in the first place. That is how you learn from the story and it's examples. There is much even you could learn from the Bible. It is a great study of human nature. Some in the New Testament but mostly intended on a spiritual level. New Covenant.

This is such a good meditation on fear of the Lord. Truly, if we believed that God is who he says He is in every situation. He actually cares about us and loves us. And that to defy or rebel against Him has dire consequences. All of that that goes with believing in God - it really would be life-changing! May those of us who say we believe in God not only say it, but truly believe in God - how powerful He is. How good he is. How righteous he is. How loving he is. How severe he is. How all-knowing He is - the fact that He sees and knows everything, including the future. And that He can do more than we could ever ask, think or imagine. (!!!)

Amazing to me that somebody else like Jordan struggles with the question. I thought it was just me. I consider myself a believer in god. I don’t follow any particular dogma. As other commenters have pointed out, some of the worst people I have met have been active participants in Church. It’s the absolute certainty that some people have that scares me. My branch of Christianity is the true religion. My branch of Islam, Judaism etc is the true religion, there is no god etc etc. I think we miss a myriad of possible truths as well. Whenever I’m in real trouble or somebody I care about is in real trouble, I pray. It’s involuntary. I’m hard wired to do it. This is what convinces me I have a belief in god. That and trying to live my life without trespass.

Dr. Peterson continually conducts his emotional search before the public, convicting me, as a believer in Jesus, of my lack of authenticity. Whether or not you believe, Dr. Peterson, I thank God for you, laying bare, at all times, your heart for true committment. I fail, yet am absolutely encouraged by you Dr. Peterson. Thank you so much for taking the time to help millions think in a beautiful direction
