I am an Indian who works in Dhaka and Ms. Imam has perfectly articulated the ground realities. The AL rumour mill is very active; they want to show to the people and the world that without them Bangladesh is not capable to function without them. And India’s big brother attitude doesn’t go down well. I found the same animosity amongst Nepalese people against India (government not people, it must be clarified). Indian neighbourhood policy sucks. India is itself run by a fundamentalist party, so anything coming from them and their media cronies should be discounted. This Bangladeshi generation is a very different proposition than the image of Bangladesh that Indian constructs. I, with the local team, have to sometimes work with Indian corporate interlocutors and their attitude and besh our is very arrogant, to put it mildly. It’s a changing world and India would do better to understand that their regional hegemony won’t work. That’s the feeling from the ground. The fact that “Bangladesh [is the] 4th largest remittance source for India, remitting over $10.00 billion since 2017, should tell India not to mess their relationship with Bangladesh playing the communal card and fear mongering on Indian corporate crony media. This Bangladesh wants to be an equal partner and not be exploited for India’s business or geopolitical interests here.

The tentative names of the 15 members of the BANGLADESH interim government has been announced after Dr Md Yunus's arrival at Dhaka from Paris. The list included names of eminent educationists, jurists, bankers, foreign policy bureaucrats, Human Rights activists, besides 2 of the most prominent student leaders who led the movement. The team also includes women, at least 2 from the minority communities, and others from special groups. Significantly, as insisted upon by the student leaders, no representatives from any of the existing political parties were inducted.
@sklux6147
@sklux6147 2 ай бұрын
Mr Yunus is going to be the new head of state in Bangladesh. Let him rule over Bagladesh and show that peace and stability returns. Being an intelligent and patriotic person, he will do his best. He may not survive for more than 2- 3 years. Sri Lanka managed to roll back quickly and returned to the ways of peace on their own. The onus is as much on the citizens as it is on the new leadership. So far so good. Bangladesh cannot be equated with SL. Cause and source of the trouble lie elsewhere. Leaving little scope for any leadership to take control and roll back successfully. Like with the individuals, every country chooses it's destiny. Wanting to be democratic and becoming democratic are two exclusive realities. Holding fresh free and fair elections and forming a new govt is just a beginning. Democracy is to be achieved by the people and the govt, hand in hand. When citizens are willing and are able to live according to the ways and needs of democracy then democracy becomes reality. Most countries who wished to become democratic have failed or they are forced to be satisfied with mock democracy which is more of autocracy with just a symbolic resemblance to democracy. That ultimately is worse. Autocracy is easy and convenient to the leadership. Democracy is difficult to digest and to follow for the people, in reality. Democracy demands genuine tolerance and level playing in all walks of life and in all matters of governance. Democracy has a good chance of success even when the two conditions are not met 100% but able to comply with atleast 60 to 70% of the time and occasions. Success of Democracy is the proof that people are democratic in the first place. Mostly the lure of democracy is used by the vested powers, internal or external. It is used to distract the people, even when they are better off. People are lead to think that lack of democracy alone lies at the root of all their miseries and misfortune. They may realise their mistake, if at all, only after their attempt to establish democracy has failed. Many societies are inherently incapable of being or becoming democratic. May the peace return to Bangladesh sooner than later. Good luck to Democracy in Bangladesh.

Unfortunately, all of them analysed things aggressively, and they simply explained things as if they were representatives of Hasina’s Party, the Awami League. They don’t even have 20% of the knowledge about Bangladesh's Socio-economic condition. Compared to that, Mr Siddharth along with Barrister Imam unleashed the reality and explained things perfectly which led to downfall of Sheikh Hasina.

There's a wide spread anti-India feelings and mistrust against India in Bangladesh. I can list some reasons: 1. India wanted a party or person to lead BD who is friendly towards India and it was Awami League of Sheikh Hasina. India is seen as a collaborator to autocratic rule of Hasina. 2. India as a big country played a big brother role and BDs had some kind of jealousy and hatred towards that big bully. 3. India had been extracting lot of benefits from BD like railway corridors from West Bengal to Tripura through BD without giving any such reciprocating benefits to BD. BD wanted a road corridor to Nepal for it's economic & commercial benefit which was a matter of 18kms distance, but India didn't extend this to BD. 4. Farrakka and Teesta water was another issue, which BD wanted for their agriculture and irrigation but India didn't relent to their demands. 5. Modi's Anti Muslim stance in India starting from Babri Masjid demolition to recent spate of lynchings, beef ban, discrimination against Muslims etc left a negative impact against India amongst BDs. 6. There had been widespread rumours in BD that Hasina's inner core of security is manned by India's RAW, which could be true as her father was assassinated by BD army generals & she has deep distrust on her own army but relied on India, fanning more hatred towards India. 7. Indian products from as simple as Match boxes to Heavy machineries were flooding BD and general perception was that they became a colony of India. 8. Hasina was seen as a puppet of India and when she turned unpopular in the country, India became unpopular as well. 9. The list can go on, but these I feel are major reasons for "deep hatred" among BDs towards India. India shouldn't interfere in the recent political developments in BD but should play the role of a friend, advisor and falicitator in peaceful transition of power in BD.

@@jaibhaumik5971 Hi, I'm from Bangladesh. I agree with your observation that the secular stature of Bangladesh is pretty questionable and there has been a rise of Islamic fundamentalism in Bangladesh for the last decade or so. What my Indian friends fail to realize is that much of it can be blamed on the Hasina regime and the policies her government has taken over the years. One of the reasons she managed to stay in power for this long is that she has somehow established herself as the sole trusted ally for Delhi in Bangladesh and that beyond her are all Islamists and anti india forces. Her regime saw the most growth of Islamism in our history. There has been quite a lot of cases of attacks on minorities during her rule and many of them have been made possible due to her policies. Recently she has built 300 mosques funded by the government. She has been recognised as "Qoumi jononi" by the ulema for her role of promoting the religion of islam.

After every revolution there is some chaos. Compared to most revolutions and the after math of revolutions, Bangladesh did tremendously well. And hate towards Mujib is justified, because he behaved just like Hasina before he died. And, this generation of Bangladeshis have zero respect for Indians for good reasons. Fix your foreign policy, fix your big brother like attitude. Then we may talk.

The 2008 election was fairly ok and I personally think that reflected people's choice but 2014, 2018, 2024 elections were rigged. Right before the 2024 election hasina govt. started mass arresting leaders of opposition parties (mostly BNP) so that they can't participate in the election to begin with. Hasina controlled the judiciary system and appointed the justices at the highest court. You are free to imagine the rest of the scenario.

@gourabvishalsing8215, if you need lessons, please check London riot on 6th August 2011, a few riots in the USA. People in Bangladesh in most cases are so civilised that the country didn't descend into anarchy. There are few opportunists who definitely took advantage but it is nothing compared to what happened in the UK back in 2011. Remember, despite having no government for a few days, Bangladesh stood still. You should be thankful that Bangladesh didn't turn into Myanmar, Syria. Yes, India is much bigger neighbour, geographically, politically, militarily, economically. But you should take lessons about how civilised Bangladeshi people are compared to your own when you can't even get along with your own religious minority, neighbouring countries and so on.

Every word of what barrister Rashna Imam said is the brutal reality happening inside Bangladesh. Every Bangladeshi except a few blind Awami League beneficiaries will agree with her statement. Most importantly, we Bangladeshis are lucky that Dr. Mohammad Yunus has accepted the offer to head the interim government of Bangladesh. For almost 15 years, the dictatorial Hasina government took away the freedom to speak or write. In her fall, the people of Bangladesh got a taste of the second freedom. She is not only herself or her father hated by the people, she buried the whole Awami League party and fled the country.

In Bangla, there is a profound proverb, "whoever goes to Lanka eventually turns into a Ravan". If the institutional instincts are not systematically reformed, then sooner or later, power will corrupt the next round of guys similarly. Without the institutionalized guardrails, the cycle just repeats. It would be nice to remember that the former round of power-grabbers did not emerge from a vacuum or outer space. Dear people of India and hindu community around the world, I would like to say something as I am from Bangladesh and an observer of this whole event. I will try to give my neutral opinion. Lets try to understand background and context of Bangladesh. Bangladesh is not another radical muslim country. We are lucky that this nation is mixed of 2 different rich cultures which are bengali culture and muslim culture. It is possible that there are radical muslims but the number is very insignificant, not more that 5%. ( Same applies for radical hindus of India). It was true that sheikh hasina was a dictator and the mass protest was the result of 15 years of corruption, mass murder, economical crisis, unemployment, no voting right etc. the total system was corrupted. 95% of people will never let anything happen to our minority groups and stand by their side because we are human over everything. Some vandalism took place in the heat of the moment which were unavoidable after 15 years of suppression. Have faith on us, we will protect our brothers and trun back from this fragile state very soon. Bangladesh just has one justified demand to India - we want equal partnership
