I'm Malaysian and even I got legit offended by the Thai stereotypes, lol.. Thailand is not a poor country, they're probably in the top 5 of the richest country in SEA. If you compared it to western standards, then yeah sure Thailand can be seen as the poorer country. But like most of the countries in SEA, they have a significantly lower cost of living compared to the west. That's why you see a lot of expats from America and Europe living in Thailand. Also, there are no nice beaches in Thailand? I don't know where the producers got this stereotype, but its definitely not on google. Thailand are known for their beautiful beaches, it's literally one of the biggest reason people go there for vacation.. 😅

It's semi-true, it's because Thailand is world renowned for beaches and over the years due to large crowds of tourists, it inevitably becomes much dirtier than before. Take James Bond rock for example, it was so crowded there, but then they shut it down and gave time for nature to restore itself and it's beautiful again. Thailand has beautiful beaches, but only Thais know about the lesser known places while foreigners tend to crowd to places like Pattaya, Phuket etc. which are super crowded (but are still nice tbh).

Stereotypes for Thai people who were asked by Lauren "everyone in Thailand is poor" This question may be for stereotypes for Koreans who think that countries in Southeast Asia are all poor. Here I do not agree with the question. Because Thailand is rich in culture, Southeast Asian people are friendly, not like Koreans who are racist towards our country. Please don't ask questions about poverty to other countries. What is a country that can be called developed like? Is it like Korea that looks gray all concrete buildings. We in Southeast Asia are more beautiful with tropical rain forests and that is oxygen for the world's lungs that Korean people may also enjoy

I guess the stereotype partially would have come from north americans and western europeans too. You always see how they travel to southeast asian countries and keep saying how everything is so cheap and affordable for them. But that's just because they have generally higher earning powers and much stronger home currencies. A person earning 3k USD/ month might be considered just barely making ends meet in the US, but an Indonesian/Thai/Vietnamese earning 1k USD/month can be happily living an upper middle class life, with the salary being well above the nationwide median figure. Greetings from Malaysia, haha. 😅

Yeah it is from WWII (the defeat of 1940). It is a pretty popular trope in anglophone pop culture as France and England (later the UK) have a historical rivalry and WWII is kind of an easy dig for the British. The French and English have been making fun of each other for centuries and the French themselves have historical songs and expressions calling the English exactly what the French stereotype now is. This kind of banter is expected considering all the wars they fought against each other. The only problem is that some people inevitably take all of that seriously. France and the US often have political disagreements (many disputes under de Gaulle or more recently France's refusal to support the Iraq invasion for example), so this kind of "surrender monk***" or "France is weak at war anyway, we don't need them" propaganda come into play. And as the English language and American soft power are so dominant in the world, the stereotype also became a thing even in countries that don't have English as a native language. The stereotype is beyond stupid obiously considering France has one of the most distinguished military records in history. France has lost its fair share of wars of course (including some military blunders like Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam even after WWII). It is to be expected for any country that has been around for over a thousand years. But it has won far more wars than lost. It has consistently been one Europe's most powerful countries for a millenia, and in various eras the most powerful of them all, for a reason. You can't be that in Europe without being really good at war.

It is false to say that France was cowardly during the war of 1940, but yes it is well and truly lost but the French are fought until the end and moreover the French are sacrificed at Dunkirk so that the British army can escape, cowards would never have done that. It is also necessary to underline that it is often the German officers themselves who paid homage to the French soldiers particularly the General Von Küchler during the battle of Dunkirk where the French army fought sometimes at one against twenty! at that time the French army was one of the best in the world in terms of training and equipment BUT we had a staff of fossilized old-timers from 14-18 who were totally outdated by "modern" warfare and a doctrine of using armor that was totally obsolete. France and the French were not cowardly, they are well and truly lost it is a fact, but they are far from being cowardly and But in spite of all that, France did a lot of beautiful losses on the German side were 50 000 dead and 150 000 wounded, the losses of material 1 400 planes and 1 000 tanks and thanks to the sacrifice of the French troops.

Due to their generally higher earning powers and much stronger currencies, whenever they come visiting places like Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia or the Phillipines, they'll be shouting in excitement how everything is so damn cheap and affordable. Guess they are surprised to find out that the locals are making so much lesser money after converting the local salaries to USD. Not all people, especially those from southeast asia, have the 'luxury' of growing up in a conducive environment to practise and improve their English, nor are they brought up in an English speaking environment. They do kinda study it for some years in school, but the education alone will likely not make them fluent. Even people from developed nations like South Korea and Japan generally have confidence and skill issues in speaking English, because they just don't have to use the language throughout their lives except for some written exams in schools. Since all these people have been in South Korea for quite some time, I am sure they have picked up Korean as their second language. It definitely makes more sense for the Viet and Thai girl to converse in Korean since they are comfortable with it, while the two Europeans have absolutely no problem understanding it, rather than them trying so hard just to converse in English, with constant stutters, pauses, and thinking. The show wouldn't have gone smoothly in that way.

@@leontnf6144 The channel is Korean based and the two Asian girls have been living in Korea for quite some time and all 4 of them have a decent level of understanding. I think the 2 girls understand English but it's much more difficult to express intricate thoughts in a language you don't use that often. As a Thai, I can say that we learn English in schools but it's mainly grammar based and never truly applied so we tend to be able to understand English somewhat, but aren't confident enough to express and string together sentences. I think this is the sentiment with many Asian countries like Thailand, Japan, South Korea.

@@alexander9703 Okay, obviously 1 of the main factors was the critical error of believing the Ardennes was impregnable, but this lack of preparation, showed the difference in mindset and preparedness. The Nazis had a plan and conviction behind it, the allies did not, and didn't want anything to do with the war. The size of the Armed Forces is subordinate to conviction, preparedness and technological capability and even if the French had greater numbers, it wasn't by much. The French were completely unprepared, because just like the Brits, their political elites did not want to tell the people that they had to mobilised for war again, having gone through the savagery of World War I.That's the difference between having a functioning democracy and a tyranny - they were less decisive and even when war seemed imminent, they didn't want to take the risk of being replaced at the next election by the people. Neither of the allies had updated technologically to any great degree, in fact, hypothetically, if the USA had bordered Germany in 1939, they would have been occupied even quicker, because they had no Air Force and a tiny army at the eve of the war, but had the luxury of staying out of it geographically. The Nazis mobilised their entire GDP for 8 years so they were on the cutting edge.

These are not THAT bad to be honest and quite tame. It is wrong to assume that all Thai people are poor since they're far from it but there is definitely high levels of inequality and let's face it, the majority of the population does live on lower wages relative to the "developed" part of the world but it also means the cost of living is much lower. This stereotype doesn't bother me much, I know my worth and I know how much I make, I also know that there are many illegal workers in Korea looking to find a better living so I won't be in denial. Stereotypes are generally negative and you just have to educate yourself. I was more expecting a question about transgenders (LGBTQ+ in general) and sex workers for Thailand since these are common stereotypes that I ABSOLUTELY hate and I get really mad for my female friends when every time they mention they're from Thailand, there's likely to be a rude remark about these sort of issues. I truly wish this sort of image will be abolished at some point in the future, but I guess the only way is to develop the country further so that the image can be shifted away. Vietnamese and Thai can be loud since they're both tonal and in general a langauge is loud based on how you speak it, not the language itself. If you shout in French but whisper in Vietnamese, which one is louder lol? Strictly speaking, Thais are relatively quiet in day to day life and I think Vietnamese will be the same but I think Asians are sometimes more direct in general. From personal experience, I felt like my Korean friends are quite loud while my Japanese and Taiwanese friends were more quiet. I don't agree with how the Vietnamese girl just put the blame/stereotype onto Chinese people for being loud ~ she said she hates stereotypes yet she reflected the same thing onto Chinese people so you can see how ironic that is.

@@TomGB-81 France didn't "abandon" its Canadian colonies, it lost the Seven Years War (1756-63) and of course it was followed by a peace treaty in which the kingdom of France had to choose between the Canada (that the French King didn't care that much about) and the French west indies islands that provided the French kings megabucks because of its sugar cane plantations. Despite the fact that the French were totally outnumbered by the British in north America (both in troops (that couldn't be easily increase because of the British naval superiority) and population - there were between 75 k and 90 k French living in New France while there were more than 1 M English inhabitants in the British north American colonies), the French somehow managed to win at the beginning of the war in North America. World War 2? The French lost 92 k soldiers in only 6 weeks. Almost twice what the USA lost in the Vietnam war in 10 yrs. After the German surprise attack through the Ardennes, the Germans encircled a big part of the Anglo-french army near Dunkirk. At this point it was over. It was above all a strategical victory for the Germans. Besides, in 1940, NOONE was able to efficiently counter the new German blitzkrieg, France just happened to have a frontier with Germany and no sea to protect it from the Nazi juggernaut (wink-wink). In June 1940, France (with a much smaller army) was in a 1 VS 2 against Germany and Italy with no chance of winning, and so they asked for an armistice, which allowed it to keep almost half of France. Isn't that weird that peace treaties/armistices when a country admits that it is beaten is the whole history of war of the world but only France shouldn't be allowed to do it? Did you have any problem with Germany signing an armistice in 1918? BTW: France (1940): ~40 M Germany (1940): ~77 M (Population of Germany (69.8 M) + annexed Austria and Sudetenland. That's almost twice the population of France) USA (1941): ~133 M (1945: ~140 M) (the USA had almost twice the population of Germany or Japan (~73 M) and had almost as much population as Germany + Japan combined) In 1940, France was still kind of suffering from PTSD from ww1 in which 1.4 M (1.398 M) French soldiers died (not even counting the way more numerous wounded and mutilated) - that's more than all the US soldiers killed at war in the whole history of the USA (1776-2023) - and I count the US civil war in which both sides were Americans! Let me guess, you're giving us lessons from a country well-protected by the sea and with no direct military threats, a country with a lucky/easy general situation - unlike France? The truth is that France play(ed) the game in "hard" mode, while you guys play(ed) the game in "easy" mode.

Also, there are colloquial terms we used to refer to people from China, such as 'tàu khựa' or 'ba tàu,' which translate to 'dirty arrogance ship' or 'three ships' respectively.

But that stereotype is stupid because french soldiers covered the evacuation of the british soldiers in Dunkirk and more than 60,000 french soldiers were killed as well as 21,000 french civilians. It also should be noted that historians agree on the fact that thousands of french civilians risked their lives to save allied airmen whose plane had been shot, History remembers some of their names: such as Andrée Peel, a frenchwoman who save at least 100 US and british pilots by hiding them from the germans, Marie-Thérèse Auffray, another frenchwomen known for helping allied pilots, Albert Leblastier, a french priest from Normandy who was shot dead by the SS because he cared for and hid US paratroopers… Of course I’m not saying that everybody was perfect (no country only had good people anyway) but it’s not a reason to undermine the bravery of many french soldiers and civilians.

Yeah it is from WWII (the defeat of 1940). It is a pretty popular trope in anglophone pop culture as France and England (later the UK) have a historical rivalry and WWII is kind of an easy dig for the British. The French and English have been talking shit about each other for centuries and the French themselves have historical songs and expressions calling the English cowards. This kind of banter is expected considering all the wars they fought against each other. The only problem is that some dumb people inevitably take all of that seriously. France and the US often have political disagreements (many disputes under de Gaulle or more recently France's refusal to support the Iraq invasion for example), so this kind of "surrender monkeys" or "France is weak at war anyway, we don't need them" propaganda come into play.

France and the French were not cowardly, they are well and truly lost it's a fact, but they are far from being cowardly and But despite all that, France has done quite a lot of beautiful losses on the German side were 50 000 dead and 150 000 wounded, the losses of material 1 400 planes and 1 000 tanks and thanks to the sacrifice of the French troops.

@@maxrolland3148 I'm not going to justify that inconsequently selective (i.e. excluding the Brits) and unfair (i.e. simply not true) stereotype concerning the French since I don't agree with it. I just remember some Polish jokes or mere remarks about the French waving white flags and French tanks equipped with reverse gear only.

How are you going to do a stereotype video and not have the "English people love queuing" or "French people love cheese"? Those are relatively harmless stereotypes that have a small element of truth. I enjoyed the video a lot, so not a serious critique. Thank you!

I mean as a French, for the french one that's just the truth it can't be said to be a stereotype. A whole part of our meals are dedicated to cheese and we consume it in a very different way compared to what I have seen in America for example. Of course you can run into French that have a lactose allergy or just don't like cheese but it's actually pretty uncommon. However the amount and which kind of cheese you eat vary greatly after all we've got more than a 1000 varieties of which a lot are easily available so it's hard not to find one or two that doesn't suit your taste and a lot you don't like.

Any chance you can get someone from Britain that actually likes Britain to represent us. We’re quite well known for been self deprecating but she seems to have a genuine dislike for a lot of British culture that’s kind of grating

Came to say this, cheese eating surrender monkeys is the term normally used. Its only in jest but you would often hear this said if the French get mentioned in England at least.
