Hi Guys, Glad that you are back! Always watch your videos with a lot of interest. Many times I knowtest, after a big diagnosis and teardown of an engine, that the car is, due to take away the subframe, is stuck on the lift. Especially now, when it is getting harder and harder to gain parts and with the chance of parts that are in backorder, that the car stay stuck on the lift for a few days or more. You guys ever thought about buying an forklift so you can take of the car somehow and putt it outside? In that way to make space for an new project so the lift isn’t blocked? How many miles/km on this car? Had to had this repair performed on my 2013 CC 3.6 with only 71k miles ☹️. I got timing correlation codes 😢 and took care of the issue immediately. It was a very expensive repair but I wasn’t going to junk my CC! They performed an amazing job and now the engine works very well! The only problem was that the mechanic failed to put back one of the sway bar bolts and it broke! It didn’t bother me much because it was squeaky and I was planning to replace it anyways, but I didn’t appreciate that the mechanic said he didn’t have to remove the sway bar bolts to change the chain, but in your video it’s very clear you have to do that in order to remove the subframe so you can access the chains from the bottom of the car. Thanks for this video!

well done ,,, big bill heading towards the customer , but the cars still worth decent cash so overall ,, not too bad. Is it not at the point where it would be easier to undo the exhaust and lift the engine out ,,, you worked hard to avoid it ,,, but there does come a point.

There was a serious lack of excitement normally seen in your videos. Watching it, now I know why! I think I’ll stick working on the RS7 rather than working on the R32! Enough money in parts to buy something else. Also a good time to do carbon cleaning. Good thing we love these cars!

When i have take my intake manifold i didnt lose/remove front end, just remove back engine mount that goes to the bridge and loose a bit other 2 engine mounts and tilt engine a bit, that gives me enough space to remove intake manifold.

The VR6 timing chain looks like a bicycle chain, compared to a Honda K20 engine, which has a much stronger multi-plate timing chain.

Thats a 4 cylinder 2 litre.. this is a 6 cylinder 3.2.. so maybe that's why it needs to be different.. also the k20 also needs changing at some point the chain guides also wear and chain will stretch aswell

It has two chains that’s why k20 has one long chain and a inline 6/vr6 is much more naturally balanced than inline 4

@@jamesdean514The VR6 chain is under more load than the K20 chain too. The VR6's bicycle chain has to operate 24 valves, but the Honda's much stronger and more advanced design chain only has to operate 16 vaves haha 😊

Biggest issue with this and it's a VAG issue in general is they put the timing chains in a bullshit spot for any 6 Cylinder or bigger engine and it makes it a big money job, I think if maintained well though the car will do big mileage the issue is many don't.

All of this is why I drive a Fiat Panda, it takes me six hours to replace the timing belt and water pump, and three of those hours is spent searching for a 10mm socket.

I had a civic type r and agree it was a absolutely weapon of a car.. but the 3.2 v6 is just on another level.. instant low down grunt.. feels immensely quick amazing sound and I've owned for 8 years with zero issues.. built quality is excellent.. I would compared it to the type r.. the R32 feels superior in every department

That's not VR6 engine. The VR6 name or title was dropped by VW after the MK3 golf and is only ever relevant to the 12v engines. The MK4 and MK5 engines with 24v were just called V6, as indicated by the badge on the engine cover and some tailgates.

Actually, the VW self-study program (SSP) 360, which covers the 3.2 and 3.6 FSI engines, calls them VR, VR6 and V6. I looked at the 2008 US Passat brochure and they call the six cylinder engine option “3.6 VR6”. But fast forward 2013 and that option is called “V6” in the US CC brochure.

I used a single mass clutch on my Jetta it came in a conversion kit half the price as the VW/ All this work and parts will far exceed the value of car very poor design to have to do all this work to replace the timing chain

Service mode for a VR6 = remove/move the front valance. Otherwise the intake will be a nightmare to remove & re-install. 😂 In my opinion after many years of owning one, for this job you can add a new clutch & dual mass flywheel, oil seals, water pump, pulleys, crack pipe if it wasn't replaced, themostat, thermostat sensor, engine mounts, serpentine belt with adjuster, remove sump clean it, oil sensor, oil cooler, all gaskets there as well, irridium spark plugs, coils, fuel injectors, the PCV system & coolant flush. Lets call it a major service. Good thing is you can do it every 250k km if you don't drive it like you stole it. The engine will be able to do 1 000 000km if you maintain it properly. I have 195 000km on mine and runs like a dream. The electronics are another issue altogether I will not talk about. 😂. A great video to evaluate your chains empirically via VAGCOM is to check chain timing values, live. IanG has an inciteful video regarding this if you own a VR5/6. PS Replacing the timing chain is a serviceable item on the VR5/6 due to stretch & plastic guides. Also the valve timing if you have a later model (2003 & newer) Apart from that, the internals are good.
