I've lost multiple laptop keyboards due to my fingers burning through the keys to the point I eventually got a desktop computer so I could comfortably use a normal keyboard with thicker and better made keycaps. The last computer I used has a mass of holes and cut outs from where my palm would rest too, You could use that thing as low grit sandpaper.

@@caseys2698 I also have to get a new mouse every year as the rubber siding comes off and side buttons start to literally fall off and become unusable every key I use often (gamer) has this shiny, glossy finish on it from my fingers getting rid of the initial textured finish within a month or two of use. Controllers get the same treatment as my keyboard, though they take longer to get slick and shiny cuz I use them less often. My phone case has got some parts of it peeling off or missing too, though idk if that's due to skin acidity or not.

Indeed. Most screen protectors are there to stop small scratches on the screen. Their main job is actually to stop shards of glass from falling out and cutting you when you do break the screen, hence most of them being made of plastic.

yup, had a "durable" offbrand case on my iphone 7, dropped from a kitchen counter on its face and the screen turned off and completely stopped working, phone was a total loss since i couldnt get it repaired. Since then I use name brand "normal" phone cases and havent even cracked a back, or screen of any of my phones. being called "durable" doesnt mean a damn thing if its cheap quality.

@@TheZombo It’s the same principle with body armor. Can’t get rid of the energy, so it combines a rigid plate and anti-penetration materials to take the hit and spread the force over a larger area. Some have ablative ceramic plates that are designed to not only add strength, but also to shatter under enough force (like rifle-bullet force) to disperse the energy. But it can’t ELIMINATE the energy. In the impossible scenario (only impossible because it exists in the same realm of physics as spherical frictionless cows) of a 30mm round hitting someone wearing miraculously strong body armor that SOMEHOW keeps the round from penetrating, that energy is still likely to cause percussive organ failure (one way an explosion can kill you in the absence of penetrating shrapnel) if not cause a traumatic crush injury. Also, body armor primarily makes sure you don’t die, so you can still heal with a minimum of surgical interventions (if any are required at all). A phone doesn’t automatically regenerate, so when it takes a hit, that damage is permanent. Parts have to be replaced.

I was thinking the same thing. My old one's screen bevel is coming off because one of the hinges is dying, I found a random screw caught in the hinge that worked its way outwards from somewhere inside the computer, and the thing still works beautifully, and still boots up in under 10 seconds. And it's something like 8 years old. Been dropped down the stairs at least a half dozen times as well. I got a new one, but my husband is still using the old one, and is happy with it.

10:48 as goofy as it looks, this is the correct way to do it. the port it's attached to is serial, which has been obsolete for a VERY long time, but some old devices require it, and there's no replacement in some cases. Serial is a PAIN to convert to anything. in order from right to left it's: an adapter to convert the port to serial (can't tell what kind of port, probably USB-A), an adapter to convert it to a signal the next device can read, said next device (with the red lights) can be calibrated to convert the signal into something the pc can read, which in turn connects to the device. I'm not sure if that's actually what's going on here, but I've seen similar solutions

It's... not? USB has full serial support, you can buy an USB to Serial adapter for very cheap. There's a reason it's called Universal _Serial_ Bus.

@InferiorSerperior you're not entirely wrong, but USB doesn't have full serial support. It only supports the RS-232 protocol, and the adapter converts it to RS-485. I googled "Mini 2.6/485" and found the exact adapter along with its specs, which confirms that it has one RS-232 port and one RS-485 port.

10:57 actually this is relatively common, the extra plugs allow you to translate a serial connection. Old school serial connections aren't smart enough to really figure out what signal means what between devices, so you use those middle connecters to shift the signal around to the correct channels for the two machines to talk. As to why you'd use that over internet connection... More stable, reliable, and doesn't require additional software.

Every electronic device and technology ever including your tv can have a burn in on the screens if left on for too long, that's why screensavers are a thing which is why you see less burn-ins with recent technology. My guess is the people disabled screensaver and just left it on or the monitor is not in good quality to be durable.

7:15 Actually a pretty cool example of an underflow rollover(maybe that's not quite the right term). The GoPro uses a 64 bit system, so the amount of space of the SD card is stored in 64 bits. Somehow the value likely ended up going below 0, which isn't possible in this type of data, so it rolled over to the maximum value possible in 64 bits.

8:18 It's a portable hard drive enclosure, and the part that broke is a weird, extended version of Micro-USB port and cable that supported USB 3.0, but also a regular Micro-USB cable. Notably, the Galaxy S5 would have this port, and accept both regular Micro-USB(ubiquitous) and the extended version(USB 3.0 data transfer speed with the right cable). Yes, that phone has potentially faster transfer speed out of its charging port than the base iPhone(all generations), and still retains IP68 rating AND a removable back. Man.

I've seen the extra width micro USB on external hard disks as well. It's to support the 5 extra pins that USB 3.0 specifies (in a USB A connector these are a bit more hidden).

10:40 my best guess for how this happened is integer overflow, but that doesnt make sense cause it a bit more than the 16bit integer limit and way less than the 32bit integer limit so it would nead to be somewhere in betwean, but 2^n doesnt ever get you anywhere near 6343502(-6343503) so i have no idea (the closest i found was 24bit(2^24(assigned))) im sure someone will comment somewhere how this happened
