@aceazar28064 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it is. As deep as it can be it’ll never... how do I say this... it’ll never satisfy the innate desire for DEEP intimacy. With platonic love like this it is truly a jewel but you’ll still want to be as intimate with another person and their soul as possible.

I don't think people hold platonic relationships as near and dear as they should. People are so obsessed with finding their romantic soulmate, and feeling as if they're alone when they're single is so sad. I honestly feel like with the right set of friends, I wouldn't ever need a "mate" - obviously, that's my goal -- marriage, kids, all that, but if it doesn't happen, I won't be feel like some failure. All people want are deep, meaningful connections. Who really cares how they get it.
@xy41956 жыл бұрын
That's exactly that! People always run after love and that's just not the right choice. Friendship is way more worthy interesting important and 'curing' than love. The only difference is on the sex side and I really think that the connection made in friendship can last way longer if it's an honest connection. You can talk about your lover to your friends and telling some intimate stuffs but the opposite? Never heard about it and it'd be kind of weird talking(per example) about girls stuffs to a man or men stuffs well to your girlfriend you get it maybe; it's less interesting. Since when love became the purpose of life for people? Since when it's the first thing that people look at better than real friendship or strong family's connection I wonder so...
@zonzz6 жыл бұрын
Very well said. I've been single for 6 years after a long relationship, and it has been so easy because of my friends. I value them more than anything and know I'll have them for life. It's sad how many people even in relationships are so lonely.

Most of the top comments understood what it is and they respect them for it. I think some people are just wishful thinking because let's be honest, married people doesn't even have that strong of a connection with each other. So it's very rare to see that with friends and they didn't even try to date each other. If you get a chance at that kind of friendship? wouldn't you at least try one time? not for perverted reasons or anything like that but just to try your luck at that happy ever after. I know I would because what more could you possibly want if you have that, do you know what I mean? but anyway, I'm just saying.

Regina •F honestly!! Like me and my best friend are exactly like this! "Don't you almost think that [the pain in me] is the best part about me?" I really wanna tell her that's not true, but... I get her, I actually get it. When you've exhausted yourself fighting against something that hurts you (wether it's your family, yourself, whatever) and all you have left is the humor you use to get over it, you get lost in this weird loop where you think you are your pain, and that pain is so you and your charm and what makes you who you are, that you almost feel you would be no one and probably not even a little bit interesting or funny or charming without that pain. This is a bit depressing (sorry to whoever is reading!), but I do think a lot about it and never really thought somebody could think this as well. Loved the conversation and these two. Thank you!

I had a friend just like this. Literally just like this. I “dumped” her during a rough transitional period of my life. 6 years later I am trying to make amends, and she is open to letting me do that. But every time it hurts. Every time I see her it’s a reminder of all the times I haven’t. The way she speaks to me, like a new coworker or college acquaintance, literally breaks my heart. She is trying to let me in but I caused her so much hurt that I’m not sure she can. And I’m not sure I blame her.
@dlizzy38356 жыл бұрын
Emily Clark I'm actually the dumpee in a situation that sounds very similar. Can you elaborate regarding your motivations? I'm desperately trying to heal.
@emilymalene41466 жыл бұрын
D Lizzy I’m so sorry 😞 For me it was quite complex. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about it in the years since it happened. She is from a truly perfect family, lots of extended family, tight knit immediate family. Two perfect parents who love her and her sister as much as they love each other. They had money for college and could afford to pass them each a car when they turned 16. Really, truly wonderful. They extended that love to me, as well, in many ways. My family is very small and very broken. I’ve never been too bothered by that, but it has always been a basis for who I am. Parents divorced when I was 3 and very rarely spoke. My dad only had the worst things to say about my mom. My brother and I hated each other and my dad was abusive towards him. It was pretty rough, really. My dad put on a good front, but he was, in my mind, a monster. I was also in the beginning stages of what would become a very long distance relationship with my now husband of 5 years. In my mind, she didn’t understand any of it. So, when I left my dads house at 17 and moved in with my (somewhat estranged) grandparents to finish high school, our problems began. Looking back I think it’s not that she didn’t try, it’s that she didn’t know *how* to help me. Neither did I. It was a tough time in my life. On top of that I was beginning to suspect that I would be moving abroad to be with my boyfriend (now husband - and I did move to England in 2014.) My inability to process my own life paired with my inability to see her love and care for me caused me to see the only solution as being to push her away. So I did. Hard. I was vicious. No apologies will ever be enough. But I don’t front all the blame. It was a lot for an 18 year old to handle with very little help. I did the best I could. I parted with MANY relationships during that time including my two step sisters who I haven’t seen since. One hates me for leaving and I regret that I couldn’t explain it to her better. It just is what it is. It hurts me to relive it but it’s worth it to be a part of her life again. I hope your friend can reach a point of understanding within his/herself and I hope when they do you are able to hear them. We have one life with these people, you know?
@dlizzy38356 жыл бұрын
Wow, you don't know how much I admire and appreciate your honesty! I can see that you're a beautiful person. ☺ My situation was a bit reversed. I don't want to bore you with my life story... Let's just say, we're both in the latter part of our twenties and she should have handled things better (more compassionately). I don't think she'll ever feel as remorseful as you do. I don't think she has the emotional capacity. But I am touched by your sincere regret and efforts to make amends with your friend and I hope she's able to forgive you and you're able to develop an even stronger bond. You were babies after all and relationships can be so hard to navigate! Thank you so much for the insight.

My best friend was my roommate last semester and I had to take a leave for personal reasons, and our distance has made me realize how dependent I've become and how difficult it is to be without her. But, based on our conversations and the fact that I'm often the one speaking and am rarely answered, it's clear that she isn't nearly as dependent or lonely as I am now that we're apart. Both are co-dependent , connected and in love and love each other but on different levels (platonic, and has gone beyond this, it is controlled however, for good reasons). The girl with the emerald eyes is exotic and beautiful even with that scar. She is all the way in with the other (if the relationship changes to a romantic one). The other is there but hesitant because there is a part of her being withheld due to her religious upbringing. Would be a great relationship if they were a couple. They are intensely open, honest, supportive and are basically a good match.

Some so called socities have come a far way.

I think maybe I've exaggerated because my best friend is gay and he is out and we're living in middle east,, but still there's a lot of Muslims in media who's received death threats after coming out to a wide range.. it's not that easy for us

The love in the Muslim girl's eyes.. she might not say it often, but you can TELL that she really does value her best friend

Friendship has to be the highest pinnacle of human evolution, as it takes conscious effort and at its purest is blind to physical or material incompatibilities.

What a beautiful foundation of a friendship. You converse about one another to each other. As opposed to some friendships whose premise is based on talking about everyone else.

The girl on the right makes me think of myself in how I love people/loved my ex. It's actually REALLY encouraging bc I never really have seen anybody describe their love/blessing/etc for somebody like how she does which is like how I do. There ARE people who are great love-rs out there!

This is the true definition of what soul-mates without a romantic connection looks like. We all have more than one soul-mate, and these two are soul-mates. They have a beautiful, friendly, pure love. So beautiful.

People flip out on them because nowadays frienships are superficially based on alcohol, partying and drama. But what these two have is what you call a truly real one, that's why everyone thinks that they're in love. They're not in love, its uniquely a true friendship amongst a sea of society's fakeness.

This video just made me realise how much we take for granted. Especially in our friendships. Whether they're an amazing friend and we don't tell them enough, or they're a shit friend that needs to leave our lives, we should talk about it more.

C. Morgan Free yeah but the fact that they are not having sex does not mean there is no romantic feelings
@c.morganfree19706 жыл бұрын
Misslaeti Hmm...now that makes this whole situation a bit more complicated. Maybe there's two types of chemistry? One for intimate friendship and another for intimate relationship.
@pumkins_world92776 жыл бұрын
C. Morgan Free i don't want to make generalizations but to me men are more sex-oriented, and women are more emotion-driven. For instance, men watching porn while women love to watch romantic movies. Again, there are exceptions. So to me, two women (in my opinion, only Kate) treating the other like a relationship partner, without actually having sex is totally plausible. Especially if Nadine made it clear to Kate that she is straight.

they are both so beautiful in so many ways. i am happy that they have each other’s friendship, you can definitely tell they share something special. it was so nice seeing them be affectionate and loving, i think friendships should be this deeply connected and supporting. it’s always easy to assume when people are like this that it has to be romantic but i’m glad they’re just friends! it shows how much relationships can mean to us in all forms.

I see me and my best friend in their relationship. People always comment on us, 'how can we be friends, how we did work it out, what do we see in each other'. It made us stronger. At the moment, we are living in two very different countries and I miss her so much, yet when we talk nothing comes between us. Dear Simon, you are a beautiful soul world has given me as a blessing, I want best things to happen to you as you deserve it to happen. I love you, x

Me and my best friend are soulmates have been this way for 11 years now. She cooks for me buys me gifts, heals my wounds. I listen to every problem and share such a deep love and respect for each other. I am so blessed to have met her in high school, she is my rock and we are so apologetically ourselves with one another. She never sugar coats shit and is so headstrong but I wouldn't ask anyone else for help or advice, god I love and appreciate her soul so much.
