just a little FYI , sensory deprivation for 2 hours is fine but longer than that say a day or a much longer period of time may cause panic attacks, mental breakdowns and it's actually a form of torture. Edit: i should mention I mean much longer than that. Like, for some it could be a few hours but others would break after days. Also once again, torture is against your will. I'm not talking about doing with willingly. I mean having people kidnapped you and force you or getting trapped and unable to get out.

+Martina Majcen when you have no sense, your body enters this lucid state, where you are sleeping but know you are awake. That can lead to astral projection, like how've I done many times before, but that could lead to endless episodes of sleep paralysis. Also since you have no senses in the float tank, it can cause you to only rely on your mind, which can lead even the strongest man to become mad.

The sensory deprivation experienced in a float tank IS in fact the same as what is used as torture -- with one experience altering difference, control. You control if you float naked or not, with light or not, how long, etc. You go into the room with the float tank & shower, lock the door and then it's all about what you need. I can't recommend it highly enough to everyone but especially those with mental health issues, chronic pain, a brain that never shuts up and the like.

Being one whom has several mental illness including PTSD, watching this video seemed absolutely daunting, especially considering one of my favourite pastimes is studying the macabre & occult which includes forms of torture which sensory deprivation falls under. The thought of the panic attack that would occur from my anxiety just made me internally checked off this as a form of therapy, but after much consideration I found this to be something I actually want to give a try. I find meditation & contemplation extremely serene (that is without the intrusive thoughts) - there are moments when my paranoia get's so bad my skin feels like it is literally screaming because I want to make it stop. Everything: the sounds, the visuals. The concept of just floating & feeling so at peace with the universe, feeling everything & something seems so tranquil. Thank you, Buzzfeed, for giving me access to knowledge of a possible new coping mechanism. I will be discussing this with my psychiatrist & therapist on how to go about this

I think it's easier to ease into a float pod because you can choose when to turn off the lights or choose when to close the door. Never felt so relaxed and anxiety free in my life. I still had a little jumps and nervous spasms but as soon as I have them, I went back into zen pretty quickly. The more you do it the more your body will get more comfortable with the environment.

I never understood why people are so afraid of silence and being alone with their own thoughts. Some people just want to believe they have "dark" thoughts or something is wrong with them. Don't be dramatic just roll with it. If we have to live around your thoughts, you should be ok with living them.

I love it,the first time I went in with a clear head.I went into a total dream state.I don’t make a lot of money.I paid $100.00 for an hour.It was well worth the money and if I could afford it I’d definitely would do it again & again

I used to have a job where I would work 12 hour days and I had to wear ear plugs and what not. The labor wasn't intensive and almost all of the sound was monotonous and continuous so sensory adaptation would kick in along with the ear plugs. I got a LOT of time to spend with my thoughts. Since my youth I've dealt with many emotional issues, but being able to spend that much time with myself really let me open up, if only to myself. There were days I almost broke down while coming to an understanding of who and why I am, but eventually I was able to find a friend in myself and at least start on the path to finally loving myself. The road is long and I have to pave it foot by foot, but I feel that pain and progress is better than living in a rut.

I did this in Italy when stoned out of my mind. I made up my own SDT. I went into a room that i never go in. Floated on a mattress, put earplugs in, put pillows all around me and bottles against the door (umm i was stoned and didnt want anyone coming in the door).. I did this a few times.. I fell into a trance maybe 8 our of 10 times... Literally the best experience of my life. I was semi conscious and could kinda control my dreams. Its like being on acid but not as intense. More of a controlled trip. I loved it and want to do it again

Crash made the lead up to this so much weirder than it had to be. We have one of these at the day spa I work at, only mostly we have some little twinkly lights in the ceiling that can stay on for people who aren't so keen on the whole 'total darkness' thing.

literally the purest thing i have ever experienced in my life. I wish i could stay in that world forever. Like a drug but with no side effects. Its different dimensions. All you need to do is close your eyes.. in a couple of minutes you will start trippin. You go where no movie or special effects could take you.. Its like your own Wonderland. .. Just chill close your eyes.. focus on breathing. listen to yourself breathing. Its insane.. so beautiful

They made this seem so creepy! If you go with it it’s so relaxing and the one I go to you have the option to have light on but you can turn it off if you wish. You also can have music or meditation tracks and you can have the lid open if your claustrophobic. So much nicer than the beginning of this video makes it seem!
