just a little FYI , sensory deprivation for 2 hours is fine but longer than that say a day or a much longer period of time may cause panic attacks, mental breakdowns and it's actually a form of torture. Edit: i should mention I mean much longer than that. Like, for some it could be a few hours but others would break after days. Also once again, torture is against your will. I'm not talking about doing with willingly. I mean having people kidnapped you and force you or getting trapped and unable to get out.
@kendalleitch2622

+Martina Majcen when you have no sense, your body enters this lucid state, where you are sleeping but know you are awake. That can lead to astral projection, like how've I done many times before, but that could lead to endless episodes of sleep paralysis. Also since you have no senses in the float tank, it can cause you to only rely on your mind, which can lead even the strongest man to become mad.
@GothBiDemiGirl

The sensory deprivation experienced in a float tank IS in fact the same as what is used as torture -- with one experience altering difference, control. You control if you float naked or not, with light or not, how long, etc. You go into the room with the float tank & shower, lock the door and then it's all about what you need. I can't recommend it highly enough to everyone but especially those with mental health issues, chronic pain, a brain that never shuts up and the like.

@@queendelegacy09 I did last weekend. I played around for a bit, pushing myself off the walls and pretending I was a mermaid. Hard to describe the feeling, you feel very heavy and very light at the same time, if that makes sense? But when I finally laid still and did some deep breaths and relaxation exercises, I fell asleep. I woke up when the lights came back on. No idea how long I was asleep for, like they said in the video, I had no concept of time. I will 100% be doing it again.

Being one whom has several mental illness including PTSD, watching this video seemed absolutely daunting, especially considering one of my favourite pastimes is studying the macabre & occult which includes forms of torture which sensory deprivation falls under. The thought of the panic attack that would occur from my anxiety just made me internally checked off this as a form of therapy, but after much consideration I found this to be something I actually want to give a try. I find meditation & contemplation extremely serene (that is without the intrusive thoughts) - there are moments when my paranoia get's so bad my skin feels like it is literally screaming because I want to make it stop. Everything: the sounds, the visuals. The concept of just floating & feeling so at peace with the universe, feeling everything & something seems so tranquil. Thank you, Buzzfeed, for giving me access to knowledge of a possible new coping mechanism. I will be discussing this with my psychiatrist & therapist on how to go about this

I would totally do this. It sounds so relaxing. I never get to be in a room dark enough to sleep. My next door neighbor likes to keep his light on all night, enough to where I can see my hands in front of me. The dark is relaxing. The idea of floating amazes me, and to get lost in yourself.

I do this all the time. It is the most relaxing thing you could possibly do. Nothing in the world like . You feel like you are floating in space because the water temp is pretty close to your body temp, so you feel nothing is touching you. I do recommend the spa music or you end up hearing your heartbeat and thinking about random things the entire time.

Man I LOVE Float Lab! I wish I could own one lol. Every year I try to go. Crash is totally chill and man I'm just in love with sensory deprivation chambers. Only 2 hours go by so quickly, I wish I could do 3 hours... still it's totally worth it if you're stressed out or so uptight. Perfect way to try something new.

I have anxiety and I previously suffered from panic disorder and I got into a float pod. I think it's easier to ease into a float pod because you can choose when to turn off the lights or choose when to close the door. Never felt so relaxed and anxiety free in my life. I still had a little jumps and nervous spasms but as soon as I have them, I went back into zen pretty quickly. The more you do it the more your body will get more comfortable with the environment.

Certain individuals do this regularly, helps with all of the mental issues listed early on in the video. The reason they type that, is to express how new these individuals are to the experience, not to show that everyone does it all the time.

This reminds me of a video I saw. There is a room people go to similar to this. The only thing you can hear is your breathing and your heart beating but people go in as a challenge to themselves since most people can't be in there for more than a couple hours without losing their sanity, rather than a therapy. But these tanks look like they could be helpful also so I still want to try one, just for the experience

When i did float therapy is stayed by the top of the tank. the lid on my pod had stars in it so I wasn't completely deprived. I was also hungover that day and had a bad headache. Next time i want to really immerse myself, no lights, no hangover. Just me and my thoughts, i thought about my lover a lot and just went through flashback and it made me feel safe. Just relax.
