I'm not sure where you're from, but it's kind of agreed upon and laughed about in a lot of the US that if your family history is European and you know nothing about it, you're "just white". It's turned into somewhat of a meme for someone to "break down their Caucasianess" into different countries/areas now... I think it has to do with all the legal bills they racked up after trying to fight the federal government over their health reports. Maybe a bit of both. I tested myself, my husband, my daughter, a cousin, and my husband's uncle when it was $99. I've also tested at Ancestry ($99) and FamilyTreeDNA ($99/transfer $39).

Because there are 25 million unmixed Native American Mexicans who don't fall into your MIXED category. There are hundreds of thousands of whites, both recently arrived and native to Mexico, who intermarried with unmixed whites in Mexico who don't fall into your idea. And there are millions of unmixed Mexican blacks in isolated areas who never mixed with anyone who are Latinos who don't fall into your mixed category. There are even Asians Mexicans who have married other Asians in Mexico and who do not fit into your mixed category. That's why.

If your genes show you have European, were Spain is plus the Native American, then that's the part that shows if a person is Mexican or from any other Latin American country 😉. Of course the DNA results won't say "Mexican" as that dude expected. Mexican is just a nationality and he doesn't even have that nationality. He wasn't born in Mexico, his father did, for what I understood.

I really like watching these kinds of videos. I think it’s really interesting to talk about ancestry and learn about other people’s ancestry and lineage. I haven’t taken any dna tests, but family history is a big thing in my church and I know that my mothers side is mostly Irish with some English and a bit of German, has been in America since the revolutionary war, and has a bit of British nobility. My fathers side is completely Irish, with an Irish king in there. So just like Shane, I’m very white.

I recently took the ancestry DNA test and found out that we Poles are decended from the Sarmatian knights and the Amazon women. We were the very first horse people and the Roman's got tired of us raiding them and forced us to be their calvary. They took the sons very young to serve the Roman's army and the daughters were forced to be the warriors and defenders of the tribe. The Roman's have busts of the Sarmatian faces and my family looks like these guys 5000 years ago. So yes I was shocked about my experience until I seen the bust. My last in Poland Brefka means the eyebrow bridge of the Sarmatian. Now that's cool to know the meaning of my last name.

It's disappointing because they knew about it already so there was nothing life-affecting to the experience, no surprise. Everyone knows there is culture in Europe and white people can be awesome. Centuries of European economic domination and colonialism have taught the world to repeat it ad nauseam to satisfy the victors. It's nice that a site like Buzzfeed can adress the issues of other people and ethnicities and celebrate diversity, and they don't have a duty to celebrate whiteness in the same time, because everyone else is already doing that, so we don't need them to help.

Morninngg Keenan You are pretending as if a higher populated economically developed country somehow had less funds available for education and infrastructure than a country such as say Germany or Sweden. +Sapa Inti So around 1520 the Spanish Europeans colonized Mexico and South America where the Native American people lived. They mixed with them and taught them Spanish and created "mestizo" people. Which means mixed. So basically we are a mixture of both races which is why some people look dark skin and others really light with colored eyes brown/blonde hair. Other countries settled in Mexico too. France and Germany and you can look into that but this is the short version lol.

Just because youre 100% from one country doesnt mean your ancestors were all from the same country/area. My parents are both from Iran, but my mom's family is from northern Iran where there were a lot of Kurdish and Turkish populations. Not to mention the Greeks, and then the mongols invaded and ruled Iran for a while hundreds of years ago. And my dad's family is from deeply southern Iran, where there was a lot of Arab people and tiny pockets of people whose ancestors were African. Most of the time other Iranians cant tell Im Iranian, so it would be interesting to see the percents of which ethnicity my genetics show.
