In the late summer of 2022, I lived off the grid for 9 weeks exploring and fly fishing some of the west's most remote streams. I recorded every day and started sharing my 9-week truck bed camping road trip after I returned home in mid-October. In part 25 of the truck bed camping road trip, I'm on another amazing stream in Idaho which has a busy road that parallels it, but the fishing was non-stop. I'm still amazed at the incredibly scenic and fishy streams I've seen during my road trip. This one did not disappoint!
I started my 9 week road trip on July 31, 2022, and spent roughly 3 weeks in WY, ID and MT. Check out all the videos from this trip in the playlist linked below:

That’s a beautiful spot. I love fishing that type of water. One thing I find a little disappointing about these KZbin videos in general is the constant netting and handling of fish. Depending on where I’m standing, I almost never net small to medium sized trout. I just guide them to the shallow water and tweak out the barbless fly. I suppose it’s better footage to show the netting and show the fish a little better. For those of us like me that don’t want to record our fishing, give the netless approach a little love!!

Thanks for gettin' me in the mood Drew! Just love fishing the AuSable in Michigan! Length of pole depends on the size of the river and how many trees there are to work around. Use ultralight graphite "Fishin' Sticks" myself with either 2 or 4lb test. Being a spinner guy, use Panther Martin's, either 1/16 or 1/8 Oz, depending on conditions. Haven't gotten into taking videos yet, but think you're gettin' me into trouble AGAIN!!!!

Drew, my wife and I are going to do a trip in June from North Texas stopping in Northern NM and then to SW Colorado. Camping and flyfishing. Any areas that you recommend? Not looking for specific streams, just areas. Should I get a Forest Service map? Is that the best way. This is our first time doing this

Hey just curious man, because you're honestly living my dream, how do you afford to do these long remote tours of fishing? I mean, you got to have an income to afford the truck, food, etc. And im not sure what job allows you to be gone for so long . Sorry for the personal question, but I cant help but ask.

Drew, great videos. I'm headed to Wyoming this summer to disperse camp and fly fish. Once you are in a creek, how do you "navigate" back to your campsite? Do you go back to the point where you entered the creek? If so, do you mark it with a ribbon or GPS for example? I'm stunned by the awesome places you find by bushwhacking but am curious about how you get back to camp.

OnX Hunt is a great app that's very popular. You can have it GPS track everywhere you go, and just backtrack. I also just pin my camping spot or truck on the map, and then just cut through the woods on the way back. You can also camp on the creek, and then walk down the stream a couple miles and fish your way back to camp. For reference, I live 45 minutes from the WY border in ID, and do this pretty frequently. All of this works!

What creek? I watch these videos and think I would like to go there but we are never told where Drew is. From what I see he never says where he is. He finds places that I would think he would share with his fans so we could enjoy fishing the same places but he is very tight lipped about his location. That has caused me to stop watching and it’s only by accident that I watched this video. Don’t show us if you can’t tell us!!!!

This comment is posted on behalf of fish everywhere: Imagine the pain and terror a fish experiences when a needle-sharp point of steel rips into its flesh; then the agonizing struggle for its life as it frantically swims to get free. Next, imagine a fisherman eating a juicy cheeseburger when suddenly a treble hook (hidden in the burger) rips into his cheek and he's yanked out of his chair. Then, he's lifted to the ceiling with his entire body weight supported by the hook in his jaw. Now, that's a video worth watching!

Handling a fish wipes the protective slime coat off the skin which leaves the fish vulnerable to bacterial infection and death. The safe and correct way is to either leave the fish in the water and keep the line tight while grabbing the hook with a pair of pliers and reverse the hook out, or if you do lift it out of the water do it by grabbing the line and lifting the fish straight up and use a hook remover or a pair of pliers to release the fish. The key to the fish's survival is don't touch it.
