As an American, the bell thing is an jerk move here. Also it defeats the purpose of tipping. My mother taught me the system. Their tip relies on how full her glass is. If she never reaches the bottom, it's fifteen percent. If she has to wait for a new soda it's ten. If she has to wait more than twenty minutes it's five. I only ever saw her give twenty once and it's because the waitress brought her a new glass when her other glass was only a quarter empty. Waiting for food is understandable especially if they are busy. Drinks aren't. She also sneaks the waitresses tips when we are with my grandparents because they refuse to tip always, no matter how good the service is.

I get it in areas where you have snow etc that it is not an option but otherwise why not line dry. Nothing smells as good as sheets straight off the line on a freshly made bed
@mistinghaze2 жыл бұрын
@@wendyhood1962 True, maybe just in my case the area where we live in there is literally no place to hang clothes outside, especially since we don’t live in a house so we don’t own anything. Even if we found an area to hang clothes the amount of pollen, insects, animals, neighbors, maintenance, rapid weather changes, etc there is, it would be almost impossible for something not to happen to our clothes to the point where it would be ruined.
@benwagner50892 жыл бұрын
@@mistinghaze Especially the weather changes. In the Seattle area, we'd only be able to hang dry about six months out of the year, and we'd have to keep an eye out for rain all the time. I heard a story about some immigrants who moved to the Chicago area who tried to hang dry in their basement during the winter, and the next day the clothes were still not dry. Makes me wonder how people did it before electricity. Just hang it in front of the cooking fire I guess?

Absolutely NO ONE in restaraunts do this in America. If you want the waiter, you wait until the come back, or you can call out to them if they are near you. But, some restaraunt do have this system where you press a button on the table and the waiter or waitress knows that you need them, so sometimes it is different.

American here. I’ve only ever seen people ring bells to get a waiter’s attention on TV and even then, it was a rich, upper class person at a fancy restaurant or private event, not some random guy at a diner

I live in America, I was born here and I have NEVER seen anyone ring a bell for service! It's rude and embarrassing! If I ever see ANYONE doing this I would tell them off myself! Idc if they are a stranger either!

4:00 this reminds me of when I was in 4th grade and I snapped my fingers to get her attention (because my dad always did that to me so I thought it was okay) The teacher was obviously furious and told me to not snap for her like a dog and to not interrupt her and then said that the world doesn’t revolve around me. Honestly I started crying because I didn’t even know it was wrong but I did learn my lesson. Hopefully this dude also finds his mrs Sara to educate him too 🫠💀

As a woman who was exceptionally thin up past my 40s through a health problem, you get used to other women being very rude. You can walk in somewhere and just get a load of spiteful remarks they seem to think are funny. Can you imagine doing this to a large lady ? Treatment for my condition made me actually double I weight by my 50s and women are nice to me now. They say hello and never ever comment on or laugh about my weight. I don't think women realise how unkind they are. If someone slim comes into view, ladies, don't imagine they are slim just to make you feel embarrassed about your weight, so don't be mean and draw attention to theirs. Thank you.

those are "poor people habits"? they're literally just efficient, growing a garden from scraps of food is absolutely genius, and drying your clothes outside on a hot sunny day saves you so much time, not to mention good for the planet, and it's disgusting to judge someone based on their financial and social status

With the first story, I am from American and I can confirm that ringing a bell to get a waiters attention is NOT ACCEPTABLE here. I don’t even know any places where that would be acceptable. I have literally never seen anyone do that in America. Also, just because we are a “free country” doesn’t mean you can do rude or cruel things without judgment or criticism. You can be rude but don’t expect everyone to be okay with it. And honestly that should apply to the 2nd story too. That girl can skinny shame all she wants but don’t expect everyone to be okay with that. If you are mean to someone that person has the right to be mean back (or in this case the boyfriend/narrator telling his sister off) because YOU started it. Also with story number 3, is letting your clothes dry in the sun normal anywhere else? Because like I said, I’m in America and I don’t do this and I haven’t seen anyone do this. So that isn’t a normal thing here (at least not that i’m aware of.) Is drying your clothes in the sun normal everywhere else?

I think the dryer vs hanging stuff out thing was the view of either hanging everything out with no dryer or only using the dryer. At my house we have both an outside clothes line, a foldable clothes line and a dryer. We hang blankets and bed stuff outside, pants/shirts/sports stuff and hand towels inside and put singlets/undies and socks in the dryer

As an American and a former server, I would have ignored him and get the other servers to do so as well, inform the manager to get rid of him for ringing that bell or I would have snuck up and took the bell from him and tossed it out. That is not only completely unacceptable in any American restaurant, but it is so rude that the other patrons may have gotten involved to tell off that a-hole for spoiling their meals as well.
@VLP_72 жыл бұрын
as an American, I would like to say that it is also unacceptable to ring bells in restaurants here too. anyone doing that would get dirty looks and would likely be asked to leave. it’s not ok here either (unless bells are provided in the establishment specifically for this reason) and that boyfriend is a dramatic liar.

I've only seen bells when the place can get really busy, even then you only ring the bell a couple times when the waiter is in hearing range. This is extremely inappropriate and rude and I cannot begin to explain how frustrating it can get when a bell is ringing constantly like that.

The dude with the bell needs to think about the fact that if bells were necessary, they would have been provided by the restaurant/diner themselves. I can't imagine being so entitled that you think you can ring a bell or snap your fingers at a waiter so they get to you faster. That's like trying to get a dog's attention so they come to you.

I’m a U.S citizen and I promise that is not a thing here. I have never seen or heard of anyone doing that here and the only time someone does ring a bell is usually at gas stations or fast food places that leave one out to alert the employees there is a customer who came in. Even then it’s known to be disrespectful if someone is up there ringing the bell constantly. However we do have many people who are rude and/or believe they’re entitled to have their way at all times. I say that confidently because I’ve experienced it too many times to count both while working customer service jobs and as an average person just being around.
