Yes but if the flooring material is cheap and or bad quality, even if the install is perfect, it can happen
@brucecoleman74122 жыл бұрын
Besides possible shoddy workmanship. There is a HUGE difference in quality of laminate products. The cheapie cheap stuff will warp, shrink, and expand at random creating exactly this situation. If something gets spilled on it, the liquid will leak through the joints and soak into the backing wood. It becomes trapped and causes the planks to warp. It’s not surprising that the one company didn’t want any part of that old flooring. The plaintiff furnished the flooring, not the installer. I guarantee you that she bought the cheapie cheap.

I had a laminated floor installed 10 years ago by a professional contractor and the edge of the panels started to chip off two months later. As a person that works in commercial build-outs, I knew it wasn't the installation of the product, it was the product. I contacted the dealer/manufacturer of the flooring and I was told it wasn't covered because it was not installed by a certified installer of that product. I tried my best to make it clear it was not the installation it was flooring peeling at the edges. The contractor that did the installation offered to replace the product which we picked out and replace it with a better flooring at their cost. My wife and I said no! If we can take you up on the removal and installation of the product and we will buy the flooring. They did and after a few months of dealing with the flooring seller, they agreed to refund our money.

I noted that she kept saying wood, when in fact, it is a wood laminate product. Additionally, no one addressed the issue of how the floor was cared for. From my experience, many people think they can mop these floors exactly the same as linoleum or tile, Which is untrue. You cannot douse these floors with excessive amounts of water as this will cause swelling and possible separation of the flooring. These floors need regular vacuuming or sweeping to remove dry dirt and a medium damp mop. On the issue of the installation, the underlayment and subfloor could have been uneven to begin with. I have personally had laminate flooring and have had no issues. However, others in my building who have laminate flooring and complain of buckling and flooring that is coming up have told me they mop their floors as if they were linoleum or tile, Which usually entails sopping the floor with water and then removing most of it. Overtime, this practice can cause a buildup of moisture under the flooring material and cause buckling. As a disclaimer, I am not a contractor, and this is only my experience and understanding of these floorings.

There were gaps. And he said he would caulk the gaps. Lol. He did do some work. So i told him to give me half my money back and get out of my house. I then updated my whole home myself.

I done all phases of construction for over 18 years..I've done 🤔 200 or so flooring jobs.. Rather it's vinyl, laminate, wood or ceramic.. I always write a contract with the exact scope of work, how long it will take, how much it will cost, how long of a warranty of product by manufacturer (Typically it's 10-30 years) and my guarantee of workmanship is a minimum of 2 years on flooring depending on type of flooring could be up to 5 years.. I've had to redo 3 out of 200 in the last 18 years.. This guy obviously didn't know what he was doing.. That's why you don't just hire a friend that says ya I can do a floor for you..Get someone who is reputable, has references, & can show you examples of their workmanship.. MAKE SURE YOU GET EVERYTHING IN A WRITTEN CONTRACT 🎯

installing floating flooring is really easy and no, you dont have to remove the base boards unless you want to i did my 2 bedrooms myself and just put beading around the edges, looks fine and reduces the job of many hours hard work if this floor is 'lifting' then the expansion gap is too small 12mm or 1/2 an inch is plenty, maybe he used poor underlay? or none??
