The People's Court

The plaintiff says the defendant is her boyfriend’s buddy, who was in jail and asked her to cash his stimulus check. She said she would do it for $250, but then he claimed it was cashed illegally. She’s suing for the money the back deducted from her account. The defendant says the plaintiff stole his check and he’s countersuing her.

Why didn't the defendant ask around the prison to see how other inmates were accessing their stimulus? My husband is now the mailman at the Correctional Centre (Its for those serving 2 years less a day) here in our province where we live in Canada, and he has been assisting inmates in accessing settlement monies they may have coming from various entities. Families can contact him to devise a way for the money to go into accounts, signatures to be provided etc. Having said that, girl/plaintiff had quite the money making scheme going on for herself!! Unfortunately the doctrine of 'Clean Hands' doesn't apply here, given she wasn't doing anything illegal, guess thats the free enterprise system for you!

I know there is evil in jails and prisons, but regardless of the reason for being there, inmates are the most disenfranchised and marginalized population in our society. Even the judge appears to be pissed that people in these institutions get any money. I guess she forgot that it was STIMULOUS money. Everybody got that money and the prison business is huge.

What happened to clean hands when you come into court? This was clearly a scam and it backfired.

WHAT? What part of coming to court with clean hands did I miss, and why the hell did she get her exorbitant fee of $200 when everything she was doing was illegal. She shouldn't have got anything. And how on earth does someone that is incarcerated get a stimulus check when tax payers are already paying for their stay in prison?...
