It is simply amazing to me that seemingly intelligent people STILL do not bother drafting contracts with a specific SOW for any kind of home improvement work. You CANNOT have verbal contracts with contractors. That will land you in litigation every time.
@Fribee832 жыл бұрын
Seriously. Even when I do work with friends, I draft up a basic "For this amount, this will happen" with details. Takes 30 seconds. It's not just for security but to have an itemized scope of work to refer to. I got hired to do graphical work for a friend and we discussed a lot of "I'd like this, and this, maybe this" that would've been hard to keep track of by memory. The contract let me go through to know "They only want these four things done. The fifth might be in the future but that's not part of this gig".
@rosej50292 жыл бұрын
Add to your comment that even if a person is not knowledgeable about working w/contractors, these court shows (Judge Judy, People's Court, Judge Mathis, etc.)have been on television for an average of THIRTY YEARS to show the viewer at minimum to have some semblance of a business agreement in writing and put the actual cost of the work and get a receipt that service was paid for. Or if the person doesn't watch court tv, go to KZbin to learn what to do.

this is why i accept CASH ONLY for my labor . if people can give themselves a discount after u leave their house then half of them will do it and justify it in their head . the worst part of being self employed are the people who actually hire u , people will rip u off if u make it easy for them to do so . CASH ONLY !

you can tell the couple was being cheap thinking they could reuse the vinyl walls those vinyle walls were on top of old tile walls helll naw that job to demo nd re tile just on labor would be at least 1k here in tx on just the walls plumbing is always separate

@whitechris7202 жыл бұрын
This guy should have never accepted this job. They didn't want it done right/ pay for it to get done right. They wanted a bandaid to solve all their problems. Also, they had a vinyl wall over a tile wall over drywall to begin with. No way that was coming down and going back on without issues.
@somebodywatchin2 жыл бұрын
They were unrealistic expecting him to totally replace the wall no matter what.

Why didn't they hire Jose to do the bathroom, then he could sub-contract the plaintiff to do the plumbing. A few years ago we remodelled 2 bathrooms and a kitchen, we employed 1 guy to do it all. He organised the plumber, electrician, glazier, stone mason to come out as needed and do the jobs he isn't licenced to do.

I learned years ago specific contracts are important. When working with home/ building owners that request the least expensive option or a temp repair they will still expect a high end result when it's done, it is best to just bow out of those jobs. Reputations are built on providing a consistent good standard of work don't take on clients that can jeopardize that.
