The People's Court

Күн бұрын

The plaintiff and defendant live in the same apartment complex. She says the defendant’s dog attacked her dog, and now he refuses to pay. She’s suing for vet bills and lost work. The defendant argues the plaintiff’s dog attacked his dog, and he doesn’t owe.

The show does pay the litigants a $500 fee for appearing on the show (plus travel and hotel costs are covered) which could be why they aren't awarded for lost wages. I don't remember if Judge Milian ever awarded for pain and suffering either, which feels wrong sometimes.

@@Klw2010 same problem though. She might not be able to award for lost wages. It may depend on how the contracts are set up. For example, I am pretty sure I remember Judge Judy awarding for lost wages a few times. As for why she asks for proof? Don't know. If she had to immediately leave work or if she was incapable of working, then she’d be able to collect money on that. Unfortunately, the precedent has to be upheld that voluntarily electing to not go to work doesn’t count of being forced to miss work. Otherwise, that makes it that basically anyone can sue for that because they just felt like they were too tired/stressed to work regardless of if they have just cause to do so.

His dog was off leash and acting very aggressively (anyone who knows about dogs can recognize aggressive body language). He thought he would automatically win because her dog is part Pit. Huskies are more temperamental than pits ever will be, plus his dog was bigger. Agreed with JM that the dog walker was useless. If a dog starts acting aggressively with my dog like that, I separate them immediately. That defendant was so smug it blows my mind. His dog was OFF LEASH. What did he think was going to happen??

except that judge Judy is a lot more prejudiced against Pitbulls. The pitbull owner in this case was in the right, but I'm not sure if Judge Judy would've actually seen it that way. She probably would have had a good go at both of them even if she did rule the same way
@MusicTennis

JJ does pull out that article about Pits too much. The Husky was off leash, tried to mount the other dog (dominance), got frustrated and bit the Pit. JJ would have no choice to rule against the jerk defendant who needs to stop his Husky from mounting other dogs. Judges don't know enough about dogs to help out by telling them to watch Cesar Millan. Very sad that nobody "pays it forward".@@amandamatheny3675

Those dogs are NOT wagging their tails in a friendly manner. Both dogs are holding their bodies in a stiff motionless posture and both tails are erect and making quick small amplitude motions. This is called flagging and it is a sign of aggression. A dog putting its chin or any other part of its body over another dog is an assertion of dominance. This encounter was aggressive from the start.
