Your Peperomia caperata might look different from my Peperomia caperata, simply because it is quite possibly one of the species that has the most cultivars-or cultivated variations-than any other Pep out there. Whatever the case, this is featured as #167 in "365 Days of Plants"

My grandmother and I just got one of these for her window garden. Took a few clippings today. I love peperomia plants. They are so easy to care for and you can have millions of them because they stay small.

I find that the best way to water these is bottom watering. Works like a charm for me, I killed a few before switching to bottom watering, and I totally think that's the way to go with peps!

I will definetely try that yeah! I have a caperata rosso at home that lost all of its leaves... I really don't know what happened there, maybe too much light? I pulled it further away from the window and I will try to water it from the bottom now!

I love this plant so much! The main one I have is a quite a bit bigger than yours and I've gotten so many babies out of it! Whenever a leaf stem snaps off, I propagate them. I plop them in a glass of water, but don't let the water touch the raw ends until I see pretty strong root growth. Once they are ready to be planted into soil they put out new leaves from the root- pretty nice warning system! The original plant has also given me a little baby offshoot I have moved to another pot. I've probably have gotten over 10 new plants from the original one! They seem to be pretty happy almost anywhere I put them

I have both two...well, HAD. I still have the Ruby one...but the green one went kaplooey just yesterday of all days. My other ones are going strong.

Try again with a faster draining more sandy mix. Most of time Caperata collapse happens when your medium is holding on to too much moisture. Caperata loves humidity but hates wet feet.

Am I the only who has had issues with crown rot on peperomias? Particularly trailing ones. I switched to exclusively bottom watering my peperomias which has helped immensely.

just got these today with a good price at $3 usd. repotted it to a concrete pot with sandy type of lose potting mix from japan, not sure if it'd be alright. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on that.

I bought a beautiful P. caperata with cream colored foliage and green speckles and blotches here and there. Unfortunately, it came with no tag, hence no cultivar name. From a family run nursery in Newton, NH.

For an extremely common Peperomia, it is not that easy to keep. Easily rots if overwatered.

I’ve heard that, at least in the northeast US, now /autumn is the time when peperomia start to grow. Is this true? Should I continue to fertilize? We always talk about ‘the growing season’ and, for me, that’s usually spring & summer, tapering off in early fall. Are peperomias on a different schedule?

Can having peperomia in a pot too large kill the plant? I had a caperata in a 6 inch pot when I first started out and it eventually slowly died at the cluster. Leaves were fine and healthy though

If you give them another go try just watering from the bottom as needed. Have also learned to avoid getting any water droplets on the leaves.

Peperomias are the best bc they're one of those plants that u can just cut off a leaf with its petiole and put it in moist soil and it'll root up and make a new plant fairly quickly

Anytime I put a peperomia leaf in the soil, all I got was a peperomia leaf with roots. If you put the leaf into a jar of water, soon you will get roots. Once the roots are a good length, then you will get tiny leaves. Plant it into soil once you have a mini plant. Not too soon though, it will rot like one of mine did. I've successfully propagated four different peperomia using this method.

I've had great success with most of my peperomias by stem cuttings in water. I let the cut stem dry out for a few hours before putting in water (otherwise they rotted right away). I'm experimenting now with going straight into soil. That is working well, so long as the soil is damp, not wet, and with a cover to keep in humidity. The only one can't seem to propogate is watermelon pep.

@@litlckrets Ha, the best one (IMO). The problem I'm having with my watermelon pep are wrinkled, misshapen leaves. I've never tried propagating I don't want to take off one of the few good leaves.
