Peperomia Inaca have some of the most unusually stunning leaves in the peperomia family. It’s also one of the larger peperomia species that has a beautiful growth pattern. In this video I share with you the care (light, watering, soil.) for this plant as well as propagation tips. I also show you 2 successful propagates that I have done before.

ive had my incana for a year and its one of my most prized plants. it got a little damage on the lower leaves this winter, just i think from lack of sun. Ive been searching for a second one before I tried chopping mine to propogate in case I killed it! I found a second one and now... NOW I'm ready to try it out!

Thanks once again for sharing your knowledge Sean.. I don't have one yet buy i'm planning to have one.. The most common here is the pure green scandens, tje golden gate and the watermelon which I made a mistake propagating it by cutting the stem way too long so it's not producing leaves even after 1 and a half month.. I might cut the stem shorter after watching one of your propagation videos.. Haha
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 3 жыл бұрын
Hoho thank you. Be sure to give your cutting good light. I find that they grow/propagate better in AC room, also with less likelyhood to rot. This is perhaps because they are allegedly winter growers
@JALGalleries
@JALGalleries 3 жыл бұрын
@@onlyplants i think so taht they are winter growers because it is widely cultivated in our nearby province which is pretty cold.. My friend got new babies just after 1 month in soil just trying to know if he can grow new ones.. He just cutted it shorter like you did later and then sticked it to the pot of another plant which getting rained on..

Hey Sean, since you have mentioned air conditioner,i really want you to make a video on plants that can survive in air conditioner rooms. I’m still confused which one to keep inside and because of that i have kept all my plants outdoor, however I do wish to keep some of them inside “in the bedroom”🚼.

Thanks for this video sean! Just wanted to clarify on watering pepperomias that you mentioned when the older leaf gets soft, does that mean to hold off watering even when soil is bone dry?
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I find that usually the leaves are limp exactly when the soil is bone dry. Perhaps theres still stored up water pocket near where the roots are or that the plant is still full of water. They can tolerate drought periods very well too

I’ve been growing many different peperomia for years and I am recently confused by their watering needs. The older leaves on mine can be folded even when they are in days old moist soil. I have a peperomia ‘jelly’ obtusifolia that has the pink edges and the leaves are curling inward a bit ( with moist soil) and they can be folded. I have a watermelon peperomia and red ripple one that can be folded with moist soil too. I live in North Florida zone 9 and the plants are inside. I have most in clay fast draining soil. I use a bamboo skewer to tell if the soil is dry. If it comes out of the soil with no dirt stuck to it and goes in and out easily then I water it. I guess I’m just concerned with my peperomia Jelly- so maybe it’s the lighting- I put it in more light from an overhead grow light to see if the leaves firm up at any time and stop curling. Any advise?
@cmfornow
@cmfornow 3 жыл бұрын
I meant to say they are in clay pots- not just in clay 🤣
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, all leaves can be folded... but its about feeling the “give” or “firmness” of the fold. A full plant will fight back and feel succulent-like, while a thirsty plant will be limp. I have 2 suggestions for you: 1) let your peperomia go critically dry, and then try to feel the leaves and see what it feels like when its really thirsty. 2) get a moisture meter, they are very helpful at accurately reading moisture in the soil. Water only when it reads bone dry.

@@onlyplants Thanks! I’ll give that a try! I noticed one time that my peperomia Red Ripple was drooping and after watering it, it perked back up again. I like learning about how to tell if it is thirsty using different methods- whether visually, by touch or checking the soil. I’m less understanding of touch and find that very interesting. 👍👍👍

My huge incanas leaves are starting to curl inward. I had to transplant a couple months ago. It's inside now and receiving less light. Do you have any ideas on why the leaves would be doing this? It's my oldest and favorite plant

Its possibly overwatering.. They can take medium to bright indirect light but any direct sunlight will stress it out and burn it

Watching this video again because it is very informative and because I am trying to diagnose the problem of yellowing and falling leaves....five in three days. I have her growing in a northwest window, terra-cotta and a chunky quick draining soil that is allowed to completely dry out. The leaves are never cardboard like in firmness and she is putting out new growth. The leaves that fell of are large from the bottom of the plant leaving the bottom of the stem bare. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance.
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 3 жыл бұрын
Its possible that its just old leaves that are tired. If you live in the northern hemisphere I believe theres changes in the sun direction and north windows are receiving far less light than before... yellowing is a sign of not enough light too.
@seedrootsprouts2290
@seedrootsprouts2290 3 жыл бұрын

Hi Sean. Why there are black spots at the peperomia incana leaves? 😢
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 5 ай бұрын
Could be bacterial infection. The fuzzy leaves are quite succeptible to infection if water stays on it for too long. Neem oil diluted in soapy water sprayed on the leaves might stop infection from spreading. Do it in evening.

@onlyplants

In my experience most peperomias can be grown from leaf only. When you pot it up be sure not to bury the cutting in too deep into the soil as it hinders new growth from sprouting
