Looking at Akantor from the front was intimidating and proof you had balls of steel when you knew that 2 times out of 3 he would do his OP charge. A shame there was no G-rank Akantor outside of this DLC, with his own G-rank materials, weapons and armor. Copper Blangonga LS was OP with its massive purple sharpness, especially when you remember that purple was 1.5 multiplier vs 1.32 for white in this game. Damn, 2010 feels like 5 years ago, not 12.

@@Sarissa99 The DLC with a G-rank Akantor was called "High Altitude King". Peppo was doing the regular high-rank quest, you are right, my mistake. G-rank Akantor gave only high-rank materials along with an item to make the G-blade, a G-rank GS which was unfortunately way weaker than the Diablos, Ukanlos and Shen Gaoren GSs.

I think the backup plan for getting akantor from the front is to roll through his left arm that comes out first on the charge

I'll always remember how my palico stole not only my first Akantor by killing him right after i cart for the first time in the quest, but he also stole my second Akantor kill exactly the same way These kind of memories i'll never forget

IIRC, Akantors descended from a common anscestor of Tigrex and the like. That explains the similar anatomy and the little vestigial wing nubs still present on its forearms. And since the Guild knows their evolutionary origins, they are able to be placed under a specific class rather than just being Elder Dragons.

Akantor is one of my top 5 favorite monsters in the whole series and was a huge milestone for me when I solo'ed him for the first time (I solo'ed the entire game because none of my friends played MH 😅)

That also happens with head locking(or other weak parts) in the classic games. But not everyone can do a speedrunning strat, unlike 5th gen where everyone can trip and topple a monster alot.

He was bigger in my memory , i remember having a hard time dodgin his attack and seeing this now make me wonder how bad i was in that time . I never could experience the full game since i didint have the playstation to use the online feature , well except alone or in lan with friends that cant kill anything . Couldnt go further than the first fatalis i think because of that .

I still remember my first time beating Akantor. All of MHF2 and MHFU I had to play by myself so when I saw that beast fall I was so overjoyed...until I realized I wanted his weapons and armor for how cool they looked. Then the farming commenced.

there is a ledge bug that you can use to cheese akantor with long range weapons. sometimes i do it for fun since i'm HBG main. thing that i hate about this big dude is his tracking skill. he walks TOWARD you and hit like a truck or oneshot.

I like akantor more with hammer in my case magnitude, good old copper blangonga weapons If i remember right : 1 slot weapon Kaiser X Ceanataur U Ceanataur U Ceanataur Z Akantor Have the same skills, also works with bombs to get hero, but it just looks better :'D I was never a friend of the skull face design

It's taxonomically closer to monsters like Tigrex and Nargacuga than anything else. I believe you can see vestigial wing membrane on Akantor from when his species actually did fly if I'm not mistaken

@@baritonamekian3639 I watched a video too explaining it being a flying wyvern loosing its wings due to evolution. But just like diablos who has wings but rarely even use it for its intended purpose but instead he use it for digging along with its horns which is weird because the wings didn't evolve like what akantor went through. What capcom should do if they ever bring back akantor (which is unlikely) is reclassify it as other categories of wyverns like brute (it fits perfectly since elder dragons often challenge it for territorial reasons which is a big flex for a wyvern) just like bulldrome from herbivore to fanged beast. To end things off akantor being a flying wyvern is kinda stupid since those the wings already evolved into claws.
