I really liked this video. Perfect one to watch as I recover from a cold. I love to explore nature. One time I scuba dove the icebergs in Canada. The perceived risk was that the diving company could find the icebergs for us, that they had the best equipment for us to use, and that they'd showed people loving the diving. That's how they sold me. The safety risk was really unique. When you got close to the iceberg, you sink because you are in freshwater and you were weighted for saltwater. They had a guide to make sure I got out safely, and to watch out for that. They also looked for icebergs that wouldn't flip on us. Otherwise it would be like a 200 foot club coming my way. My phycological risk was, if my future employer saw my Facebook or Instagram photos, will they think I'm not long for this world and not hire me. I was worried about that. Turned out to be opposite. One social classification that I hated, but got was that I was an adrenaline junky. I just like to explore.

if you ask consumers what are their purchase decision criteria, they rarely mention risk. they mention desired benefits. how do we reconcile this?

Perceived Social Risk This is super interesting to me. I never thought about it until tonight but I have definitely experienced this. A couple of years ago I decided to try to make some homemade musubi which is super popular in Hawai'i and is Spam, rice and seaweed. When I picked up the Spam I kind of felt a tinge of embarrassment so to mitigate that I'm also bought some olive oil, cheese and probably some fresh produce just so the checkout person knew I wasn't a Spam lover. Just ridiculous on my part. 😐

But a completely normal act. Now can you confirm or deny that you sang the spam song as you left the store that would be great.

Hi Mark ! Thanks a lot for this clarification. I'm currently doing a thesis on perceived risks and purchase intention. Specifically, i'm lookin into risk mitigating factors that high involvement product marketers can deploy in order to influence the relationship between consumers' risk perception and purchase intention . Last but not least, i'm trying to examine the effects of risk mitigating mechanisms or (factors) on the relationship between perceived risks and consumers' purchase intention. Can u recommend a good read on the subject ? Is there anything i should be lookin into from your own professional opinion ? please advice. cheers :)

Identify the types of risk consumers might perceive in the context of purchasing a car?

...And now let us talk about healthcare. And those drug ads on TV. And the perceived dangers of doctors as well as big pharma. And the real risks of medical treatment (though magic is probably worse), and that the third or fourth leading cause of death is medical incompetence. Just kidding.

Or when the ad for that new drug is 45 seconds of side effects and 15 of what it does

@@ProfessorWolters That's an interesting one. I guess it's better to be heard, even with the risk of turning off many of the targets than to remain silent. Like with finding a date.
