I don't care what anyone says... I think Annabeth was perfectly cast. It's not easy to portray a stoic character who is wise beyond their years, but also still very much a kid. And I think Leah Jeffries does a great job of striking that balance!

I agree. This actress is doing an amazing job with the role so far.

I love her. I never got the hate tbh. Unless it really matters to the character as a person, appearance means nothing for a book character
@msfluorescent9 ай бұрын
I love the casting personally, and I like how Annabeth is, no hate whatsoever. My only (slight) thing is that Annabeth IS one of the characters that is described in the books, while there are PLENTY of other characters they could have cast however they wanted because they aren't explicitly described already. Same with Percy; he's supposed to have black hair and green eyes, so that's slightly off for me too. But like I said, I don't really mind the changes, because their characters are essentially exactly alike, including Annabeth. I plan on watching and following this show avidly. I'm a huge fan of the books and I am becoming a big fan of this show and I'm so excited to see the rest of it, and to watch people react to it~

I really like how Medusa was portrayed with way more nuance and care than she was in the books. I also liked that Annabeth clocked Medusa right away! I'm the books, Medusa's identity was a slower reveal. IMO This undercut Annabeth's perceived intelligence, so I'm glad they fixed that issue in the series.

I just want to point out something that made me giggle: “the symbol of Nike is Hermes right?” The symbol of Nike is…Nike. The Greek goddess of victory, typically shown as a human woman with wings. The swoosh was modeled after the curve of her wing.
@tedda1410 ай бұрын
the person in charge of the casting of the 3 main characters was the author himself, Rick Riordan. he chose her and told her that if anyone says shit to remember that she was chosen to be annabeth by him. which is badass and she said has given her a lot of comfort.
@user-dx2dm8oq8g10 ай бұрын
Annabeth here is a complex character on her own mission, in the movie she was instantly presented as the love interest of Percy. In the show, you can see a friendship building more naturally. Medusa started off as a victim to then become a villain. I don't get her line about bullies when she has stoned just as many monsters as she has innocent people. She reminds me of the witch in hansel and gretel. She's luring lost people in with food acting selfless, but has a whole petrified village in her basement.
@RB-km4om10 ай бұрын
I think the line about bullies was just because saying stuff like that makes you seem like a good person. Someone else pointed this out, but she has all of the monsters in the front yard ( the "justifiable" victims) and the innocent victims are in the basement. So it seems like she is a good person turning monsters to stone, when she actually isn't.

The actress that plays Medusa is Jessica Parker Kennedy, who played in the show the flash on the cw as flashes daughter, even more interesting she's 39 years old yet she looks 25...(edit: just now watched the part that you found out yourself lol, but yeah "all grown up" she is older than Grant (flash) and Candice (Iris) I also think she looks alot like Lady Dimitriscru (that tall hot lady vampire from Resident Evil Vilage) in that whole Medusa outfit

I was a diehard Percy Jackson fan since 2005 when the first book came out. I was in elementary school and had read through all the kids' books in the school library when our librarian introduced me to the series. I read the whole series year by year and when the sequel series came out, I did the same for them. I'm a librarian now, I've been an English teacher, and I owe that in part to this series. So I think I'm pretty qualified to tell all the haters that Annabeth's actress is killing it. She's exactly what we wanted in the fandom (and you can best believe I was reading all the fanfictions and looking at all the fanart through middle school and high school) for YEARS. I will say Alexandria Daddario got a little flak for not looking like the book's description of Annabeth too, but it was a drop in the bucket compared to the outrage I saw from some people over Leah Jeffries. This is crazy to me, because in my opinion Leah has levelled up my idea of Annabeth. I always liked her, but Leah's portrayal makes her feel less like a quippy Hermione-type and more like a real, serious thinker and strategist...who also is capable of letting down her walls. Kudos to her and the rest of the cast and crew for bringing my childhood dream to life.

It was really important to me that Annabeth not be the typical Strong Spunky Female Side Character who's good at everything but has no personality. Annabeth is smart and she's prickly. She doesn't have good emotional intelligence, but Percy and Grover do, which is important for kids to see. Leah Jeffries is doing an incredible job balancing the character--she's had some moments of extremely subtle acting that I'd be impressed with in an actor twice her age.

I’m glad we all agree that we are thirsting after Medusa. Jessica Parker Kennedy would also get me caught up and turned to stone. LOL. Glad the Black Sails producers are bringing their friends on for this. This episode is the biggest change they’ve made to the books and I think it’s a vast improvement of an already good story. The nuance used to tell Medusa’s story and using it to develop Percy and Annabeth’s characters, diving just a little deeper into complexity.

Firmly standing by the idea that book series should be made into tv shows over movies. Yeah movies are great but a lot of plot and character development get lost in them due being compressed so much to fit into the timeframe needs but with the t shows you can put so much more In

You said it right there my guy, Percy (Walker Scobell) is killing it as the lead right now! Personally, that's what I feel is the problem with the series so far! He's out-acting his peers... and even his adult counterparts. I don't think the actor's playing Grover and Annabeth are doing a bad job... You can just see and feel that Percy (Scobell) is carrying everything in this show, so far! I'm just a bit "meh" about the other characters... Just like you guys said about the previous ep with Jason Mantzoukas playing Dionysus... He's known for his comedic chops, but there was nothing there for him to do really and show off his talent. It's only ep 3 and i will give the rest of the series a shot but Scobell is shining here, and it might be because he's been on other pretty big productions previous and that's why his screen presence is carrying everyone else, in particular the side-kicks! You can see the differences between them when they're in scene's together. He's killing the fish out of water (pardon the pun) aspect of his character... the nuances of being a neglected child by his step-father and father. The love he portrays for the one true person who has always been there for him and has undying loyalty and devotion to(his mother). Doing all that stuff as a performer creates this void in other performances with the guys you share screen time with. Anyways, I'm still going to watch the series and see how it goes... but for me it's not really hitting the grand heights of what's going on on social media and review sites etc. Nice reaction... once again lads!
