In the tunnel during Hephaestus story being told we got the realization that he doesn’t like what his family did/does to him. Even with the short story Percy told of the chair you could see that he would be on Annabeth’s side. It was a great set up to her monologue. And why his turn felt genuine, because she was the first to show him any measurement of hope for the change he wants for his family. Also Annabeth just got her world turned upside down that the mother who she worshipped kicked her to the curb for something she didn’t do just like Medusa story. It’s really well connected and natural especially “she didn’t want you to turn out like them.” Part she said to Percy. She doesn’t blindly worship the gift or her mother anymore. Excellent writing, and superb acting for Leah and Tim.

I read a comment by Copeland that said that this was the first thing he's been in that his kids can watch which made me laugh a lot. He was such good fun as Ares!

This episode strayed the most from the book but ironically I think it was the best ep so far. They're doing an amazing job understanding what kinds of changes actually make sense to serve the story, themes, and characters (unlike the movies, which changed things for seemingly no reason). Also all the kids did an amazing job acting this episode, especially Walker and Leah. The chair scene almost had me tearing up. Oh and Ares was perfect, he felt like he was ripped straight out of the book. That was A+ casting

I was really excited about this episode, and it did not disappoint 😭🤗this episode was definitely my favorite, Ares was hilarious but intimidating, Grover was being a gaslighting genius, the freaking “what is love” jumpscare was too hilarious , I could not stop laughing😭 and Percabeth was PERCABETHING🤭🤭

Hephaestus is just like them, tired of being pushed aside, pushed around and disrespected. He's the most human god from what we've seen, because he can be reasoned with. I don't trust Ares, he cares more about a new war starting than finding the bolt. So I'm thinking that he somehow smuggled it in the bag and sent them to Hermes who'll get them to Hades to make the delivery.

If the Santa Monica “event” isn’t in the show I’m gonna riot. This episode sets it up so I don’t see why it wouldn’t be included. Remember when Chiron said “Demigods can do thing gods can’t do for themselves” that’ll be important for later

This episode was a little disappointing to me. The story pacing was off. It felt like annabeth should have been having this moment in the season finale or something. I dont think they've gotten close enough for this. I don't mind them shifting from the storyline in the books but it should atleast make sense. It felt way too dramatic and also like a repetition. Because percy sacrificed himself in the last episode and does it again in this one immediately with not much room to let that event breathe. This moment would have felt better if it happened close to the end but I guess if they had to change something, I'd rather they kept the climax same? (That's my sister's opinion). The grover and Ares talk was the highlight of the episode. Wonder if anyone else felt the same.

I disagree. Last episode, Percy acted impulsively and without Annabeth's input. This time, they had an opportunity to talk to each other, think, and plan. So it made sense to me as a narrative progression. Also, I trust Rick Riordan enough to hold off on judging why Annabeth's realization happened here and not later. Chances are, we're being set up for a more profound revelation in the final episodes. We also need the three leads to trust each other going into the final climax IMO.

@@SM-BSW yeah I have faith in Uncle Rick too, I just wish they had them talk out Percy's impulsive decision last time more. I guess him deciding to do it again, made that point to annabeth where she sees this guy who is willing to sacrifice himself unlike the eat or be eaten world of theirs too but just felt a little off. Maybe they have to speed the character development up to wrap everything up in 8 episodes.
