That took me back to the Blue Peter days, Percy Thrower and John Noakes in that photo, two national treasures that we have lost. Can you imagine Percy seeing what plants and tech we have to our avail today? He would have been amazed. I loved watching Percy's films on Blue Peter - I am sure someone would have uploaded clips elsewhere. I also loved Geoff Hamilton, his series 'Paradise Gardens' brought tears to my eyes. My Grandad's favourite was Geoff Smith - we couldn't speak, when Geoff was on the telly! In latter years I loved to watch Harry Dodson - he would talk about the times that I heard about from my late grandfather. He said that his father never failed to put a meal on the table for him and his family (6) - all home grown veg. My own grandfather was a head gardener at 17 years old, before going off to war as a young man. My grandfather never gave up gardening, retired in his eighties, lived until 101 years of age - it clearly did him good. Lovely video, Dan. Good for the viewers abroad to learn about some of our gardening gurus.

Thanks for your lovely comment. Certainly a great gardener and blimey with all the stuff today imagine what he would have thought and great your grandad lived until that age. Gardening is such a positive thing.
