Love seeing your kale and culture I am just planting out seedlings of Homesteader's kaleidoscope perennial kale "grex" (mix) in western Oregon. It is a breeding project, from, as you say, rare seed from perennial kale and tree collards (more common in the USA), the resulting plants then crossed with with long lived brassica from collection spanning decades! I'm excited to see the kales develop, and begin to select my favorites!! (Seed for the grex are available from Experimental Farm Network)

Nice to see the giant kale in your gardern. I have had mine for 5 years now and continues going strong. I have replanted some cuttings for a fresh start.

Hi, lovely vid - thanks, and I like the idea of planting out into the wilder places of the garden to see if the birds can help with pests. In Portugal you see the big kale everywhere. Couve Galega Portuguese Walking Stick Cabbage is their name and I've planted a few at my place.

Enjoy your channel and would like for you to get more views. You obviously know regen, soil health etc feel you could start at real basic ideology and practice that brought you to how produce today. Mad where you grow. Are you going to try methods to extend your season. Would also like to know more of how to seed select and improve seed quality. Something that I haven't come across. All the best to you and family in the future

Thanks so much. I love gardening in it. I don’t have any cuttings right now but I got mine from someone on eBay so it’s always worth looking there if nurseries are all sold out

What planting zone are you in? I'm trying to figure out if I can overwinter D'Aubenton Kale in my zone 6 garden. I'm reading mixed reviews on what temps it will survive. Thank you in advance!

Hi, we are in zone 8 I think and we have lost a few to the cold so you might be pushing it with zone 6 but it’s worth a try

I bought some D’Aubenton Kale from you on your eBay site before Christmas last year, it snowed soon after planting and none (3) of the cuttings have survived despite my covering them with fleece Very disappointing although the babington leeks are doing well most likely as I put those in the conservatory in pots

Is that a regular tree kale, or a walking stick tree kale? I did not know if the walking stick kale would put off shoots that could be made into cuttings to root, or not. I can not find out much information on the walking stick kale, but still interested even if it is a different king.

Is Taunton Deane Kale which doesn’t naturally grow like a tree, it’s only a tree because we trained it that way. It’s much bushier than the walking stick kale. Our walking stick kale was very short lived

Do they resprout if you cut them back to almost ground level?
@thoseplantpeople530
@thoseplantpeople530 3 жыл бұрын
I have tried a few times with no success but I would say it’s probably possible if the stem hasn’t got too woody

Can you cut the main stem on the perannel kale?
@thoseplantpeople530
@thoseplantpeople530 Жыл бұрын
My experience is that’s it’s hit and Miss if it comes back and shoots from below the cut point. If you are not too precious about it and it’s got too big then give it a go but take a few cutting aswell as insurance incase it doesn’t come back

Hi, yes we do but just working out how to send them whilst self isolating. Post is a bit slow right now so not sure they would survive

@thoseplantpeople530

I haven’t tried it with the others yet but I don’t see why not. It’s just a case of staking a stem upright and removing the lower branches. If you give it a try let me know how it goes
