The Cars One of the most amazing debuts of all time. The second side suite is stunning and still holds up today. They were so far ahead of their time. A timeless album. A classic debut.

It’s worth noting, and Martin will know this, that Crime Of The Century was an absolute phenomenon in Canada, where it’s one of the first albums here to ever be certified 10 x platinum or Diamond. That’s by far more than it’s sold in any other country, including the U.S or UK where it’s only certified gold. It’s sold more copies in Canada than the US with only 10% of the population. Canada might be their biggest market because Breakfast in America is also Diamond Status in Canada. When you think of a list that Includes bands with more than one diamond album, Supertramp is one name I don’t think most people would expect to see on that list. Pretty cool
@TommyZadick
@TommyZadick 3 жыл бұрын
When that album first came out I was in a record store where that was playing over the sound system. I had never heard of Supertramp before. I bought it on the spot. Loved Supertramp ever since.
@damiankarras
@damiankarras 3 жыл бұрын
@Martin Popoff Saturday night Fever was the first, grease soundtrack was the second both in 78. Both compilations. Supertramp’s 2 albums were certified in 1979. Just crazy when you think about it. Fleetwood Mac (certified Diamond in 78) Rumours, and Meatloaf (certified diamond in 79) figure in there somewhere too, but those are actually double Diamond albums now. Still quite an accomplishment from little old Supertramp.

My "problem" with Abbey Road is "I Want You (Shes So Heavy). It's not that it's a bad song. It just doesn't seem to fit with the vibe of the rest of the album. It seems out of place. I think it would have fit better on the self-titled white album. I'm splitting hairs, though.

Thanks Pete and Martin for again doing part 2 of this list....here are my top five favorite perfect albums part two: 1. Beatles ----- Revolver (1966).......I could've picked so many of their albums........obviously.......but I just think top to bottom this is just to perfect and I think (other than Sgt Pepper which is a concept album) Revolver is the album they envisioned that they would make 2. Pink Floyd ----- Wish You Were Here ---- (1975) .....hard to follow an album like Dark Side of the Moon but I think they hit a grandslam here so brilliantly 3. Green Day ------ Dookie (1994)......great mix of punk and pop some might say Kerplunk was perfect or even better but again I think Dookie is the album they envisioned making (maybe American Idiot) but I went with my personal favorite perfect album and Dookie for me is just that top to bottom 4 Queensryche ------ Operation Mindcrime (1987)......hard to say what the band might have been envisioning as their perfect album (I would've loved to ask them) but they did here.......an absolute masterpiece top to bottom 5. Iron Maiden ------ Killers (1981)........could have gone with any of the first five albums here.......but again I went here with my personal favorite perfect album and that's Killers

Chameleons! great pull! One of my favorites - bought "What Does Anything Mean Basically?" on a whim in '85 and I've been a big fan since. At the time it would have been one of the first 10-12 CDs that I bought - still bought vinyl after that but pretty soon converted to all CD.

I still remember Al Stewart around Year of the Cat, and perhaps better, Time Passages, as one of the best all round concerts I have ever seen, though not exactly hard rock. At that time 10cc and Renaisance were amongst the best live bands. That is hard to explain to some, but their presentation was up there with Genesis, Camel and Wishbone Ash and their musicianship second to none.
