What I love about this is that even though Emeril is an amazing chef in his own right, he caters to Julia's tastes, i.e. toasting the buns when she said let's pretend they're toasted or immediately dispensing with the salsa. It's good to see someone as good as Emeril somewhat gracefully stepping aside for a moment and letting Julia decide what's best, even if only what toppings to put on their burgers.

Julia Child was one of the first to recognize Emeril's talent not just as a chef but as a TV personality when she invited him to be on "Cooking with Master Chefs" which she hosted.

Look at Emeril, what genuine respect. Julia gives the slightest hint of a suggestion and he springs into action! A master is someone who has mastered the basics, attention is in the details. If Julia wants the roles toasted, Emeril makes sure those roles are toasted. I have a new appreciation for Lagasse after seeing this.

Respect? Nope. He should have read her recipe for hamburgers before she came on the show. He was unprepared. She took it in stride, he looked like a fool, his fans clapped for him like trained seals.

2 of THE BEST CHEFS in the world collaborating on how to put something as simple as a burger together. Great and entertaining at the same time. It was so great to actually see this clip again of Chef Lagasse like that at a young age with how he treated a mentor and fantastic chef with the most respect there ( I have to toss a little seasoning on my tomatoes too haha.) Thanks for the clip and I miss seeing the Master’s at work. Thanks to them I have made plenty of great meals over the years people have loved and still share with others. 🍻 cheers.

I saw a very old show of Julia with a very young Emeril in New Orleans doing a cray fish boil. Very fun. I will say either Emeril is wearing some serious lifts or he has a platform to stand on as he is 5'7" and Julia is 6'2". LOL She has a hamburger episode with Jacques Pepin that is quite good.

I remember watching this show live in the year 2000 I think. Emeril was so unprepared for Child's visit. At this point in her career, Child wasn't doing much cooking on TV anymore. He should have read how she made her hamburgers and had it waiting for her on a silver platter. All these years later, Child is still influencing the way American cooks with her books that are timeless. Emeril is now doing informercials late at night.

I was disappointed. I thought they would talk about how to season the meat prior to cooking it. Simply dressing a bland burger doesn't do it for me. Two words: Red Robbin
@sammorrow758
@sammorrow758 5 жыл бұрын
Actually, they did. This is just the part where they show how to dress the burger. Prior to this scene, she mentioned how she enjoys thin patties with salt and pepper and other seasoning and shallots among other things. That segment was too long to post connected to this.

I remember watching this live back in 2000. Emeril was so unprepared for Child that it was embarrassing. He didn't put the cheese in her cheese souffle, and he didn't even READ how she makes her hamburgers. She seasons her burgers with thyme. He didn't have any and instead offered his miserable "essence", and she wanted none of it. Julia took it in stride, Emeril looked like a buffoon.

Richard Folkman Emeril isn't among the best. He was one of the worst of the Food Network at that time and was part of its transition away from education to entertainment/sensationalism. Now he sells cheap pasta sauce that is unfit for eating and is a has been. Julia Child passed away four and a half years after this was aired and she is still influencing how America cooks. If I want to know something about cooking, I pull out Mastering. If I want to think about the dumbing down of America, I would meditate on Emeril.
