My sponges turned out only about 1.5" tall (baked 6" 3 tier recipe) for a tall cake i thought it was quite small no? How can one adjust this recipe to make a taller /deeper cake? Im using 4"deep cake tins
@BritishGirlBakes2 жыл бұрын
You can double the recipe if you like but your cake layers will bake more evenly when they're 1.5" thick than if they're 3" thick. If you do double the recipe I would reduce the baking temperature to 325 Fahrenheit so that the layers don't overbake around the edges.

I've tried this recipe several times and for some reason it never cooks completely and that's even after putting it in for longer than time stated. I'm doing the 2 8 inch cakes
@BritishGirlBakes Жыл бұрын
Oh no! Every oven is so different. Do you have a third pan the same size? If you divide the batter into three pans they'll cook faster. Alternatively, use a smaller batter (try the 3-layer 6" cake in the table under "Tall Cakes" on the recipe on the website) in 2 8" pans and that will cook faster, too
@victoriakirtley4793 Жыл бұрын
@BritishGirlBakes the annoying thing is it tastes amazing so chocolatey it just still looks wet on the top in the middle wasn't sure if I was over mixing with the mixer but tried one mixing my hand aswell 🤔 thank you for your advice ill try that next time 😊

So folks, I have never made a cake from this channel. If someone does make it please tell me how it went! Because I've tried so many recipes but still haven't found that moist cake which stays moist in the fridge for a week, the ones you get in bakeries
@BritishGirlBakes2 жыл бұрын
Tricks for keeping it moist: 1) Frosting! If you frost the cake it seals the moisture so it doesn't dry out 2) Keep it covered after slicing it by pressing a piece of cling film/saran wrap against the cut side so it doesn't dry out 3) Eat it at room temperature. Cold cake tastes dry take the cake or a slice of cake out of the fridge 2-4 hours before you're going to eat it Hope that helps!

Disappointing result. 🙁 Not your recipe I must add. It was my first effort! I think I never left the butter long enough to get to room temperature. I also used my new Kmix for first time. I only had shallow tins which overflowed in the oven. They came out looking ok ish. I ploughed on and made a chocolate butter frosting and tried my hand at filling and covering the cake. (Have bought a revolving plate and all the equipment. ) Ha! Not as easy as it looks! Kept going though and produced a fairly good looking result. Chocolate frosting tasted lovely. Sadly, the cake didn’t taste good. Heavy and wet and dense like not cooked properly. 🤦🏻 I won’t give up though! I’ll let you know how I get on with the next one. XxLyn
