Such a simple song, but so, so brilliant. Uncannily greater than the sum of its parts.

lovely! REM had a great great great run. Some very powerful music. Some not. But that's how it goes. A band America should be proud of. They will stand the test of time. A new generation will find them.

This and Nightswimming are my two favourites. This one has a beautiful abstract quality to it, I'm sure Mills/Stipe had something in mind when they wrote it but it's brilliantly vague, it allows the listener to fill in the blanks. Love the structure of the music too. Genius.

Bill Berry was the primary writer on this one. He has a special place in my heart, and this song is one of the reasons. It's one of my favorites of theirs.

As teenagers we all secretly hold close to our hearts an ecstatic, hopeful vision of adult romance. A blissful, exciting, albeit vicarious feeling. And those years, those places in which we do this imagining become imbued with a special kind of magic. This song evokes those times and that special feeling. A magical form of nostalgia. That's my reading of it anyway. It's a really special thing to have captured that feeling in a song.

Michael Stipe wrote the lyrics to all of their songs. Harmonies may have come from other members. If Bill, Peter or Mike said they wrote a song that means they came up with a riff or the entire music for the track.

A lot of people don’t know this song was written by Bill Berry. Wish I knew what it was about. To the nine people (so far) who gave this a thumbs-down, you should go elsewhere. Maybe there’s a Katy Perry or Justin Bieber video for you. Clueless as can be.

@@mercedesblack7828 nope it was this song.... The lyrics of "Perfect Circle" are purposely opaque. Members of the band agree that the song has an emotional theme that can be interpreted in many ways. For guitarist Peter Buck, the song elicits images of children playing football one evening in Trenton, New Jersey
@mercedesblack78283 жыл бұрын
@@michaeloraghailligh4785 11 people in a football team makes sense. That is only one reference to football. Bill Berry wrote it and looking at Redfit, the band members all had different takes on interpretation. I don't think its concrete enough. One of their best tunes both in music and lyric . In my opinion.
