@UbinTimor4 жыл бұрын
It makes much more sense for numbers 1 and 2 to be tourist/residential areas because: 1: The large train station is pointing in that direction making it easier to transport people and tourists to those areas and not have to worry about huge highways connecting to it. 2: You already have commercial/residential/tourist districts in that direction it would look kind of weird to have a huge industrial port right next to those areas. 3 and 4 should be fishing/industry for two important reasons: 1: Your industry is already growing in that direction, which means less road planning. 2: Building an industrial bay would make it easier and faster for your industry to transport goods to a cargo bay on the ocean, which would lower/prevent any traffic issues in your main city. Gotta say, these new traffic mods are a god-send, makes wonder why Paradox hasn't included them in some sort of mod bundle on their page or included them in the base game after compensating the mod authors. I think including these in the base game would help new players understand how road networks work which would cut down on frustration as these player create bigger cities. For instance my girlfriend bought Skylines after watching me play one day and she loves the game but gets frustrated at it because she doesn't plan things out (she's new to building games). Traffic is her number one frustration with the game and her biggest problem, and every time she asks me for help or tells me something's wrong with the game I instantly see that her road networks are horrible. I'd say I'm pretty moderate at the game- I'm not a road master but I focus very heavily on road networks in my city (mainly because I live in California and know how frustrating it is to wait in traffic), so road building and these road mods are very important to me. If more people knew how easy these mods make things for people to build I think it would limit some frustrations players- like my girlfriend- have with the game.

Instead of the yellow grid in the intersections, here in the states we just put signs on the traffic light poles that say "Don't block the box."
@adm1nspotter4 жыл бұрын
Sooo glad to see those signs starting to pop up in Seattle... local driving culture is "make that light by any means necessary, block the heck out of that intersection". Signs are one thing, but making it stick is an entirely separate matter. I understand Washington DC police had a mandate a number of years ago to keep gridlock down by ticketing people for "blocking the box", and it apparently helped a lot over the long term. Ideally, of course, we'd improve transit options so that cars wouldn't be necessary. Maybe all the COVID-19-mandated remote work here in Seattle will help a lot of companies and workers realize that commuting isn't necessary anyway.
@flowerdolphin56484 жыл бұрын
In my city we rarely get so much traffic that it would block the junctions. If it does get really bad, we employ the street police to show people when they can go. But our public transportation network is so good that not many people are using their cars anyway.

Hi Biffa, have been following your content for quite some time. Keep up the good work. You taught me much about this game. I'll pick it up when I have a powerful enough machine and it's on a discount. Paradox's price policy is brutal. I agree with many others. Area 1 would make a really good industrial port. Area 4 for some kind of mix of historical and modern fishing port and the other two for tourist/leisure. Have you ever considered to deliberately do lane mathematics like on the Autobahn (and probably other highways)? So instead of substracting the lane that goes off, you add an additional lane for a few nodes before it goes off and the reverse when it goes on. So the number of lanes on the main road remains unchanged. This is mosty used for simple on/off lanes though. Large intersections do what you are doing in splitting the lanes. The yellow grids you describe are baked into the normal traffic rules in Germany. (Not that everyone follows them and espacially this clause though.) Is this not the case in the UK? Or are the grids more reminders at crucial crossroads where traffic often jams? Another pet peeve of mine is the slope of tracks in your cities. Especially your tram bridges. You've started to use that stuff less and I think that's a good idea. Is there some kind of mod to restrict slopes to somewhat realistic levels? As the game is not perfecty to scale there should be some leeway but building bridges for trains or trams is just ridiculous. Keep up the good work and looking forward to the expansion of TeaPort

The yellow grids you mentioned in the UK are called junction boxes. They have the same effect as the TM:PE 'don't continue into junction' button. For international viewers, the 'box junction' with the yellow box is typically used in places where blocking an intersection would cause problems, one of the key places they get used is junctions with tram tracks and level crossings with trains, because the consequences of stopping on a level crossing in a queue of traffic when there's a train due should be obvious.

The river delta with the castle ruins should, in my mind, be turned into a nature reserve park and historical tourist spot. Maybe with a little medieval/historic village (cobblestone, walking only roads, half-timbered houses and museums) around it? You could take the german city "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" as an inspiration for that. It would be a new and exciting addon for your city which you have never done before. 28:25 you don't need an asymmetric road under the bridge. should be two one ways into a 3 lane one way under the overpass, into asymmetric road with left hand turn to on ramp.

1: National park and resort. 3: Port and proximity to ore. Or vice versa.

Number 1 looks the most suited for a port. Open, little beach to bother with. Holiday resort things would be more a number 3 in my opinion. Lots of open, wide beach areas and it's closer to the mountains in case people want to go have a hike up there or something.

We have the yellow hash marks on intersections in NZ as well. General rule is "don't enter an intersection unless you can safely exit it", so they're only used on intersections on main roads, where it's important for drivers to remember the rule to avoid jams at rush hour; also at level crossings.

In Spain as well. They are also used in front of fire stations so that the road is always clear for the firetrucks in case they need to go out.

1 Port. 2 high end residential with mansions, golf courses, marina etc. 3 holiday resort. 4 fishing docks. And the bit at the bottom near the delta could be another marina with a big city area nearby.

At 29:43 you can upgrade it to a one way road because the traffic can’t go anywhere!

1 for the port, 3 & 4 for a public beach and touristic area. Area 2 can be like an old beach town people don't like anymore but was popular 50 years ago (poorer area with old, smaller houses as historical buildings, little business and perhaps a monument remembering it's former glory)

3 for the port (fewest beaches and is in direct line with that unused exit of the Timboh's Turbine), 2 for the tourists (beaches and mountains and you can create a lovely countryside drive/train/airship to get there).

Area 3 for port. There is railway access close in the area and motorway access pretty close.

we have those yellow areas in sweden to.. and usually a sign saying "do not stop in the yellow marked area". its to keep people blocking other traffic at junctions... also if there are trams, its to stop people stoping on the tracks... you dont want a tram raming you in the side..

#1 for a port, and #2-3 as holiday areas, especially #3 :) this map reminds me of an island i've visited frequently, and #3 is a perfect tourist beach

Number 4 looks like a prime spot for a port. Sure, you'll lose some nice beaches but tbf there are so much beaches on this map. The unconnected side of your highway intersection is almost pointing straight at 4, a natural development for your existing high-and railway network and relatively close to your city and industries. If you do a bit of terraforming, straighten out the edges and add some quay walls to the bay, I reckon you can make a very nice looking port with plenty of room for some extra industry (I see a lot of ore and trees).

Good evening from Australia, Teaport is looking awesome as ever! I like the idea of #1 being the port area. But make sure you check your ship access and resources first so Teaport can live up to it's name with an outstanding new feature area!

17:57 There are more bits that cars can't drive on: The small triangle above the trapeze you've drawn in, the middle section in the figure described by the lines from the green and blue dots on the top and purple and blue dots on the left, a smallish triangle starting from the blue and the orange dots on the left and the spots symmetrical to the latter two. If you filled them in, too, it would please _my_ OCD, but then again, you have a life :) 30:15 That iis a weird bit: a lot of cars are coming from that monorail overpass and want to go into the tunnel, they have to turn right and then do that lefthand hairpin turn, whereas they could just go straight.

1 seems like an industrial cargo port, 2 maybe fishing, 3 is a beachfront leisure/resort type area with passenger/cruise port, and 4 seems like a good place for a very marshy park
