At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. A big thanks to everyone responsible for these amazing numbers, what a humbling achievement. For comparison, last year's event raised just under $500,000.

God what a GREAT fucking game. I always felt like this game got lost in the shadow of GoldenEye, and was Rare's masterpiece for the N64. So well-designed, so complex,so action-packed, so-well thought-out, with great story-telling, and just flat-out fun to play, along with being challenging. One of the handful of gems for the N64. Fucking incredible run by BBMan. Wow.

Goldeneye was Rare's master piece, Perfect Dark WAS Goldeneye with extra things added. This is the same reason Home Front couldn't beat Call of Duty, cause it WAS Call of Duty with a little extra shit added, that context will never get passed gamer's, you cant make the same game as a popular game, add a little bit extra stuff, call it something else, and pass it off as a "new" game. It's mostly not new.

As much as I love goldeneye (it was my first game for the n64) it's not just "a little bit of extra stuff" getting added. It uses the same technical foundation,but improved(?), and creates an entire new IP with its own dystopic universe, background story and more developed characters. Goldeneye didn't even have voice lines or comparable characters despite being based on a film. The missions are a little more fleshed out, the level design imo is much better and diverse, and the gunplay and weapon selection is million times more interesting than the klobbs and soviets of 007. Perfect Dark came out towards the end of the N64 generation and I think it really shows. That said, I really get what you mean with the original never being surpassed in its sublimity and originality. I feel similarily towards Baldurs Gate1, Fallout 1 for instance, even if I can see their sequels being far more accomplished.

+yuyu tutu Here's the thing though, Perfect Dark is literally called a "spiritual successor" to Goldeneye, which by definition means: a successor to a work of fiction which does not build upon the storyline established by a previous work as do most traditional prequels or sequels, yet features many of the same elements, themes, and styles as its source material, thereby resulting in it being related or similar "in spirit" to its predecessor. Rare used an upgraded version of Goldeneye's game engine for Perfect Dark, what im saying is literally an objective fact, they made this game based exactly off the flaws and good things about Goldeneye, this is where their source material comes from. Whether or not anyone wants to agree that GE is the better game is irrelevant, Goldeneye is the game that was built from scratch in to greatness, Perfect Dark was built on top of Goldeneye.

I don't think people really understand the intense amount of skill that goes into this run. This game is INSANELY hard on Perfect Agent, let alone to speed run it. Boss was playing incredibly safe on a lot of levels and managed to get through all of the main levels without dying in a marathon run is just incredible... let alone the mission 1 free fall with no pause buffer lmao. Boss is a fucking legend.

In my opinion this game is just TOO hard on Perfect Agent. 007 Agent on Goldeneye wasn't half as bad. I breezed through it on Special Agent like a hot knife through butter. To this very day I can't beat the third mission on Perfect Agent and I know the difficulty is just going to go vertical in every future mission, so why bother stressing out on such an old game?. It's an old game and old games are usually very annoying. Outdated game mechanics, clunky controls, no checkpoints and just too hard. I don't get nostalgic for retro games at all for this reason.

What completely baffles me is how powerful Datadyne is. they own and control like 20 bases that are mixed from science labs, weapon and armor facilities, armories, alien bases, villas. And all of them completely saturated with heavily armored guards. Meanwhile I don’t even own my own car

This game was/is leagues above Goldeneye, but the majority opinion thinks otherwise. I get this would be nothing without Goldeneye having been first, but it is original and better in every way. So much customization, secondary functions, difficulty, great original story and characters. I like how Bossman says the last few are his bread and butter: Perfect Agent gets insane once you get to Deep Sea: Nullify Threat. He must've practiced a lot on those levels. Institute Defense is no joke if you run out of cloak, and any mistake on Attack Ship or Ruins results in a fatal ambush or Skedar punch. Area 51 missions are no joke either, and Crash Site can suck. I can't pull off that mine trick to kill the clone without having to go below the mountain, even if I do the crouch throw glitch.

It's just a copy of Goldeneye made 3 years after Goldeneye came out. Goldeneye is the masterpiece. It's ironic you said this game is original, that's the furthest thing from the truth and perfect dark not being original is the reason it didn't sell more or have more popularity than Goldeneye. Perfect Dark has levels from Goldeneye in the Multiplayer to pay homage cause Perfect Dark is just a Goldeneye rip off, even the main character is a James Bond rip off, Joanna is a British secret agent that carries out undercover missions for the government. I played perfect dark when i was eleven (good old days) and it was so hard for me to get through it even only on special agent. Well, a hell of a game for those good old days. I miss the 90´s :-/ Life was easier, wish i could live a little bit today like i could during my childhood. Dont think so much about things to do, or should do, and just be more in the present without anxiety and all that stupid stuff! This game with all the sounds, it simply reminds me at those old days. ZANARK There's a 360 arcade version with increased fps and better textures, though, it still looks like butt and the lighting is broken as all hell.

the pc emulator version is pretty good! it's on high resolution.

VaghoPianist The xbox live version has online multiplayer (coop and dm) so that's why its my favourite version to date. Using a emulator... meh, i dont like it so much. Also glitchy as hell (at least on project64)

The XBLA version was a fantastic faithful HD remake. Don't know what you're talking about 2-T Fru-T. Literally untouched gameplay, but running beautifully AND with online multi.

Man... I remember the first time playing this @ 12 yrs old. It was such a good game for it's time.
