@vondahe
@vondahe 3 жыл бұрын
@@joandsk830 Well, Guyana is also very far from Uruguay in every way, so that's understandable. Before going there, I only knew the country for the world's biggest common suicide. Over 900 people more or less voluntarily drank poison in Jonestown, where an American cult (like Scientology but nominally Christian) led by Rev Jim Jones had set up shop after the authorities started investigating them for tax fraud, as I recall it. Also, it's tiny in population. Your capital has five times the population of the entire country, so their international footprint is minuscule.

You do know, the language, English was made by the British. So you can't say they don't speak "perfect English" when it literally originated from them. They just have different accents with some slang added into it like every other cities/towns in other countries do.
@amazonwarrior7126
@amazonwarrior7126 3 жыл бұрын
@@racyk8579 yes but why is Guyana not allowed to have a different accent, now I am talking about Guyanese English (not Guyanese Creoleise) now all non-English speakers always insult Guyanese English, not only that but they confuse Guyanese creolize with Guyanese accented English, Only the English and Americans never insult us. Also, The idiots say Guyanese English has loads of not English words, very true, but if you look at British English it has 4 times non-English words as Guyanese English, and American English have some foreign words, but not as much as British Eglish, yes I have lived in England, so I know. They never say anything about Scottish English, well try understanding Scottish English.! what about Irish English? they have an accent, and American English also, but we are not allowed to have an accent, that's what I call arrogance and racist.

As a Guyanese .adult, who has completed high school and college in Canada ,I switch my English when needed eg, when in the company of my parents,siblings or other Guyanese I speak Creolese (broken English) when at work( place of employment) I speak English. Most Guyanese have this awesome skill to switch when in the right place and with the right people. In my opinion,Guyana has three languages English, Spanish and Creolese. Its time Creolese (broken English)is recognize in Guyana and abroad.

hey Shellalalallwilliam283, let me educate you about Guyanese creolise, I get so vex when you say its brolen english I have to cool down my self not to say something bad to you, I belive you said it out of ignorence, well Guyanese creolise is Collocual english, slang Guyanese words, Africian words,dutch words, indian words,and spanish words, there is town creolise and country creolise , but its not Broken english, to call it broken english is an insult because as you said if a person can speak Guyanese english, he not going to speak it broken would he? He will always use a slang word. only people in some parts of africa use broken english. Guyanese English is one of the best english in the world,but asses hear creolise and think its Guyanese English. so I hope you learn some thing. amazon warrior

I´m from Barranquilla city, Caribbean coast of Colombia, South America. I studied in Australia for about 4 months, but I had to come back because of my job: at present, I have an intermediate level, maybe an upper intermediate level at English. *However, I need to improve my English communication skills. I have thought about Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, and Guyana, but many people have told me those nations are not good options to learn or improve English (Most people prefer to speak Creole and not standard English), Is that right?* Now I´d prefer a less expensive place and closer to my country. I really appreciate some information about it (Is Georgetown a good option or another city? ... What are the best language institutes, there?) G´day virtual mates. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

You should visit their only-English-speaking-country cousin in Central America: Belize. Belizeans sound like what a child growing up with a Jamaican and Guyanese parent would sound like. lol.

Yes, I have been there. Lovely place. If you go, you need to get rum punch, possibly the best thirst quencher in the world (along with beer - Banks if you're i Guyana). Water melon, local rum and maybe a few more fresh fruit juices, served on ice. If you get peckish, look for a roti shop. Also make sure to get a the shop's own chana chaat. Beware of the hot sauce. When they say hot, they mean hot in the same way as the Thai. When I was last there, you both said hello and replied with "alright", just like the French "ça va". "What up" is bad American influence. Fun fact: There are more Guyanese living outside Guyana than in Guyana, almost all in the US or Canada.

English, depending on what country you're in, will take on its' on personality to fit the people of that region. For instance, I can't understand a Scottish or Irish movie without activating close caption.

*Is it possible to go to Guyana to improve my English communication skills?* ... Actually, I have heard and read that most of the people speak much more the English Creole, so Standard English is not well used for most Guyanese people... I have an intermediate level, I studied in Australia for 6 months, but I need to get better my Listening comprehension en reducing my Latin accent, so I wanna continue improving in a less expensive English speaking nation, like Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago (I´ve always been very interested in these 3 countries). However, many people have told me that from these 3 options, the worst is Guayana for the specific reason I need to go there... Is it right? Thanks in advance... *Greetings from BARRANQUILLA CITY, Caribbean coast of Colombia*

They lied to you, the easiest to understand is Guyanese British English, then Trinidad then Jamaica. This is based on education as well. But most elder Guyanese i know wrote and spoke English very well.
