I used to haaate long grain rice growing up, and I had no idea why until I started washing it. The excess starch prevents the rice from cooking evenly, so the texture was a mushy mix. Wow that’s perfectly cooked basmati 😍 I’m Indian, so let me share how I do it in case it would help someone! U can also cook (basmati) rice with draining out the water method (like pasta) for those of u who (like me🤣) aren’t able to get the water level right. Rinse the rice well like she did and soak for 15 mins. Drain out water n add it to a pan with lots of salted boiling water jus like u would with pasta. Basmati takes anywhere between 10-15 mins. Taste it to see if it’s soft, then drain immediately. Add a knob of butter or ghee n close the lid n let sit for a few minutes before serving. The timing changes for each packet by 2 or 3 mins, so plz stay close by n check the rice by tasting some first time u open a packet of rice. Then u can use the same timing for the rest of that packet.

Nice rice and easy. If you want to try something a bit more special one of these days, add crushed garlic to a tablespoon of oil or ghee, lightly fry the garlic with salt (key is to add the salt to the garlic and not to the rice water later). Then add your washed rice, toast the rice with the garlic/salt for a few minutes, then add the water. I use basmati and add 1.5 cups of water per cup of rice. Let it boil on high until the water evaporates, then turn it down to very low, cover fully, and leave for 15 minutes. If you want to bring it up another level, use unsalted stock instead of water. Esp good chicken stock
