I wish it did have integration with navigation apps. I know it kind of defeats the purpose of it being a Spotify tool, but music and maps are my two essentials when driving.

Discovering that I would have to use my phones 3.5 mm jack to pipe the audio into my car stereo kills the entire niche this was marketed at. If my phone had a 3.5 mm jack, then I wouldn't be looking for an intermediary solution, I would jack my phone directly to the head unit, like I do when bluetooth is an option. They heavily marketed the "old car" solution early on, but the device is simply a glorified remote control for your phone for the most part. I was excited to find a cheaper solution for my 2012 model vehicle with a factory head unit, but alas it's back to Crutchfield for me lmao.

Yeahhhh… I really wish they would’ve put an aux port on the car thing itself. That way you have car thing constantly connected to your car via aux and then your phone bluetooths to the car thing haha. It would just be nice to not have to pull my phone out every time I drive. But I bought it regardless with the sale for 49.99 since I figured it seemed like a reasonable price

Most older cars don't even have Bluetooth...this is more or less just a dedicated display and remote for Spotify. Nothing else.

Right? If I’m connecting aux to my phone everyday then what’s the point of this if you have an older car? And even if your car does have Bluetooth and a screen then just touch the screen instead of looking at your phone. It’s stupid.

@@emperorbean3250 It’s definitely overpriced but useful for people who play music/podcasts while using the navigation on their phone. Also people can use Bluetooth FM transmitters or Bluetooth aux adapters in older cars without Bluetooth. Plus some people find this useful by hooking it up to their PC so they don’t have to switch tabs when changing their Spotify selection.

I got one of these for 25$ recently because they discontinued it, and wow! I can not stress enough how utterly useless this device is. I am absolutely astounded it was initially released for a whopping 90$

I’ve been using it for the last four months and it’s pretty useful. I don’t have to pull my phone out ever time I drive and can scroll through my playlists. It also adds album art + song info which my 2014 Ford doesn’t have. My car’s native Bluetooth control is very basic and lacks any songs info

@3:50 "So if you are hoping to use this as an independent audio device..." This is exactly why I have avoided CarThing. My car is old enough that Bluetooth works for calls, but not media audio. The only way I can get audio in is by plugging my phone into the AUX port EVERY TIME I GET INTO THE CAR. CarThing will not simplify this unruly mess.
