Truly a lightbulb moment when you realise you are a hoister. I always wondered how instructors in these videos can show their takeaway in slow motion and even hold it at the top, as I am only able to get to the top with a dose of momentum, even then it isn’t very comfortable , and forget about holding it. Now after trying moving shoulder few inches sideways while turning, it feels like my range of motion just doubled!!! And the wrist hinge info is brilliant too, I definitely am a reverse rotator, which always felt unnatural. Can’t wait to try this at the range, big Thanks to AMG!

Gentlemen, when I watched the first couple of minutes I started thinking that as someone whose fault is taking the club back outside the target line, I thought this video might not be for me. However, the drills you talk about are drills that will help any takeaway. I particularly like the drill where you use the left arm only. It is, like you mention, virtually impossible to take it away off line. Also makingsure the left shoulder moves behind the ball it vital for all backswings. I have seen other videos of yours where you have hit on these points, but it is always good to get a refresher course. Always appreciate your videos. 🤘 ✌️

This is the only video that i have seen that talked about the inside takeaway with bowed wrists and the player being closed and has to open the face in the downswing. I usually see inside takeaway leading to open face at the top. I am the closed to open player, inside takeaway, shut face at the top, hit blocks by opening the face on the downswing if my timing isn’t perfect. This is enlightening.

Excellent video, truly. I have one quick question. At 10:30 and around 16:40 you mention one arm takeaway for momentum. Generally, do you “feel” the initiation of backswing with left arm (and shoulder), or both arms equally? Or does that encourage more lifting in swing with two arm dominant swing? Thanks!
@AthleticMotionGolf6 ай бұрын
The feel with unique to the player, the movement is what’s important regardless of what you may need to feel
@61JZ7 ай бұрын
Starting at 11:58 for the next 30 seconds for me is the most important part of the video although they are all important. There are some teachers out there who teach this take away which keeps the club face perfectly perpendicular to the swing plane. Sometimes I play well with this and other times are horrible. So this is a fix I’m going to incorporate this afternoon.

What do you think about applying pressure downward on the grip/handle during the takeaway to get the clubhead and shaft to elevate while the hands stay relatively low? On the bad inside takeaways the hands tend to bow (as you mentioned), the hands tend to elevate while the clubhead stays low and swings inside.

I’ve never heard this discussed - at what point should the club head move from being in front of the hands to even with and then behind when viewed down the line? You often hear it said to keep the club in front of the hands in the takeaway vs. pulling it inside and behind the hands. But at some point it does move behind the hands. Where is that cross over and how does the transition happen?

I have a question on the fore arm rotation. Like in the backswing video, you talk about how to move the arm correctly by simply bend the right arm up and elevate a little then the rest is your body pivot. It seems to me that the fore arms don’t rotate as much. But in one of the hack motion golf vid you said the rotate your forearm. So my question is how much actually do I need to rotate the forearm. Thank you!

What characteristics/compensations do pros like Matt Fitzpatrick, Ray Floyd and John Daly (and amateur Bobby Jones) with inside takeaways have so that they can “get away with it”? I personally hit the ball much better now using an inside, up and over swing thought (or turn with elbows connected to obliques, hinge and unwind), which I believe is the only way I can biomechanically repeat my swing and consistently get the low point in front of the ball.
@AthleticMotionGolf6 ай бұрын
In just about anything, if you’re willing to look past thousands (hundreds of thousands in this case) examples of it not working you can eventually find a few outliers. An extreme example would be there are a few people who’ve lived past 100 years old who smoked daily. So it’s clearly possible to do, but I would bet my health on winning that genetic lottery. If you like your swing and are hitting the shots you want, stick with it and stop watching KZbin videos 🙂
@masterp7116 ай бұрын
@@AthleticMotionGolf Well, I was asking a genuine question and provided my own anecdotal experience in an attempt to try and gain a different perspective. I was hoping you would respond with how these players match up their swings differently than what may be considered conventional. Unfortunately, it appears that you took it as an insult and responded facetiously. I generally liked your content, but I must say this leaves a bad taste. Despite your command, I will continue watching KZbin videos from creators such as My Swing Evolution (who advocate for classic inside takeaway) and others who don't, as I live in the USA which is still broadly considered a free country.

@@masterp711 I’m not sure what I said that was taken as facetious. I thought you asked an honest question, and I gave an honest reply. Maybe you can let me know what rubbed you the wrong way? Of course you are free to watch whatever you want.
@masterp7116 ай бұрын
@@AthleticMotionGolf In general, it came across as the expert (of which I am not denying that you are) talking down to the novice (which I don't deny that I am either) for challenging a viewpoint. I will take your word that you didn't mean it to come across that way. The part that rubbed me the wrong way the most was the KZbin comment, which I took to mean that I shouldn't be interested as to the why in the golf swing because I am not an expert. I personally want to know more in-depth so I can give better advice someday if I am in a situation where someone I know wants to learn to play. My personal viewpoint came from many years of trying to do the "right things" conventionally and finally after ditching golf for years, scrapping everything I thought I knew about what makes a proper swing and building from the ground up. I think it'd be an interesting video idea to examine certain pros who are outside what you would conventionally teach and see from a numbers/physics standpoint what they are doing to counteract the negative consequences you would normally see from a high-handicapper with the same swing attributes.
@AthleticMotionGolf6 ай бұрын
@@masterp711 I appreciate your reply, and idea. The difficulty with doing that is there isn’t a sample size to make a meaningful comparison or analysis. No other players swing like the players you mentioned, and none of those players swing like one another. They are true outliers. You also have to keep in mind that not all great players have great swings. Some are were able to compete and win despite their mechanics. There are cases of that in every generation. That notion comes from the players not us. When golf instruction has tried to teach any one player’s swing to a large group, it’s never really worked out.

Is the angle between the lead forearm and the golf shaft (opening angle?) maintained during the early takeaway? Or does it become a little more obtuse?

Amazing how some of the greatest golfers in history came sharply inside and up in the backswing 🤷♂️… bobby jones, Snead, Byron Nelson, hogan, moe Norman…

Look every pro on YT demonstrating a swing with no ball present ALL start by swinging the club forward, harnessing momentum,most without realising it

See, this is the problem. At about 5:35 you hint at what you're seeing in your schools. I'm betting some of your students are trying to recenter and getting it wrong and then all these cascading problems in the takeaway.

Problem? You just described the learning process…

Not one yet has said it’s from trying to recenter.

Although I completely belive what your saying about the shoulder because I litrally just went to watch some slow motion Pro swings and see the shoulder turn exactly as you describe...😄 Is this not what they would call a flat shoulder turn. Everyone talking about getting the butt of the club pointing at the ball in the club across shoulder drill to get more tilt and side bend in the backswing... Is this another one of those yet again 90% of utube golf coaching is full of 💩

Great video but there is no correct takeaway, some people are more out, some people more in and some people are on the perfect plane. Find what works for you, a lot of the old time greats had an inside takeaway from moving the hips and torso to start the swing, they came ott within the swing plane and flush it. I’d also like to see you gurus play on a real course.

There are good takeaways and bad takeaways. Good ones make the rest of the swing easier, the bad ones more difficult. Just because you can find a few outlier with the talent to overcome a bad one, doesn’t discount the hundreds of thousands of golfers who can’t. Just because you’re a great golfer, doesn’t mean you have a great swing or flush every shot. There are tons of examples of that not being the case. Every golfer moves the hips and toros at the start of the swing. Is someone telling you different? “OTT within the swing plane” doesn’t make sense. Over the top describes swinging over the plane. If you plane it coming down, you’re not swing OTT. We’re golf teachers who get to measure and work with many of the best players in the world. We are NOT gurus 🤷♂️. We also don’t teach our swings. Golf teaches would starve if we had to rely on our swings to eat lol. Which is why we go through the effort and considerable expense to share what really happens in the swings of players who feed their families with their swings.

@@AthleticMotionGolf I understand what you're saying but the swing plane is relative to how each individual sets up. Plane is based on a line through the club and elbow at setup with club on ground and hence why everyones takeaway plane will be different. I should have been more clear. OTT swing is just a terminology of people who bring the club inside and plane it coming down which makes it looks like its OTT from a shot tracers perspective. "Every golfer moves the hips and toros at the start of the swing. Is someone telling you different"? Are you sure about that because I've seen videos from your channel that says otherwise? You have a video talking about using the arms to start the takeaway instead of a one piece takeaway whereas most people and pros use a one piece takeaway. No doubt that you have great knowledgeable videos but most of them always compare pros and amateur swings and are all position based which isn't natural and free flowing. It can get too complicated for the average golfer to understand, the average golfer doesn't need to swing like a tour pro nor do they have the time to practice like a tour pro. If they can get their compound pivot correct on the backswing while using the weight and gravity of the clubhead then the downswing becomes way easier with a shift turn then a throw of the club. Regardless of this, there are many different ways to swing the club, there isn't one right way. You guys should definitely upload a golf vlog, I'm sure AMG subscribers would love to see it.

@@JohnnyChanzzz thanks for the reply 👊. It sounds like you might be misunderstanding what we’re saying… There is no good player version of a one piece takeaway. Every player uses the their hips and shoulders in the takeaway. We definitely have never said they don’t. I think if you rewatch the video you’re referring to, you’ll agree. Every player moves their hips, shoulders, and arms in the takeaway. BUT no player moves them together or at the same rate (one piece takeaway). That’s not an opinion. Trying to do so is also why so many golfers struggle with starting their swings off correctly. We don’t teach positions, we teach movement. We show the details of that movement in our videos to relay sound concepts to everyday golfers. All of our instruction is for the everyday golfer. We have 20 x’s the data on everyday golfers than we do pros. Everyday golfers are the best! There are in fact VERY few ways to swing the club well. That there are a million ways do it, is one of the worst ideas to come down the pipe. To prove it to yourself, just look at the parts of the body needed to move during the swing. How many ways does the knee bend? The wrist only moves in two planes. You can keep going. No one is asking anyone to swing “like a tour pro” but everyone can do the same key elements we show that early all tour pros have in common. I can tell you, it sure beats doing the opposite of what good players do and expecting it to work well.

I think you guys have lost touch with reality. A whole lot more people take it inside because they have too shallow a shoulder turn than those who might tilt to much. And the smaller guy is not tilting too much, he is flat out tilting wrong, moving his head towards the target. Remember the idea of keeping your head still?
