You can increase the “Dead Zone” in your emulated controller settings, which means you have to press a least the percentage set to trigger you item or drift. I think it works better with an analog trigger, but I’m not sure…

Dead Zone only works on analog triggers on dolphin, but Troy you can right click the L Button setting in Dolphin and down where the field is where your button is set you can put "smooth(" before your button and ", 0.05, 1)" after your button so it kinda looks like this: "smooth(`Shoulder L`, 0.05, 1)" This will add a 50ms delay only when you press the button to make sure you actually wanna press it.

i got an idea for a mod, its basically last man standing in round 3, being hit by 2-3 items (in round 3 eliminate you, and you shall not cross the finish line, but also have to not enter the 3rd round as the last person. you win by being the last in the last round, but the last person entering round 3 is automatically eliminated from the track and becomes last place and in round 3 being hit by 2 (or 3) items eliminates you as being in the last place infront of the one who went in last into the 3rd round. maybe item boxes only respawn once and you can only take one at a time (without making the others disappear. its probably a bit tricky to program because in mario kart normally the one crossing the finish line first "is out of the match" and like this "being hit" 2-3 times in the last round makes you stop playing until the next track. alternatively you can always have track-eliminations for the last or the last 2 positions every round on every track. they arent eliminated from the tournament, but are out every round as soon as the 2nd last person crosses the finish line.

I think it would be nice to balance the three main classes of vehicles (karts, inside drift bikes, outside drift bikes) based on properties they might have in real life, and then balance individual vehicles for their differences based on these different averages For example: - Karts are just generally larger vehicles and will weigh more on average than bikes. - Bikes accelerate faster than karts because there is a better power-to-weight ratio. - Karts brake faster than bikes because of more contact surfaces. - Karts have better handling than bikes because of more contact surfaces. Inside-drifting bikes have better handling than outside-drifting bikes (an inside-drifting bike is purposefully “taking the tighter line” on a turn). - Karts have better off-road than bikes (but the difference should be *much* larger between heavy and light karts, with light karts having an easier time). Outside-drifting bikes have better off-road than inside-drifting bikes (using the rear wheel for traction). - Karts have better traction while drifting (more contact surfaces). Outside-drifting bikes have better traction than inside-drifting bikes (an outside-drifting bike is purposefully creating traction with its rear wheel on a drift). Off-road, karts and outside-drifting bikes should have an easier time retaining drift than inside-drifting bikes. - If we consider mini-turbo to be a function of drift traction, karts should have an easier time than bikes (generate mini-turbo and super mini-turbo faster). Outside-drifting bikes should have an easier time than inside-drifting bikes (maybe inside-drifting bikes can’t super mini-turbo?). - Braking should have a harsher effect on your ability to drift. Thus, all other things equal, bikes (especially outside-drifting bikes) should have an easier time brake-drifting than karts. - Bikes trick better than karts (better trick boost). - Bikes can wheelie. Taken all together, differences in class should amount to karts being better on turn-heavy tracks than bikes, and bikes being better on straightaway and jump-heavy tracks than karts. Outside drifting vehicles should be better on off-road style tracks, and inside drift should be better in areas requiring tight handling (offset by karts having better traction in general, so karts >~= inside drift bikes > outside drift bikes). Outside drifting bikes excel on tracks with a lot of mixed boost potential (a combination of mini-turbo over inside bikes and trick boost over karts).

Curiously, you named a lot of mechanics that do exist in the game to a small degree. -Karts do have significantly higher weights than bikes of the same weight class. -Bikes do have better base acceleration stats compared to their similar karts and the option to use wheelie acceleration when that is faster. -Karts technically have slightly better handling than bikes on automatic drift. The difference is however made smaller due to the way that bikes get roll rotation while turning. (That happens in real life too although very unstable at high speeds) -Outside drift bikes have higher average offroad stats from the general stat distributions, but the magikruiser nullifies that potential strength. -Karts do have better traction stats than similar bikes. (Only applies on slippery road and offroad types) -Karts actually get less drift rotation at lower drift speeds, but so do outside drift bikes. -Bikes do get slightly longer trick boosts than karts on stunt and flip tricks. -Already obvious but wheelies lol

But with Troy talking about rebalancing speeds (and these mods hinting at a broader balance pass), I think playing up these differences so they’re more meaningful would be a good approach. Magikruiser is a good example of these differences in class not being large enough for individual vehicle differences to matter. Off-road stat is better on average for the outside drift bikes… But Magikruiser has the best off-road stat of light bikes, and Dolphin Dasher is only *slightly* worse than Zip Zip for middleweight bikes. Only in the heavy class is there an appreciable difference. If, when rebalancing all vehicles, the outside drift bikes had better off-road than they currently have (by like, 15ish points), then bikes like the Magikruiser would still be the best [among inside drifters] for off-roading if what you want is an inside drift bike that shores up its weaknesses, but if what you *really* want is an off-road vehicle, then you choose an outside drifter. (And so on down for the other stats)

After watching this, I think the wide or slender vehicles need a subtle mod that makes them either have less hitstun or a little more invincibility, for the pros of ramming (with karts) and stealing items doesn't make up for being walking targets that can't defend/comeback Also, I think it's stupid that outside drift has a delay after shifting from one direction to the other, so maybe a mod for that would be sweet
