About those things: •the hops at the end of the tracks are usually cosmetic, to my knowledge some players do it when they realise they're gonna get the wr (sometimes they also spam the horn too) •usually you want to hold and release miniturbos off the ramps either when doing a trick makes you get a lot of air (think of the last ramp of Waluigi Stadium, where releasing the miniturbo without tricking allows to get much less air, plus you get the boost of an orange miniturbo when soft drifting in the air) or - and this is more important - when you land in the water. You'll see this technique performed when you jump into the water in Yoshi's Island, when going off the first ramp of Water Park, etc Additional things (updating as I watch the video): •in Rock Rock Mountain, you jump over the last glider ramp without tricking to get less air, thus getting faster to the pipe where you have to trick •miniturbo-tricks (releasing a mt when tricking) are VERY fast, and you want to get them everytime you can. Keep in mind they're very hard to get when using a low miniturbo build, but you can get plenty with the current Yoshi-Teddy meta •you won't be seeing babies WRs anymore, even in 200cc. Yoshi's too powerful! Since the Wave 4 balance patch, the Yoshi class has just a little less miniturbo, but MUCH more speed compared to the babies, and the trade-off is worth it. Nowadays, the babies WRs have been replaced by the Yoshi class on Biddy, while the Waluigi class has been replaced by either Yoshi-Teddy/Streetle and such or Luigi-Teddy/Inkstriker and such, depending on how much speed you need. •About Shy Guy Falls, you got it right: the top route is faster, but WAY more difficult! It's usually not worth going for online since you can mess it up badly. The bottom route is much more doable, charging a super mt while hitting the wall is still difficult, but not as much as the top route •yup, the Streetle/Landship class of vehicles is the best for underwater. They're great for traction too (not as much with rollers though), that's why you see them sometimes used on snowy courses as well •Inkstriker is very good on anti-gravity, but the miniturbo is not as good as other vehicles; that's why you see it used on tracks with long anti-gravity paths (Wii U Mario Circuit is almost entirely antigrav, that's why the Inkstriker is used along with the Leaf tires) I hope this helps! 8 Deluxe is much more technical than one may think, and I hope that watching the WRs will help people notice this while giving credit to the incredible time trialers out there!

They need to buff small characters with final wave. I say make mini-turbo stat more character-based instead of part based, change MT ceiling for characters from 5 to 7 or 8, and boost all the small characters' mt.

Although the optimal strategy is the same both for cannons and that last ramp, you don't trick for different reasons: while in RRM you don't trick to get less air, in a generic cannon you don't trick because the trick makes it slower to get to the cannon-speed. So same technique, different reasons

18:59 that combo is used because it has a lot of traction and speed. miniturbo isn't that important on this track but the speed and traction is really useful (this track used standard tires before wave 5 too)

awesome to see you do this and the interest you show in learning the mechanics! i noticed you had a few questions: 1:28:21 sliding before boost ramps is actually faster as you get a much stronger boost, if you pay attention it’s what’s happening on goldmine and excitebike as well 1:51:20 the 2 baby daisy wrs (dp3 and music park) were both set before the balance patch, they simply have remained unbeaten because the tracks are extremely inconsistent but yoshi should be faster on both 2:13:21 this is the same kusaan slide mechanic you see at the end of runs, it helps build up momentum in between ramps (also done on other ramps on that track and on mario circuit). and he does miss a trick on L3, but he’s in a umt boost anyway so it’s not that big of a timeloss

6:36 the reason he bumps in to the wall right there is because if you were to not hit the wall your shroom/speed will spit you out at a bad angle due to the fan. However, taping the wall kills a bit of your speed therefore letting you take a sharper turn

34:29 the reason why he jumps at an angle into that glider instead of driving straight is because it makes it easier to get the fast glider. That glider ramp acts the same way as a cannon glider, in which it is faster to jump onto the ramp instead of tricking or drifting

I recently bought a switch and mk8d is the first game i bought. For some odd reason i only play time trial on Yoshi circuit, i don't know why, only that one i like, every single other track i don't like to time trial

i competed in a national MK8dx tournament in my country. the finals were at a game event and they had 2 spots left for the NR1 and NR2 times on rainbow road. I don't even have a switch and never touched time trials in my life before. Looked up the strats (it was a year ago before the balance updates) and grinded the whole day and managed to get the NR2 spot with a 2.04.446 and got in the finals. Managed to get second in the finals of my national game event!
