Do you want a barrel chest like Arnold Schwarzenegger? If you said yes you need to give this workout a try. We do five exercises that will target that barrel chest look. This is a little more volume than I normally do for chest but sometimes you need to crank it up if you want that Arnold Schwarzenegger look.

John Meadows is an American professional bodybuilder and entrepreneur with an intriguing story. While John now boasts a successful career as an IFBB Pro bodybuilder and fitness company owner, his journey towards the top was extremely difficult.
Growing up, John never met his father, and his mother died at an extremely young age. This meant John only had his grandmother to take care of him. When his grandmother tragically passed away in 1999, John was left alone without his family to support him.
As the years went by, John continued to face new adversities in his life. During his early days in bodybuilding, John suffered from a rare colon disease. After fighting the disease for several months, his colon burst - almost resulting in his death. Luckily, John was quickly rushed to an emergency room where his life was saved. After several months of recovery, John was finally back on his feet.
Coming back into bodybuilding, John used the very obstacles that almost cost him his life as ‘fuel’ to grow stronger. Ever since he recovered from the colon surgery, John has gone on to become a successful bodybuilder, entrepreneur, and inspiration for many people all over the world.

I'd be really curious to see what you would do for a full body workout without using any free weights and in the context of a 2 or 3 day/week program. This is unfortunately the situation I find myself in right now. 🙁

Hey Guys heres the workout... 1) Dumbbell Incline press (bench angle at 30°) 3 sets First set about 15 reps Second is to failure around 15 reps Third is between 8-12 reps so pick weight accordingly unless you're someone like Ken then all of the above are 15-20 reps. Elbows don't flare out. 2) Incline Barbell Bench Press 45° angle 3 sets 8-12 Last set is a double drop set. Points to note don't go all the way down and you come up just to lock out. 3) Dips 3 sets of 8-12 The way John does them is leans forward and has legs forward too (takes a bit of core strength) DON'T lock out here as you're also involving the tricep too much. 4) John Meadows Exercise :) Stay on the dip machine. Arms are a bit short from lock out. You sink down into yourself while keeping your arms straight. Listen to how John describes it. 5) Peck Deck machine 2 sets to failure All of the exercises work the chest but you have to emphasise feeling the muscle. Do not just go through the motion. Focus on what you're working on. Thanks John for showing this workout to us. I am gonna definitely try it today. Stay Strong ladies and gents.

For the longest time, I would lock out with every exercise because I felt like I was cheating if I didnt. But the no lock out way really keeps that tension. My triceps would always get fried before my chest would get a pump. Now I know why.
@jjwp-ql5rv
@jjwp-ql5rv 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, depends on your goals. I hate form Nazis, but stopping just short of lockout isn't bad. He explains it in the video. If you are specifically looking for tension on the chest, there's no need to lockout (for those who read this, that don't know, locking out transfers the force thru the triceps).
@edwardfortae2350
@edwardfortae2350 5 жыл бұрын
I'm 45 years old and tried a few things over the years but to me pumping and not locking out has built me chest well. My problem is the heavier I get I'm more likely to get injured so on regular flat bench I started doing lock out or near lockout. It dropped me from doing 315 for 10 to 275 for 12. I have not pulled my pec once on that exercise since wear as the other I pulled it every few weeks. I think it's good to do both. Mind you I have 20" arms still so something I'm doing is right. ;)
@blackgoblin1004

I'll lockout on my regular sets, then do a mechanical dropset when I don't lockout. Really helps me get that metabolic stress and hit those tough to reach fibers. Best of both worlds
@edwardfortae2350
@edwardfortae2350 5 жыл бұрын
@Gareth Johnstone good idea I just dont like how the smith machine feels except on military press. I strip set my benches throwing a plate off each time I hit failure rather than doing multiple forced reps so for 315 I do 10 grind out 2 throw a plate off each side grind out 6 to 8 throw a plate off grind out 15 to 20 using rest pause. 2 sets of that is all I need I pyramid up my warm ups going to around 80 to 90 percent failure then the 2 hard sets. I do around 20 sets of chest with warm ups but only count 8. The 8 to failure. For me it's the only thing that works. I pour concrete 8 to 10 hours a day and when I go at night have to crush the weights hard and fast or I get nothing from it.

John, I enjoy your video's very much, I want to compliment your training & video's. I also am a newbie to bodybuilding and I started training December 3, 2018, I haven't got a full year on my new "adventure" the reason I call it an "adventure" is because I now the ripe old age of 72 years old, ( was 71.5 yrs. old when I started). I always wanted to train, never took the time before now. I am thinking that your vid's are a bit more advanced than I am, must say though I enjoy them immensely and sure wish I would have started training at least 30 years ago & 40 would have been better! Have you any vid's that are for older gents & newbie's??

John, a question or subject matter for future video, please. I've powerlifted for 30 years, always beginning with heavy, low rep SQ BP DL. No more competition plans. At age 56 I want to begin more bodybuilding while I'm still healthy and strong. With high respect to your training and more experienced bodybuilders I see who are still doing great, I'm having a hard time getting over the hump of change, mentally. Like not beginning back workouts with heavy DL's. Not maxing on BP, SQ. For longevity I know I want to utilize your training and follow your workouts, etc. Any advice or a motivational push to aide me in this direction? Thank you.

I am disabled but if I use a counter weight I rep out in excellent form and I superset with cable cross overs for reps and I really have a lot of concentration in this movement. Going for the striations in the pecs.

You guys jump right into the incline dumbbells or do you do some sort of warmup on the machines? Think I’ve seen you do that in the past.

I don't know what they do personally, but I find the best warm up is to do the exercise you intend to do, but far lighter.

He always warms up a few first and pyramids up. One or two sets to complete failure out of the 4 working sets.

John excellent videos on the channel I've started adding in a lot of the stuff you recommend. What is your view on all over body workouts? Do you think them a good training strategy ie all over workout 3 times a week? If so would you be able to produce a video on this with your best tips and suggestions?

I get better reps when I say "pump" everytime I press up the db's. Don't yell it though, say it very flat, normal but serious. It's the true 🔑

@mountaindog1 What state are you located in for training. The video helped a lot I been hitting chest well since I’m shoulder dominant, but these little adjustments or even not locking out to take work away from shoulders helps a lot.
