I feel like we're living in a sort of golden age of third party lenses these days. Both Tamron and Sigma have stepped up their game massively in the last 10 years or so. So many good ones to choose from!

This may be but, their prices are now comparable and in case of some of the the Sigma offerings equal to that of the camera manufacturers offerings.

Maybe a crazy idea but what about making third party camera bodies? This concept feels very strange but Fujifilm did it with the S3 and S5 pro. They had a Nikon mount. Still have the S3 and use it now and then.

Toni ! Sigma did

@@Audimann The cameras were more than a mount borrowed from Nikon. Early Fujis borrowed a lot from Nikon. The Bodies were almost an exact copy of Nikons or were Nikon bodies, even the position of the AF focus assist light and the AF/MF switch were exactly the same Nikon D100/200.

Julia, great video, it covers all the basis to know the differences within the range of this kind f zoom, irregardless of the brand, I was surprised that you had to step back so far to be able to get a full body shot , so, for events with limited space, probably primes on the range from 35 to 85 would be better based on your demo. Keep up the good work, we are learning from your experience and that can translate in less frustration in choosing our gear (not to mention less money if you end buying something that would not be useful)....cheers

Great job, Julia! This lens is pretty impressive, I guess Tamron’s version of a 70-200 2.8. Serena’s posing is fantastic with great interaction between you and the camera. Did you miss the extra 20mm over a 70-200?
@PavelR24 жыл бұрын
Why do you ask the question Julia? She is usually using 35mm or 50mm primes. You need to ask somebody using 200 prime or 70-200mm every day.
@theockle4 жыл бұрын
I would 100% miss the extra 20mm. I had a Tamron 70-200 2.8 (now have the Sigma version) for Canon EF, so I guess it's something to do with it being a Sony FE mount lens.
@Michael-dx8qz4 жыл бұрын
@@theockle the 70-200 focal length is pretty arbitrary. Lens manufacturers just happened to decide that they want lenses to have this range because everyone else seems to be doing it. It could have been 60-180, 80-220, 50-200 etc.
@theockle4 жыл бұрын
@@Michael-dx8qz yeah, of course. I would still miss that extra 20mm though.
@Ben.Royals4 жыл бұрын
@@theockle Tamron have a shorter focal length on all their 2.8 zooms for Sony compared to Sony's G Master lenses, which are the classic 16-35mm, 24-70mm & 70-200mm all 2.8, with the Tamron's being 17-28mm, 28-75mm and 70-180mm. The reason they are shorter is so the lenses can be smaller than the Sony equivalents but still have that f2.8 aperture, making them better for travellers and also people who dont have the budgets for the Sony G Master versions. All the f2.8 Tamron zooms together are just under £/$3000 where as just one of the f2.8 Sony lenses are £/$2500, you loose out on zoom range on all the lenses and stabilisation but you get a cheaper, lighter/smaller lens.

Absolutely lovely images. This seems to be a great all around tele lens for portraits. I'd love to see a real life comparison between the Tamron 70-180mm and the Sony 70-200mm f4 G OSS... Most comparisons I have seen are between the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 GM lens and the Tamron which is logical because they are both f/2.8. However the price and weight of the Sony 70-200mm f/4 G and Tamron 70-180mm are pretty similar...

This is definitely a superb lens for this kind of work. As an approx 2.3X lens distortion should be minimal for a zoom too and you can see that in the photos. I think Tamron is doing some really good lenses for Sony as Sony owns a significant chunk of Tamron. Tamron as a specialist lens creator certainly know their science and materials really well and these days are producing highly competitive lenses. I, personally would have no qualms about buying and using it.

I had used the Sony G 70-200 f4 with stabilization, for one year. In my case, it was worth it to get the wider apertures and faster shutter speeds and let go of the lens stabilization. The in-body stabilization of my a7iii alone isn't as helpful, of course, as having both body and lens stabilized especially at the longest focal lengths, but I barely miss it when I'm able to capture at faster shutters (and when I think of the better value, bokeh, image sharpness) :)
@GermanViking4 жыл бұрын
Are you keeping this lens? 😁

Thank you so much 😊 As someone else mentioned the A7III has ibis so personally for me, it was enough. In the bottom right hand corner of the video you can see what I see on the screen while taking photos, and when I have the camera up to shoot it is pretty stable the majority of the time. I would think that without ibis in a camera body though, it would be a bit of an issue!

I really liked how your images turned out on your behind the scenes using a 24-70mm kit lense.
