I am 44,and was blessed to see The Righteous Brothers in concert in Reno when I was a kid, just before Bobby was hospitalized here with cancer. Both groups share the same style of talent, timing, harmonies, and the special way they soothe the heart and soul with their music.

Many years ago, my ship was in Trieste. We played the local rugby club and afterwards went back to their clubhouse. The girl who arranged the social part was the wife of the team captain and turned out to be Welsh. She had a bit of a falling out with her husband over something or other and my entire team, plus supporters, serenaded her with this song. It worked. I will never forget the look in her eyes as she watched the boys slowly approaching and then looked to her man. Pure joy.

Here's a fun fact: The Righteous Brothers were the opening act on The Beatles first American tour. Pretty good way to be introduced to America (although they'd already had their first hit, "Little Latin Lupe Lu," which was written by Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers. Then, they left the Beatles tour when an opportunity arose to be one of the "house" groups on a landmark TV show, "Shindig!" on ABC Television. "Shindig!" was the first rock-and-roll music TV show on network television in prime time. The show also launched the careers of people like the Blossoms, Leon Russell, and Billy Preston, all of whom were, at one time or another, part of the house band or the house sound on "Shindig!" A TV show that nobody in my generation will ever forget.

My grandfather, his brother, my grandmother, my great aunt, my uncle and my father worked there at times. From a primetime evening variety show in 1965. These guys were so soulful, many thought they were a Black singing duo. In fact, they took their name from a Black singing group they were touring with before they were famous, singing in small bars etc. They were drinking with these guys after closing time, and one of the guy's n the Black group said, you guys are pretty Righteous man... In those days "Rightouis" was Black slang for cool or excellent. They loved compliment and used it as their name from that point on. They went on to be world famous for the next 30 plus years.
