Perfectionism Can't Stop Me From Sharing My Mesh Bolero!

I'm super excited to share. how I made my breezy summer bolero! But I struggled making this video. Perfectionism was really creeping in and making me double wether I should shae this crochet top or not. I'm doing it anyway, I'm putting out these instructions/guidelines/format so you can enjoy this top too, even though it isn't a perfect structured tutorial. And to really drive the perfectionism point home, you can here my dogs nails in the video and there's even a short clip of odd music that popped p in the middle and I had NO IDEA it was in the video! I hope you still enjoy it and see that it's only human to not be perfect and not to let it stop you from doing the things you enjoy!

I honestly found this to be one of the best, and easiet to understand tutorials I have seen on KZbin. Although I have watched a lot of tutorials and have made several blankets, sweaters, cover ups etc I still consider myself to be in the beginner category and your explanation was so good I know I can whip out my yarn and hook and make the bolero without having to watch the tutorial 20 times or skip through sections where they are over explaining by spending 10 minutes explaining how to do a single chain stitch! thank you so much for this video 😁

I was totally expecting it to be two panels that were seamed at the shoulders - love that you designed it as a one piece! As far as tutorials go, I loved this. It seems like the vast majority of tutorials are on KZbin are geared towards hand holding absolute beginners (which isn't bad, but can get redundant as you gain experience), but this felt like it was geared towards those of us who understand how crochet works and are sitting yarning with a friend about how she made her fabulous top.

I liked these instructions better than a tedious tutorial. I'm under 5'5", short waisted, large busted, and small hipped, so I appreciated you sharing your measurements. The color of the bolero you're wearing looks stunning on you. I used that same color last winter to make a scarf. I have to say it's my favorite. You did a great job explaining.

Just in time! I've been wanting to "build" something like this for one of my granddaughters. I found myself thinking, through your instructions, "Oh....what if I did this or that?" Understanding how to construct the basic shape gives me a place to start and then, add (or subtract) stitches to do my own (if I can)! Thanks, Shannon!

Sod perfectionalism. I would never make anything 😂 you are amazing! You are a pattern designer, no doubt about it. The skills of writing it up are not needed to become a designer, those will come later or never, everyone's different. I love your top, it's absolutely my style. If we were all perfect it wouldn't be a world full of inspirational people. I Love this tutorial!! You could also get the wingspan measurement by making a chain using a jumper you already love and laying it out on the floor ♡

My wardrobe has become more functional over time, jeans, t-shirts etc. You can throw this type of top over that basic look and give it a bit of style. I also appreciate the other part of the tutorial on letting go of perfectionism, sometimes I just get in my own way. 🤔

I hate trying to decipher patterns. I have a decent knowledge of stitches and garment making. I really enjoyed this teaching. Edit: I think the crochet world would benefit from this type of tutorial, especially for people who have some knowledge base and don't need a stitch by stitch video. You might have found an untapped niche.

Great job! I think I would write that pattern line that you sort of struggled with writing as... Ch 4, turn, DC into the top of the DC from the previous row. Does that make sense? 🎉🎉 Thanks for being encouraging, as I struggle with perfectionism and have torn out so so so many rows on the summer top I've started (my first top ever) trying to keep my tension even or fix a stitch, or fix a stitch count! Ugh, I must remind myself as Missouri Star Quilt co. Says... Done is better than perfect!

I’m a bit confused about how you created the sleeves. You said just to seam up the side under the arm home, but how does that lead to such a structured sleeve? When I do that I just get a weird arm hole at the end of my arm with a full wing of fabric under it. I’d like a more structured sleeve like you have.
@ShannonTalksYarn
@ShannonTalksYarn Ай бұрын
When you fold the shape in half and sew from each side in toward the waist, it will create the sleeves. We might actually be doing it the same way. I’m wondering if mine looks more structured just because of it being a stiffer yarn?
