Hi there! Although originally from Melbourne, I have lived in Perth, Western Australia for over 34 years. I have never been to The Bendigo Woollen Mills but I only buy my wool from them, nowhere else. If I have to wait ten days for my wool to arrive, that is just fine by me! Thankyou so much for the tour and I have subscribed to your channel. Happy birthday and take care.

Awesome to find you as another Aussie crochet channel & just subbed. I won a $50 BWM gift card last year so bought the cotton 8ply & 4ply & crocheted a tank top in a beautiful turquoise shade. I also have a WIP of a crochet cabled cardi using the Denim blue shade of 4ply. It's currently in time out as a break from cables which I love but ....!! I wish I could buy their wool but my body doesn't like it, so I have to stick to their beautiful cotton! Can't wait to wear the tank top this summer. I went to BWM about 20-30 years ago.... not sure exactly when but travelling through & it was SHUT!!! I wasn't happy! Loved the Coastal Blue shade best as blue is my fave colour. Liking the look of those scissors & the hand dyed yarns. I'm currently crocheting a bobble pattern blanket using a graph & it's turning out great as a birthday gift for my bestie. Have a fab weekend. 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨

Oh, thank you so much for your sub and also for your lovely comment 🙏🫶 Nice to meet you, Kerryn 👋 Your tank top sounds lovely! A turquoise shade would work beautifully for that. And I saw the denim blue while I was there, and that's a gorgeous colour too, so I bet your cable cardi is looking stunning as well! 👌 My 2 favourites from this video were the purple prism and the Coastal Blue. It really is just a lovely shade of blue ❤️ I'm so sad that they were closed when you travelled through. Hopefully, you'll get another chance to go there again one day 🤞🤞 Hope your bobble blanket is going well, I'm sure your bestie will LOVE it! 💗 Enjoy your weekend, happy crocheting! 🧶😃

I love your colour choices for the six day star blanket, my favourite is the rose pink. I visited BWM in August 2023 and bought some sock yarn which you pointed our early in your filming. I want to knit a cardigan but haven't started yet as I have too many WIP's (sewing, too). I loved the hand dyed skeins. I think you should start with a quick project to get you going (grey shawl?) then do the blanket. Good luck. I can't wait to see how they turn out.

I have a gorgeous blanket that I made from three colours of wool bought at two different craft shows in Sydney many years ago. It was my first JAYGO item. Love snuggling under that blanket. Currently making another blanket for me in cotton. These blankets are for use when sitting in a chair so are too small to use on a bed but just right for a cold winter evening watching a movie with the family. I have had the colour charts sent to me ever since I was looking for a colour to make a sampler blanket early this century. I knew which colour I wanted to buy, but didn't trust my computer screen so had a colour chart sent to me. I then found the matching strands on the card by putting it against the big item that was just my desired colour. Never would have picked that colour on the screen. (It is a UFO having been lost for a couple of house moves.) My girlfriends all use BWM wool and swap their project leftovers. I have made two single bed sized blankets from those 8 ply leftovers. One in hexagons and the other was a Neat Ripple.

Oh Patricia, your blankets sound absolutely gorgeous! I can imagine snuggling in with a good book and just getting cosy for a few hours under your blanket 🥰 Ooh I like the idea of having a bwm swap group! That could be fun! There's also a second-hand buying group for bwm wool on Facebook, too 😊 And I absolutely love a nice ripple blanket. There's just something about them that just looks so neat, and the colour combo's are just endless! 😊 Thanks for sharing, Patricia! 💗

@@MelsYarniverse I'm not knitting or crocheting at the moment due to arthritic hands. I can't keep even tension, I'm a bit OCD. But I have done both for over 50 years. I crocheted for a top world brand for several years but I started knitting for my kids and crochet blankets. I lived in Bendigo for 17 years before moving 4 years ago, but I visit Bendigo often. The company I crocheted for used yarns designed by them but made by BWM(Bendigo Woollen Mill). Beautiful alpaca, beautiful mixes of wool, silk, angora, beautiful cotton, such beautiful yarns. Great video! I’m another who’s never been, only ordered their wool online. I was so disappointed to find out that they ship the wool over to China to be de-lanolinised and dyed before shipping it back. I wish they’d use the remaining wool processors that are still (just) running in Geelong, which isn’t far from Bendigo.
@MelsYarniverse
@MelsYarniverse Күн бұрын
Hiya 👋 Thanks for watching, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for your comment 😊 I spoke with one of the staff members there about their manufacturing process, and they told me that the only reason their wool is cleaned in China, is because their isn't a facility big enough here in Australia that was large enough to accommodate the bulk loads they would need to get processed? Maybe Geelong just isn't large enough to do it, unfortunately? 🤔🧶 It would be wonderful if they were able to keep the whole process based in Australia, especially if the 2 local operators could support each other! Then we could support both of them! 😊

What a wonderful birthday gift, it looks like you had a wonderful time! I didn't know they stocked other brands there, like Cleckheaton and Paton's, so many lovely yarns! Thanks for showing us all that you saw and bought, I've seen those Cleckheaton hanks online at Lincraft and nearly bought some once but wasn't sure how difficult it would be to care for? Hope we get to see your 6 day blanket, I've been thinking about making one as well after seeing Kamryn Cain's with the lovely colours she did, yours look very nice too and it would have been fun picking out the colours for it. I think you call it WIPS when it's a project that you've started but not finished, and we all have many of those, seems to be more common with crocheters! Maybe it should be called HIPS if it's an unstarted item, for HOPE IN PROGRESS???! 🤣
@MelsYarniverse
@MelsYarniverse 17 күн бұрын
@alwayslearning9272 🤣🤣 I love that! HIPS! Ok, I think we can officially call them that from now on! So I had a look at the care details of the Cleckheaton hanks, and it says on the label "hand wash, do not rub cold, gentle machine wash (max 30 degrees celsius), do not bleach, do not wring, do not tumble dry, dry flat in shade, do not iron, dry cleanable" so not too dissimilar from most other fine yarns I suppose. I've watched a few vids on the 6 day star blanket after finding it on Betty McKnit's website, and they all look great! Betty also has variations of her original pattern on her website too which look fantastic - the Aussie confetti and the Ridgey Didge in particular look amazing! I still need to watch Kamryn Cain's video. I'm really curious as to what colours she chose now! 😃

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to type out all that care information for Cleckheaton, that's really kind of you! As others have said I may not ever get to the store in person so getting to see it this way was wonderful, thank you! Definitely watch Kamryn Cain's video for the blanket, hers literally took my breath away, and also a really good one for helpful information as well as another pretty coloured one was OMazingPaige's channel, she explained things really well. Kamryn Cain's also recently made this gorgeous granny square jumper that she made in just 24 hours, couldn't stop thinking about different possibilities after seeing that, also stunning!! 😲 I'll take a look at the ones you mentioned from the original creator, you have me curious about those as well. 😊

Thanks for the recommendations! I watched Kamryn's video earlier, and I'm currently watching Omazing Paige's video now, and they are both gorgeous blankets! Very helpful videos, too, so thank you! 😊 I'll have to look for Kamryn's jumper too, bit curious now, lol 😆

I have the Oriental Flowers in that sock yarn 💖💖💖 oh that bought me back to my wool classing days 😊 I have some Alpaca here but no one to spin it for me *sigh* would you like it? I would be happy to send it over to you, at least it will be used in something beautiful. I have looked at that yarn and oh some of those other colours ... YIKES! I will be interested in hearing your experience with this hook because I have a couple of hooks that I like to use that are the black handled ergonomic and they have deteriorated and feel ICK!!!!!!! to use so I have to work out how to make a material sleeve to go over them and stay put so I can use them again. I wonder if Bendigo Mills would sell those hooks in a set?

Oh, you are so lovely 💗 Thank you for the offer of the alpaca, I'm sure it's lovely, but I'm not a spinner, unfortunately. My mum used to spin, but she had to stop because of her arthritis, and I never had the opportunity to learn, I'm afraid. I'm not sure if Bendigo sell their crochet hooks in a set or not? I didn't see any full sets while I was there, and I can't see any on their website either, so maybe they don't?

Mel, it is sad your mum has to give up something she loved 😞 I was wondering if they would sell them in sets, but then maybe that would not be as profitable maybe? I'll wait to hear what you have to say about them and then consider. I really love my black handled ergonomic hooks, but until I get to making a sleeve for them I am not going to be using them.

Jealous much! I'm limited to their online store, which does not have the range available in store and I'll never get there myself. I would love to know someone there who would shop for me via a virtual visit lol. They could be my eyes and collect all the things I want from the instore range in real time. Probably a good amount of colours from that $10.50 sock yarn at 6:25. I like knitting socks and those are not online. I've used every colour of the multicolour ones available. I've used the Prism Evening Storm you bought in a ribbed knit vest and I love it (not yet to bits). I can be sensitive to wool but love it as outer wear. As long as it doesn't touch my neck (or face) it's fine and far more comfortable in many ways. I've used a different shade in a cardigan. I agree that the Mill's regular range has the best colours to choose from. That Luxury Coastal Blue is amazing. It's so good to see it in your video as the picture on the website makes it look green. It's not the same. Even if it can never compare to looking in store I've got a better idea of what all those colours actually look like from you showing them. Thanx I'm not as fussy about crochet hooks as some people. As long as the heads are shaped well I'm good to go. I've got some from their collection in my favourite sizes (and a big 12mm) which I have no issues with and like them. The different colour handles help me easily identify a size I want too. I've had mine for years. Those scissors are amazing. I love the big loop handles and would likely have a bought a pair myself.

@nefraial You know, that's a great idea about the virtual shopper! Hmmm, something for me to think about... Oh, I'm super excited to use the prism! That Evening Storm is just stunning! I bet your vest and your cardigan look sensational! Bendigo really does have the most deep and luxurious colours available. They are so beautiful. The Coastal Blue was a really lovely shade, and I agree it does look greener on the website. I wouldn't have bought it if it looked the same, but it's definitely a lovely shade of blue. I'm glad being able to see them more closely in my video has helped you. There's nothing worse than ordering yarn thinking it's one colour, and then when it arrives, finding out it's actually completely different. 😒 I just used those scissors, by the way, and they are super sharp and really smooth ☺️

@angelinawilliams5470 oh nice! My mum used to spin, but I wasn't all that interested in it at the time (kicking myself now!😫) she ended up selling all of her wheels and her spinning stuff because she needed the room in her home, so I really m8ssed out there. Spinning seems like a really peaceful thing to do. Have you been doing it for long?
