"They don't see their work as a space to produce perfect things. Rather, just a space to explore." That hit on a whole different level. Loved this piece Ry. Hope you're doing well man and glad you're finding your voice. Keep killing it. 🙏

YES RYAN! Excellent film once again, I literally come on YT to check and see if you uploaded lol. For me, it's so freeing once you realize that perfection doesn't exist. It never existed. I often times let my self doubt get in the way when creating. I find myself thinking "But Casey Neistat wouldn't put music here, Edgar Wright would've added more movement..." and so on. This blocks me from exploring my own voice, and this video helped me realize that. I just finished editing my first vlog 2 days ago, and have been hesitant to put it out but I think it's time to share my voice too :) Thank you once again, keep being you.
@RyanNgFilms

Thank you for the constant support dude. And dude I literally do the exact same thing haha. I'll stare at Neistat's videos and just overanalyze it like crazy. If he didn't do something then it didn't make sense for me to do it. I had to use similar phrasing to him, I think it got so overwhelming at some point that I just threw in the towel and started writing whatever came to my mind. Funny enough, that's when I think my best work started to come out.

Yess dude! This is exactly what I've been realizing the past 6 months for both my videos as well as the things I build in my workshop. Not everything has to be perfect, and sometimes just the act of creating more often can spark new ideas and be more fulfilling. Thank you so much for sharing. Can't wait for your next video ;)

"poetry has no vessel, it's just space. one who reads it, is in the presence of the space. like a beautiful mirage we can't hold on to in a dry desert, we still see it with hopeful eyes. all we need to hope, to find art in something, to create something" this is what i wrote to myself about what poetry means to me but this actually goes for every art form. finding hope gets really hard sometimes but gotta find that inner strength in you and continue honing your skills. i have been in an poetic-art block since the longest time, which really screws up with my morale these days. i keep thinking to myself "past me would've done this differently", lol. thanks for this video Ryan, definitely gotta check out those ted talks to gain back my morale!

As a perfectionist creative myself, it was such a laborious task for me to create a masterpiece but upon watching your vlog, I realize that I need to have more fun. Not everything needs to be perfect at a first try, maybe we need to give ourselves some time to discover and learn what truly matters for us. Really enjoying watching your contents. 😊

I love that Ian. I think the most important thing for an artist to do is to find their voice. It's only when you start to develop your voice that you can explore deeper themes and reach a wide audience. But finding your voice requires you to just create stuff. You'll never get anywhere without starting.

Still struggling with this sometimes, but sometimes I do accept the imperfection. When you're a young artist that is currently studying to get better and understand art, you keep trying to reach that perfection, and sometimes we just explore and we know these tools to make our art more beautiful or get next to what we want, and by exploring using the tools and not only using the tools to get something, you make real and meaningful art.
@RyanNgFilms
@RyanNgFilms 2 жыл бұрын
I honestly think it's a constant battle, even if you're an established artist. A lot of people deal with a perfectionist mindset, but I think it's all about practicing not being a perfectionist.

To everyone who thinks "well he didn't make the clothing so he's a fraud". That's like saying "oh van Goh didn't make the canvas, so he isn't a real artists". It makes no sense, taking something plain & turning into something cool or better (in your own opinion) is all that matters. FYI that's how 90% of designers or artists make their come-up. A lot of big designer or clothing manufacturers still use illegal forms of making material, like nike or balenciaga.

I relate to this because I have a huge problem with perfectionism myself (still working on my first book, I should have been finished with a long time ago). I can acknowledge the problem but I feel like I can't fix it. I need to be 100% satisfied with my work. And I'm not even trying to satisfy all my future readers (bc I know that's impossible) but i need to fulfill my own expectations in every possible way. It feels like I need to make it perfect (my version of perfect) and there is no way around it. Like I would go crazy if I didn't, I just have to.
@RyanNgFilms
@RyanNgFilms 2 жыл бұрын
I feel that dude. Totally undersand where you're coming from. I mean I'm sure it can work the other way around too. George rr Martin spent 10 years working on Game of Thrones. I guess it just works differently for everyone. I just wanted to share what I've been going through, At least for me, not overthinking things and not being a perfectionist has been a huge weight off of my shoulder.

"just a space to explore" is honestly a great way to put it. I'm constantly afraid that if I'm not overthinking or striving to extra perfect a particular thing, or if it took less time that it usually does, there must be something wrong. Literally my first thought is always "wait- it can't be _that_ easy" and that's how I spiral into making it difficult for myself hahaha. There are cases in which rethinking an idea or recreating a draft from zero turns out to actually be a good idea, but it's just tiring when you start to convince yourself it's a requirement for your work process, and start to second guess things. Having the idea of it just being a space to explore, meaning the rules are never the same, and the steps are flexible, makes it easier to stomach. Another great one Ryan!
@RyanNgFilms
@RyanNgFilms 2 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness I think the same thing. Every time I think fo something right away I always second guess myself because I thought that great ideas can't come so easy to someone like me. I also agree that rethinking ideas can be good. Maybe it gets dangerous when your head just goes into a spiral, you never want to be there creatively. But if you're redoing things and remodeling your video and feel like you're getting somewhere then def keep going.

One thing that you’re missing from your own analysis-look how proud he is of the sweater. He doesn’t seek out the audience approval. He declares (from a place where he can get no real objective feedback) that maybe it’s museum worthy. Is that trump-level arrogance? Maybe. But he doesn’t strike me as arrogant. No. He’s proud of what he/they made. He doesn’t need external likes. He drives his own sense of self satisfaction. You mention vangough-he knew his paintings weren’t all good. He knew some of them were. But he also knew it is subjective. Some people complimented some pieces and others were derisive. He was disinterested in their opinions. He sought his brother’s approval but few others. Ryan, your stuff is unique and it’s a terrible version of Niestat. Thank goodness because I tired of his voice and endless self-promotion long ago. You’re the only vlogger I follow (and the only person I support on patreon) because your storytelling style is innovative and enjoyable. I’m enjoying watching you create.
