seriously why is this video so underrated to the amount of actual knowledge required for basics of rebuild, i mean this 18 minute clip is packing some true stuff

Top man!! I bet engine builders are pulling there hair out! This information is like gold dust! You basically got to pay for it. Mechanics majority of time tell you what they want you to hear and off they f**k!! So thank you so much for the time you've put into this video. 😁😁😁

Extremely talented, i remember my brother spending ours on the dyno by Herman feom the morning trying to get his golf just right. We talking 10 years back and those days our mk1 golf's had baffle sumps on to help to keep oil in the sump and prevent splashing around. Excellent Excellent information.

This is my take on information that was given... You cannot always blame the person building the engine. There are many factors to consider. The engineering side of the engine build at times can be a problem and I've been there before, as an example: I built a m50b25 to spec adding about 2 deg of torque to the bolts to hold things properly together and told the customer the piston hights are not all the same(was decked by engineers) The customer said just put it in, i asked about the crank he said they said it's fine don't worry use standard bearings i said okay, i told him the cylinders wasn't honed he said he knows but it's fine so i told the customer there are loads of inconsistencies but he said assemble the engine and i did what was asked. The engine ran good sounded good but didn't last long the worst words (raise the limiter). I asked how much oil did he put in and he said the amount he saw on the net but couldn't say exactly if it was right because some forms say so much and the othe say so much bear in mind its a pop car permanently at high revs and i explicitly said add about a half to a pint more oil and he didn't. Long story short after sitting on the limiter it ran a bearing and i told him it's because of insufficient oil in the sump. So i was indirectly told i build junk but all the other engines i built he beard witness to that are still running well. When it comes to tuning, so many people tuners are quick to blame the person who built the engine and some will not and will check what could be the problem. Many of the vehicle owners are also to be blamed because of that gie nog a bietjie and then something happens then it's ny hy kan mos dink blah blah blah and some tune just for WOT which is dumb in my opinion. I was trained on tuning by a very cool guy humble in all ways and told me some people want to rev high for street cred even though they not making power there. Alot of what was said is true but too many variables to take into consideration before blaming the bra building a beast in his garage.

First time a hear someone discuss issues knowone bothers discussing or checking. I can add the following : If you build engines own a bore mic and outside mics as it enables you to measure accurately and more importantly ovality which you'll find in alot of mains and bigends. Plastic gauges are better than nothing but not ideal. I wouldn't run bearing clearances as low as 28um but would suggest a min of 40 -45um on an Ave 4cyl. Grinding cranks has its drawbacks as most ground cranks ive measured have upto 20um ovality .I would suggest no more than 5 . So to conclude I would torque everything without bearings inserted to check size and ovality before anything if a new build engine.

This is good stuff, Thanks! I renovated an old ford diesel. Put new bearings in conrods and crankshaft. Camshaft bearing was like new, so I didnt change them. New oilpump as well. Start up and idling for some minutes. Engine seized. Turnsout the oil pressure dropped at the camshaft, so mains didnt get pressure. So maybe do all bearings at once?

Thank you for this video. I have a low revving engine. Its a daily driver. I have the crank out for block reboring. I just plastigage the rod bearings and all are between 0.0015 and 0,002 inches. within spec. visually the crank journalss and all bearings look great. there is the #4 Rod Bearing with a slight scratch but finger nail does not catch on it. that crank journal location has a little discolored spot but smooth. The Machinist mixed up my main bearings, what should I do? Thanks

It’s the combustion stroke that pushes the piston down not the crank, why did they show some guy oiling the outer of the bearings shell?that’s a no no. Dry sump is the answer for racers, expensive tho. Excellent video

Nope no problem oiling the outside of the shells. Old wives tale. That guy doing it in the video is Jay from Real St, built the fastest and quickest drag and drive 2jz in the world, so he knows what he's doing.

Oil film thickness. Hot engines need more viscosity. Turning up the boost….more load on the oil film….need more viscosity. 10w50 or 10w60 and your engine will last forever

replace engine bearings... BUY A NEW CRANK LIKE I DID.. DUH... REBUILD THE ENGINE RIGHT PEOPLE!! COMMON SENCE!!! im rebuilding an engine that probably not rebuilt alot.. Honda D17A2 single cam VTEC ( removing EGR system getting teh non EGR thermostat plate/housing... No EGR... oil catch can ( for if i ever turbo on a new motor) but first gonna be NA.. D17A2 Block ( decent shape 145k miles) had rod knock/piston slap *cleaned and honed to new pistons spec) 2 heads arp head bolts , arp bolt lube ( head bolts, rod bolts etc.) 700HP rated H beam rods, + brand new crankshaft and D16ZC (DOHC) High Compression Pistons ( I want 11.5:1 if possible!) 11:1 minimum ( 12:1 prefered) with a 7000 RPM Redline ( either stock redline or just under for longevity) new oil pump (racing higher pressure) timing belt water pump gaskets set etc.. racing commetic headgasket and a couple stock MLS gaskets..

Just wrong dirt and fractionally excess bearing clearance do not cause bearings to instantly fail those sorts of issues cause bearing's to become worn prematurely. But tuning done in the wrong way can cause bearings to fail in even the most perfectly built engine. Guy probably blows up engines left right and center and need a way to put the problem on someone else.

Fuck sakes” slight bearing knock”. No such thing. Would weld to crank so fast you wouldn’t know GTFO. These engines are junk I’ve had a L96 6.0 tuner ran it for half hour with ZERO oil pressure it was blocked off in the pan. Had to get crank ground .010 and 2 new rods. Yall are wasting your time with these 6/4 cyl..

You’ve contradicted yourself! How does the brg wear if it’s never to touch the crank!! Of course they touch that’s why coated brgs were created! Cold starts r prob the worst But yes brgs and crank touch it’s sadly unavoidable
@samthesr20man
@samthesr20man 2 ай бұрын
😂😂😂 You're a bit thick eh, the film of oil obviously gets compressed and loads the bearing surface.... I wonder what that would do over the span of a couple of hundred million times... Oh it may just squash the bearing ehh?? The coating isn't for that ethier 😂😂😂 it's to allow oil to flow better causing less friction and therefore heat....
