I just now heard this song and this band for the first time, Thanks to Jodie Foster's new movie on HBO called 'True Detective: Night Country. The minute I heard the singers voice I knew I had to find out who is this!! The woman singing has a haunting, amazing voice. I was taken back somewhere else in time. I'm a new FAN and subscriber! Avalon Young lol. I know! I've seen him live 3 times since 2012 and there is an unbelievable difference. His earlier work is so different from now. The first 2 albums were dark and hauntingly beautiful. Queen and no shape are beautiful in a much more positive "F*** you, I am who I am" kind of way. He is my favorite artist and I am just happy that he seems to have healed in many ways. I get to see him again May 19!

i found this on that genius website that tells you the meaning behind lyrics. I cannot express how complete this made me feel. I've been so incredibly drawn to this song and now I know why lol . . . . Featuring Mike Hadreas’s hushed voice and a simple electric piano, “Die 4 You” puts a spin on a common trope found in love songs, sacrificing life for a loved one. Hadreas told The FADER that this song is about erotic asphyxiation, a fetish where people restrict their oxygen intake during sexual activity. He explained that “It’s a metaphor for giving all of yourself to someone else. You can push it so far that I might even die and that would be OK.”

I love seeing all those who’ve found MHxPG via other platforms. The point being is…you’ve found his genius. True art. Fine art. The purest kind that exudes from his every pore. No was lucky to catch him early with his Learning album. He has glowed…no, illuminated with each release since. Every album is a bigger bolder step into a future that solely bends to his shape.
@Vesperon7 жыл бұрын
(Copied from my review of the album "No Shape", on Google Play Store) Thank you for the new album! It's a work of art. Some people may not understand it, but... you're speaking my language! Raw emotion. I heard hints of Explosions in the Sky, Patrick Watson, Cher, Boards of Canada, Air and a ... jazzy sexy something, while still holding true to your unique sound. My favorite tracks are "Die 4 You", which made me want to sing along in the first 5 seconds without ever hearing the song, and "Run Me Through", with it's catchy Rhodes synth hook. Throughout, Perfume Genius has a great sound, vocals coming in crisp and clear, with broad harmonies and a great mix to the rest of the album. His best album yet. This music video? Artistic! Love the slow mo to fast...mo stuff. In the second half of the song he uses his voice like an instrument. It sounds like a modified trumpet! Hot stuff Mr Genius
@lukas41122 жыл бұрын
“Each and every breath I spend You are collecting” The double and seemingly contradictory meanings of it. One meaning: you’re making out with somebody, they’re collecting your breathe by breathing it in themselves, becoming one being formed through love and passion, sort of like what Plato talks about in Symposium. The other meaning: like money, you spend and someone collects. This can be seen a a transaction of sorts instead of a process of becoming whole. Someone collecting another’s breathe therefore becomes a detriment. In a literal sense, it can even mean death. My interpretation of this song is like being in a relationship that you’re super passionate in, being so in love with someone that you don’t care if they kill you because the feeling of becoming one with someone is so warm and alluring.
