i purchased oud wood back in 2009 when it was lesser known and it came in the original dark black amber bottle. I wore it religiously and it became my signature scent. i got a whole days worth of longevity and the sillage was incredible(only using 3-4 sprays). i received compliments left and right. I left a trail everywhere i went. The scent would also linger in my car and on furniture i would sit on. The 100ml bottle lasted well over two years. Later in the mid 2010's when TF released the oud collection(grey charcoal packing) i purchased another bottle and immediately noticed a significant difference. It had lost its deep intense richness from the first spray. the longevity was gone and the sillage wasn't there. There was without a doubt a reformulation. Truly heart breaking, it was the first signature i fell in love it. Its disappointing to know that its no longer on the market

I recently tried Oud Wood for the first time and I really like it. Classy, easy to wear and beautiful. It does seem to fade to a skin scent but I still could noticeably smell it on me the next morning and my shirt still smelled lovely. It does linger and is a great smell. One of my favorite so far

Oud wood is one of my signature scents. I'm on my 3rd 100ml bottle. It's absolutely stunning. I don't seem to have performance issues with it. 7-8 hours respectively. With about 6-8 sprays. I can smell it on my clothing 3-4 days later when I do my laundry. The older batches lasted longer, 10-12 hours, I have some decants of the older batches and I save them for special occasions. I do think people go nose blind to it and those are the people that think it doesn't last. I can wear it all day and when I come home, my wife can still smell it on me. Tom ford atomizers don't spray as much as a dior atomizer, so even at 6-8 sprays, you're probably not wearing as much as 4 sprays of any dior. Keep that in mind when judging the performance
@snowliferwb2 жыл бұрын
@@HigherScents what? 6-8 sprays of oud wood in volume isn't very much actually. It's less than 4 sprays from any dior bottle, nishane, mfk The atomizer on tom fords don't produce much in comparison. About half the amount. So 6-8 sprays is the equivalent of 3-4 sprays of something like dior or MFK.

I consider perfumery an art form in the same vein as a painter, chef, sculpter etc. So for another party to create their version of a hugely successful piece of art whatever it is is pretty inevitable. We see it in almost everything in life. A simple example I have given in the past is grocery shopping. A chef at Mctvities created the hob nob,, since then every single supermarket has copied and created their own version and some are better then others and by and large they are cheaper than the original (sound familiar). If you think about it what successful product has not been copied in some way across any industry? So I don't worry too much about it,, if a fragrance is fantastic it will continue to sell and a few "inspired by" releases may even increase the desirability of the original. So, it should not happen but it does and will never stop. Lasltly I have a 10ml of Guapo, great fragrance. I also like watching your very unique style of reviewing... Lyric man smelling like bubble bath was a good one for me,, i thought it was just me that felt that way. 😁

Perfume is a different kind of art because an artist can use contrast of beauty and ugliness to create strong emotions in us but perfume is only beauty and the pursuit of beauty it’s as we call it in french un acte d’esthète it’s about aesthetic…
@gazzap66642 жыл бұрын
@@zenttofrizzy8479 disagree... there are countless examples where a generally iunpleasant note is used with other notes to create something that challenges our noses. Dont know what "diffetent kind of art means"? Different from what and how are you defining the normal in art? It takes years of traoning and a fair dose of talent to create something beautiful in perfimery as it does in painting, cookery, carpentry and pretty much all artisanal persuits as I said. 😁.

I agree! Hi Aaron, It used to be stronger in the gold label bottles, I own a 2007 and 2012 bottle. I also had a 2014 one that I didn't like that much but aging is a thing with Oud Wood, to me the newer ones have a strong anise accord that gives it a rubbery smell, that smoothens out when aged.

First off, I'd like to say that I love this review, and your reviews in general. It offers an unique perspective you can hardly find nowadays, when you're not interested in the typical "Get those 5 to drop panties on Friday night". Regarding the scent, it was one of go to fragrances, even when staying at home and I just wanted to appreciate a masterfully blended perfume. I do think that the old bottles with the golden label used to have much better performance. The time I bought this fragrance was in mid 2021, and to be quite honest, the performance is insulting, especially for the asking price that keeps getting higher and higher. I'll always appreciate master perfumery and the art of blending something this good, but nowadays I feel that whenever I'm paying for Tom Ford, I'm paying for marketing, not perfumery. It's disappointing.

Great review. I just received a new bottle from Aug 2021 batch that appears to be one the first since the lilial removal reformulation, as butylphenyl methylproprianol is no longer a listed ingredient like it was earlier in the year. I noticed the addition of tocopherol to the ingredients as well. Not sure if either of these changes will have much impact, but we'll see. Smells great either way. I have a few Creed's that were post-lilial removal as well, and everything seems to be good with them, so I assume the perfume industry has found a suitable replacement.

They discontinued most of the cosmetic products like Body Wash, Deodorant, etc. Which is kind of a shame. I do have an original Oud Wood vintage bottle and it's not really different in my opinion. Universally people always say any newer vintage of any perfume is weaker regardless of brand. I don't know if this is a psychosematic thing, or that fragrances that have longer to age get stronger over time, or what. What's your take, Aaron? I'm sure people will eventually start saying your older bottles are stronger, better, etc. despite formulations staying stable.

TF Oud Wood’s performance is hit or miss on my skin. Sometimes it is present well into the 8-10hr range, but sometimes it disappears within the 3-4hr range. Projection however is consistent where it stays within an arm’s length throughout. Got my 100ml bottle 2yrs ago. About other perfume houses releasing their own version or interpretation of Oud Wood.. Just as all designers have their own version of Chanel’s LBD (little black dress); a simple non colourful, non extravagant high-end black designer dress. It was so iconic in women’s fashion back then that it created its own category of dresses as more and more designers released their own version of the LBD. TF’s Oud Wood is to fragrances as Chanel’s LBD is to fashion. Both icons! Lol To me, Oud Wood is the perfume industry standard for ‘the non-animalic western designery oudy fragrance’ or at least it should be! Lol so I’m fine with other houses releasing their version of Oud Wood. Considering the amount of designer and niche perfumes released bearing close resemblance to Oud Wood, does this not show how widely appreciated Oud Wood is? I mean even if it were to get to Creed Aventus’s breadth of inspirations and copies, at least that also means more noses will get to appreciate and experience the brilliance of Oud Wood for themselves. Imagine if the Oud Wood scent becomes mainstream.. imagine diversifying the predominantly blue, sweet clubbing, and musky floral types of mainstream scents with Oud Wood? Yes please! Lol

I've had an old bottle for years now, maybe 8 or more. It wasn't quite as long lasting as Tobacco Vanille I bought at the same time but it projected well (someone walked past at work about 10m away and said god that's amazing). It never seemed to last anywhere near as long and with TV I could always smell it the next morning or even in the afternoon if I'd showered. It stayed on my clothes for 2 days or more too (obviously not tshirt/shirt but coat/hoody/sweatshirt/jumper). I bought 100ml of TV a few years ago when the original ran out and I feel like it's half as strong. I've some recent TF decants for testing and they seem to be similar in terms of not being as strong lasting. They project pretty well. I find my strongest TF now is black orchid, that seems stronger than all the others, including a Neroli Portofino from a few years back.

Im guessing that its a well built oud / cardamom base (30 or more materials) that acts as the main heart thats made up of aroma chemicals (some naturals). Then by “notes of sandalwood” im assuming that rather than incorporating a full sandalwood accord they use notes like, Bacdanol, Ebanol, vertofix etc. Im sure it provides more flexibility in terms of what kind of sandalwood notes you want rather than that full creamy sandalwood accord.

Tbh in my experience in 2024, Oud Wood has decent performance by my standards. It's the perfect strength for the office. I bought mine from Nordstrom though, it's possible the people saying it has performance issues bought counterfeit bottles. It's so amazingly beautiful and despite being so absurdly expensive I'm yet to find an "inspired" fragrance that comes close to the same blend quality AND wonderful scent profile. I have to say, Fucking Fabulous is my signature scent, but I can't deny that Oud Wood is objectively so much more of a masterpiece than FF.

This fragrance is amazing! I bought the original and after bought the clones so I don't waste the original. I haven't had a chance/pleasure to smell your fragrances yet but one day I hope to try all the ATH line. I've heard your unique abilities to create fragrances is par none. Just wondering what I should try 1st.

Hello Aron. Can you please make a video about most 'legal'/safe fragrances for health. Best brands by that variable in your opinion. I would be very thankfull.

Absolutely love your review of Oud Wood. Mine is 2017 and is a beast mode performer in all seasons. I have Animalix which I love and contemplating getting Carbon. Is there any difference between the 2 if any. Why the name change?

Man im trying so hard to find a wood scent like abercrombie/fitch and tom ford but from what im hearing they dont last even 5-6 hours. Just bought 8 samples from xerjoff coming in the mail so im hoping i like one of them but i would just LOVE a go to recommendation for “wood” scent. Couldve sworn A&F has this similar feel to mahogany and taekwood

Just bought tom ford oud wood, I am certain it has performance issues, just got creed aventus at the same time and creed in my opinion far exceeds oud in performance. Also got savage elixir parfum, and good lord that is 2 sprays needed only and lasts an unbelievable length of time.

Love this scent! Im also curious how would you like oud venture by Novellista which is for me a pretty good clone of TF Oud Wood and the price is really good too.

The term 'oriental' is not offenive, to whom would it be? I have a nice story. A friend of mine used to sell perfume oils from Al-Haramain. He had their dupes of 'Oud Wood' and 'Black Aoud' from Montale, and by accident he mixed them together. The result was fascinating. It smelled so awesome. Maybe somebody over here has both of the originals and could try that on his arms. I would love to get a feedback.

One of my all time faves! Never gets old. I thought it was beast mode- and I have darker skin that eats up perfume. Maybe it’s has got weaker after time!

I always thought Oud Wood smelled like a mop bucket 😂 I'd much rather wear Onyx, Alexandria II, or even Royal Oud. But kudos to the Tom Ford brand for making oud cool back in the day.

Alexandria II is overly strong and overwhelming hurts your head so that’s an opinion

Alexandria II may be the most amazing scent I have ever smelled.

Waiting for my paycheck to get the 9x10ml set from you Aron. I just bought 5 mancera fragrances, 2 oud fragrances from them and ofcourse aqua wood which I love. Also added quercia from acqua di parma. Can't wait to smell your fragrances :) .

Years ago probably 7 years ago, I tested Oud Wood and Tobacco Oud when I was in Duty Free, I preferred Tobacco Oud but always felt Gucci’s Intense Oud was better than Oud Wood. But I thought at the time both were really strong, now they’re weaker.

I love oud wood but is too expensive in my opinion, I dont have a problem with clone companies they usually charge a fair price for What You pay but large companies charging as much as the original I have a problem with that. When a large perfume company is taking on someone else's creation that tells me there is a lack of creativity with their perfumers, if you can't come up with your own creation you should not be a perfumer in my opinion. You Aaron are one of the best new innovators in perfumery that is unique and masterful keep it going bro!!!

I smelled this eau de parfum about a week ago. My expectations were really high, because of all of the favorable reviews out there, including this one. In reality and honestly, roughly 400,00$ for something that essentially smells like pine sap is ludicrous, to say the least.

I would really like for you to do a review on a Mancera Aoud Lemon Mint as it is 1 of my favorite fragrance for summer and i usually hate them. I mostly have the same taste as you do, sweet, dark , playful and sexyy

I generally always prefer the OG, since the dupes can’t compare qualitywise, however, if the OG start to have performance issues by being reformulared and watered down, for greediness, I might go for a dupe if it has better performance.

You should review Carved Oud from Thameen - which I find smells how Oud Wood *should* smell..
