@starskunk29 күн бұрын
With the way Survivor handles non-transferable power/idols, even if the advantage itself is nontransferable, the token/clue representing it can still be passed off to another player, as there are valid reasons to do so - aka if someone is snooping through stuff for proof someone has idols/advantages, you can hand off said advantage to someone else that is not suspected of having it and have them hand it back later. The only rule is that while it can be given to someone else freely by the owner, the receiver MAY NOT use it if it specifically says whatever it does cannot be transferred, and as it may not be stolen, if the original owner asks for it back, it MUST be returned.

By taking out Michaela too soon, Jay loses Hannah as a number, since she wasn't going to work with him after he'd just left her completely in the dark, and in saving Bret, he just gave all the numbers to the Gen X + Hannah/Adam side, because Bret wasn't going to side with Jay and Will over his number one ally in Chris

Heidi in Season 44. When the merge tribe was split and she had the power to control a vote. If she had either forced Lauren to vote for Jamie or vice versa, YamYam and Matt could have taken that as a signal to vote for one of the two, making the votes 2/3, saving both YamYam and Matt and taking out a majority alliance player (while the third alliance member won immunity). zit feels like the producers had that move in mind when designing the episode, but instead Heidi threw a vote on YamYam. @XanderMatthews-nv9zf8 ай бұрын
That’s actually really easy to counter from the Ratu side of Brandon, Lauren and Jaime Lauren’s extra vote undoes basically anything Heidi can do, if Heidi plays the advantage against Jaime or Lauren, Lauren is passing that advantage to Brandon eliminating Matt or Yam Yam 4-2 or 2-2-2 and getting Matt on a revote.

The problem was that it made him so blatantly the biggest threat on the board at final 4 that he had to win one of two challenges, and he had done nothing all season to instill confidence in his challenge prowess. I think the video lays it out well- if he had taken out Cassidy or Gabler at final 5, considering they’re the ones who beat him in the final challenge and firemaking, he would have had a better shot. I disagree with the Malcolm assessment. If he didn't say Phillip, the alliance would be just voting out Sherri at that point instead as she wasn't part of the original alliance, and the only potential person of the seven who might have flipped to the three amigos if some other twist of fate saved them. If this was done prior to Tribal, and it forced the entire tribe to scramble and become paranoid, then it might have caused more chaos. But at tribal, it's always the easy vote. i think at that point in the game, Malcolm just wanted to show Phillip that he wasn't Boston Rob and he was never in control of the game like Phillip thought he was. Malcolm knew his days were numbered because of his threat level and just wanted to outlast the joke character.

I would actually push back against Malcolm’s move being an incredible move. Like you said, Malcolm neutralized his own power during the move that predictably kept the status quo the same and got him booted next. To me an incredible move that backfires is something that maximizes the odds for victory, yet still ultimately fails because in the long run the worst case scenario still happened. If someone increases their odds from a 4-1 chance of losing to a 5-1 chance of winning, but the one still happens that makes them lose then I don’t consider that a bad move. It’s just that the lower odds prevailed. Malcolm undercut his own maximization during the move, thus it ended up not being incredible. It was a flash in the pan. Exciting to see for a split second, but nothing to show for it after it’s done.

Therefore on the re-vote, the majority has no choice but to vote for one of those 3. But I agree with Peridiam that at F6, playing the Idol for Owen (thus making Karla waste hers), he fully commits to Karla being gone at F5 and puts himself in this timeline where he becomes the obvious threat to win the jury but is still not favored to win any Immunity Challenge and the biggest fire-making threat (Gabler) is still in the game.

He made a good move taking out Cody...it was his move afterwards that sealed his fate, because judging by the track records in challenges, it was a safe bet to assume that either Owen or Cassidy would win the final 4 immunity, so by letting both of them stick around there, he just decreased his odds of getting himself to F3. What he needed to do was follow up the Cody move by sniping one of Owen or Cassidy at 5, and that gets him a better chance of making final 3, because either he wins his way there, or whichever one of Owen and Cassidy sticks around at 4 wins it, in which case he goes into fire, and in both scenarios, I'd say having an injured Karla around greatly improves his shot at making endgame, because he can definitely beat her in an immunity, and with a broken hand, not like she'd be particularly skilled at making fires

Taking out Cody was not a good move, even with retroactive mental gymnastics. Jesse wasn't looked at as a strategic force and voting out Cody was an act of desperation that left him vulnerable as was well illustrated in this video. Jesse needed to play a better game, and instead actively chose not to. How did he fail to account for all of the other variables, including playing the idol when he didn't need to? I would argue that even if there was a viable path to the end for Jesse that voting out Cody was unnecessary had he only played smarter. Cody would likely not have won the final challenge and it would have came down to Jesse and Cass in the end regardless. Gabler beats Cody in fire 10 out of 10 times. The only thing Jesse did in the eyes of the jury was vote out Cody. And the thing that everyone seems to gloss over entirely is that everyone else would have wanted to take shots at Cody moving forward too. You can map out many paths to the end for Jesse leaving Cody in as a shield in front of him while simultaneously having 2 idols and several allies. You can map out one path to the end with one variable to it by taking out Cody here. This is an illogical argument. Jesse didn't play well in the end game.

I VEHEMENTLY disagree that Jesse taking out Cody was in any way a good move. It is arguably the dumbest move of the new era (and probably in the top 10 of all time). 1) Cody was not a lock to win if it’s him and Jesse sitting at the end. Jesse’s resume was stacked and he could make a pretty good argument that Cody was just doing whatever Jesse told him most of the game. 2) taking out Cody took out his only route to Final Tribal. Cody would have taken him to the end if Cody won the final immunity (which he probably would have). Without Cody, Jesse’s season played out exactly how many of us predicted the night he blindsided him. 3) this isn’t revisionist history for me. The night of the Cody blindside I called what would happen. I am shocked at the people who try to paint this move as anything but terrible.

Cody absolutely crushes Jesse at the end from my point of view so a lot of this doesn’t hold up, it is always better to swing for the fences then wait too long to make a move And truth be told had he gotten a final immunity challenge like simmotion he could have pulled it off, Cassidy and Owen really only excelled at the balance challenges If Jesse doesn’t take Cody out then Karla likely gets blindsided actively inflating Cody’s resume

And given his lack of challenge ability to that point, relying on winning the final challenge or building fire was absolutely unlikely. So he sabotaged one of his 3 paths to the end by voting out his closest ally, all for classic “new era resume padding”. Had Jesse made it to the final 3 with Cody, I think it’s more likely he wins. Again, we will never know for sure, but it was more likely he can beat Cody in the end than it was that he wins at fire or final immunity.

I don’t think Jesse would’ve stood a chance against Cody, Cody was the more active game player and a lot better socially

I know this is a unpopular opinion but Ami would have won Fans vs Favourites if the Ozzy blindside plan had work in the pre merge

I don’t think Jesse played poorly, honestly. But he sure didn’t have good abilities in the challenges. He just needed to win final four or win in fire making, which he did not.

Putting yourself in a position where you have to win Final Four or firemaking is not a good thing, though, especially when he showed no aptitude for challenges or firemaking beforehand.
@JaredTVW8 ай бұрын
@@stephendavis6267 he showed absolutely no aptitude for winning challenges, so it would have been better for him to take better people with him to win against as well as people he felt were goats. However, he needed to make himself stand out and since he used a sure fire way to secure surviving final 6 and final 5 while showing the jury some impressive management of idols, all he needed was to find a way to either win final immunity or be competent at fire making. He knew early on how terrible he was at challenges, so he should have been competent with fire making, but he wasn’t. That’s on him for not practicing much. That’s on him.

@@JaredTVW Exactly. Jesse has no one else to blame but himself for things falling the way they did. A flashy move is not always a good move, and I think the Cody blindside is the most overrated move of the New Era because Jesse failed to capitalize on it. If he had used his idol afterwards to save Karla, he keeps a wounded shield in the game *and* weakens Karla's standing in front of the jury by making it seem like she needed him to stay in the game. Idols are more than just a trinket. They are opportunities to showboat in front of a jury. This is why Rick Devens would've swept unanimously in EoE if he'd gotten to the end. You don't need to be on the right side of the vote all the time, or even driving the votes. You need to make sure the jury thinks you're doing something and making a huge impact in the game. Jesse could have done that. He had the ammo to do it, and he squandered it.

@@stephendavis6267 I honestly think a lot of Jesse Stan’s forget just how lucky he was. Any other player in his position would say this game was easy. He honestly had so much given to him when he finally had to do something for himself, he messed up big time. He had a chance, but he squandered it, as you have said.

@@matsushitathefifth2862 agree she wasn't robbed, but still her game was better than gabler's. one of the most condescending and bitter juries I've ever seen. to be fair, it's the jury prerogative to be bitter, that's not my issue. it was just very annoying to see them denying and not owning their bitterness. they dismissed Cassidy's game and did somersaults argumentation for Gabler's game, even though he was never a target/treat for them during the game, while she was.

I don’t know how you can watch Cassidy’s edit and think that she deserved to win over anyone. She had little agency from what I watched, and only emerged as a “contender” because the visible players picked each other off late in the game.

Jesse not winning is the worst thing to happen to current day survivor. It was the final realization that now the meta is to be a complaining loser over actually doing anything. It’s now that if you win any challenge or are liked by more than two people, you have to go. Look at the current season. Most of the players left have done nothing and don’t deserve a vote in the final.

What show have you been watching if you think it's a new era Survivor trend to take out the people who have the most friends on the jury? It's been known since the early days that Survivor has been a social game, so why the surprise that everyone not named Russell Hantz will actually focus on that and not take the person with the most friends on the jury to the end in a game where the jury decides who wins?
