PERIPHERY | 'Atropos' | REACTION/REVIEW

This is my reaction/review for 'Atropos' by Periphery, the final single before the album release of 'Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre' which will be out on March 10th via 3DOT Recordings. I covered 'Wildfire' and 'Zagreus' on the channel when those dropped. I think I would rank this right below Wildfire, and Zagreus as #3 for me but regardless, looking forward to the album release. It feels like the boys are on 10. It’s so hard to say a brand new song is a favorite but this is an easy top 5 periphery song for me. Spencer solidifies why he’s the flagship of the genre.

I disagree. They haven't been on 10 IMO since the p1/p2 Era. Still love all their music but their peak was a long time ago even they're better at some things now (they're so much better at using great ideas and riffs to their fullest. So many of the songs on p1-p2 were just way too short despite being better music. All new materials comes to mind, why they didn't go into another chorus will always drive me nuts. It ends so abrupt. They would never make that mistake these days)

I didnt really feel the first two songs but that one reminded me how God-tier Periphery is. Interesting to see fans disliking it cause to me its perfection. ultra melodic, ultra violent, structured and chaotic. Beautiful. Reminds me of Dillinger a lot now

Wow, what a wild ride of a track! Those opening vocals / pre-chorus and chorus really made me think of Muse (actually let me rephrase.. I think Muse, it's been doing my head in all day because it's really reminiscent but I just can't put my damned finger on it). I digress.. The whole thing was a masterpiece!

I was on a "listening to periphery hiatus" for years (listening to whatever other stuff) and Atropos reaction videos brought me back to them soo hard. i started with P1 and loved it, but it's true, P2 is just so thick, haha, it's a joy rediscovering it all. Because the songs, each, are so complex and the song names random to the point I just can't properly memorize crap, it's literally a an adventure, almost a fresh journey. Completely forgot all those epic breakdowns, beautifull synths and blood pumping buildups and blasting riffs. I cannot believe I lived my life for the past 10 years without listening to luck as a constant and make total destroy xD

Have you ever listened to Woods of Ypres? The band has an incredible story behind them, and are absolutely worth a listen. I recommend checking out "Woods 5: Grey Skies and Electric Light" and "Woods 4: The Green Album".

Some education in djent All those major chord progressions w the clean vocals, beautiful Love when the rythm djent chuggs are unpredictable, only other band like that I listen to is northlane That pulls that off for me N its just periphery they been masters of metal writing since the beginning of Periphery They hold true to the sound but still push the boundaries n keep it fresh, kinda like August burns red, though they both have there own progression curves and different sound style The a.i. art stuff is... captivating, but creapy as hell when it gets dark aha

Wildfire is definitely still my favourite, not sure yet if this will place above or below Zagreus. Certainly seems like this will be an interesting album!
