That riff was an absolute gamechanger for me when I first heard it
@i4m3rr0r6 жыл бұрын
This riff got so much easier after I switched from using the 3rd to the 4th finger in the first position when hammering on to the 12th fret on the a string. Just a small tip for all people without mark-sized hands :P

I like the way Mark explains stuff, he is very descriptive, bot in a boring way though, but in a way that simplifies it very much, thanks mark!

how people can still label periphery as boring djent kid stuff...?
@Jinx-iw6zb6 жыл бұрын
I see djent as this progressive music with chunky riffs experimental time signature and mind blowing clean guitar parts + additional signature sound
@lostinlucidity5 жыл бұрын
The djent term was always a trendy name attached to a palm mute technique. Same shit with Thall, just something stupid for kids to grasp their heads around progressive metal.
@heylookitsn0ah5 жыл бұрын
because non-fans have only ever listened to icarus lives lol
@tarkenton38955 жыл бұрын
Djent is a style or type of rhythm guitar playing. I don't see it as a genre, but rather a characteristic that has become a defining sound for quite a lot of bands (with most typically residing in the kind of progressive metal(core) side of things. E.g. there's djenty extreme/groove stuff like Meshuggah, Sikth where it kind of started, djenty prog metal (the most obvious/popular type these days), Djenty Metalcore, Djenty Deathcore, Djenty Death Metal, Djenty Mathcore (a personal favourite), djenty post-metal, hell, even djenty nu-metal now which is a fucking weird resurgence. Suppose you could argue it's come full circle since Korn were kind of the first to do the extended range thing in metal rhythm guitar.
@Mark-OutWest5 жыл бұрын
It's the vocals that makes them do it.
@TheScaredofsilence7 жыл бұрын
Anyone know what kind of pick he's using?
@silendt7 жыл бұрын
TheScaredofsilence when I saw them in August he was using custom printed Tortex III .60mm (orange). Note, it's a full-size Tortex III, not to be confused with the much smaller Tortex JAZZ III.
@silendt7 жыл бұрын
TheScaredofsilence they're pretty fun picks, I'd highly recommend giving them a try. Pros: they reward good technique by being very precise, yet forgiving, to a relaxed picking hand. Cons: because of how thin they are, they'll give you fits if you grip them too tightly; like all Tortex picks they bend easily; and the tip wears off very quickly, which completely changes the way they "snap" off the string. You can always sharpen them on the carpet, but they won't have the same bite as they do straight out of the bag. But hey, they're picks, they're cheap! Buy a pack and try em yourself!
@TheScaredofsilence7 жыл бұрын
br&t thanks. I'm always on the lookout for new picks. Been digging the Dunlop primtone xl's. Not digging the price though.

really? We saw Mark explaining these riffs in other video already... such a waste, why not explain songs like Flatline or Habitual Line-Stepper or just later riffs of this song?
@TehBloodyYank5567 жыл бұрын
He said this is going to be a series covering many riffs that people voted on, meaning have patience the one you want is probably coming :)
@Jn1spion7 жыл бұрын
Yeah but these episodes are not endless, there are not gonna be THAT many episodes. There is an entire playthrough of this song and learn to play video of exactly these 2 riffs so doing this again seems like a waste of one... "that people voted on", it's based by comments or is there a poll or..?
