Sure, if you can forget about all the bad things that happened in the '70s, like the Vietnam War, the invasion of Cambodia, the energy crisis, long lines at gas stations, inflation, the recession, the Watergate scandal, the pardoning of President Nixon, the loss of confidence in our Government, the increase in crime and drug abuse, the pornography plague, decaying cities, the American hostages in Iran, and so and so on.

Ashamed to say it, but this went over my head.
@michaelpalmieri7335
@michaelpalmieri7335 Жыл бұрын
@@longfade In the 1970s, Anita Bryant became very controversial because of her opposition to the Gay Rights movement, especially her successful campaign to repeal a Miami city ordinance protecting the rights of homosexuals. That, of course, caused a backlash against her by angry gays and their defenders, who carried picket signs saying things like "A day without civil rights is like a day without sunshine" (a spoof of Bryant's orange juice commercials which ended with her saying "A day without orange is like a day without sunshine"), and "Anita + Adolf" inside a drawing of a heart (a reference to the fact that Adolf Hitler outlawed the rights of Germany's gay people, many of whom were sent to concentration camps, where millions of them died). The one I really remember showed a drawing of an orange and the words "Anita dear, CRAM IT!" Anyway, it was funny that the orange juice ad presented in this video showed Bryant singing a song praising San Francisco, because that city is well-known for its tolerance of those of different sexual orientations. Ironically, Bryant once said that droughts in California were God's punishment for the state's friendliness towards gays. (She often cited her deep Fundamentalist religious beliefs as a justification for her anti-gay crusades; significantly enough, one of her closest allies was Moral Majority leader Reverend Jerry Falwell.)
