Excellent stuff, this could have many more viewers! I went trough this last year with the help of an older tractor mechanic. This would have saved me heaps of time last year!

My DAF615m engine was smoking badly in the canal du midi last summer . Eventually I found it to be the copper seal leaking under the injector. Changed all the nozzles, seals and now it's okay.

Thats a good result. Could have been expensive otherwise.

Hello for old blighty, not sure I understand you. There isnt an injection pump here. Only injectors and my bench top test rig. Have I missed something?
@bradatkinson52Ай бұрын
Hi, very informative video as usual, I think I have a leak where the CAV injector pump meets the engine body, is this an easy gasket fix or more for a specialist to deal with? Keep up the good work on the channel!
@dhcrouchmarineltd3049Ай бұрын
Can you source the leak exactly? Basically yes and No. Some gaskets are easily accessable some seals are not. Anything basic you can do, anything that may affect its calibration and metering no.
@bradatkinson52Ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply, I have been manually pumping the fuel lift to try to locate the leak but not absolutely sure it's coming from the gasket to the engine mount, I'll continue to investigate. Just a question for you, would you spend money and time on a BMC 2.2 if you had one or completely scrap it and get a second hand engine with similar power? I've got a back up BMC 2.2 to strip and use the parts if my engine fails because they're hard to find.
@dhcrouchmarineltd3049Ай бұрын
@@bradatkinson52 2.2 lovely engines. But so hard to find parts now. That should say enough. If you spray break cleaner to dry the pump out and wipe any muck away. Once dry wrap some blue paper towel and then if it gets wet itll help you isolate the leak
@bradatkinson52Ай бұрын
Thanks for that advice I'll give that a try. Would you do a recondition of a BMC 2.2? I've got all spare parts if need be. I would like to keep the engine more than paying for a new one. Let me know if the job interests you? Cheers, I appreciate the help!

Very nice video. Nice and complete info but I still have a question for you. I'm on a sailboat with a Perkins 4.236 and have just had my nozzles done but I've since sailed on from the island where I had this done and I am now in a very "middle-of-nowhere" sort of place. Now I see that two of the injectors are leaking from the adjuster nut cap. I am pretty sure the shop did not replace the copper sealing washers on those. After watching your video, it seems I can attempt to fix this in the field. My question to you: Am I correct that there should be no harm done to the injector or the "pop" setting if I remove the injectors and torque down on the adjuster nut cap to 50psi as you did in the video in hopes to create a seal? I remember the man at the injector shop being very clear (although in a language I speak poorly!), not to touch the torque on the caps or the nozzle nut...but I think I trust you more.🙂
@dhcrouchmarineltd30492 ай бұрын
The caps/nuts are just a loose thread and bite into the copper. Provided you dont drag the setting screw back you'll be fine. Use a blow torch to reanneal the copper or better still replace them. Check the faces of each surface as this stuff is getting very old. You may have to lap out some pitting. Use a new oil stone very fine if you need. Be sure its flat hence new.
@strongmonty2 ай бұрын
What are the odds that I could drag the set screw as you stated, assuming I'm just setting the adjuster nut cap to 50psi? Is this a real risk, and thus proper protocol to recheck all of the pop settings after the adjuster nut cap has been torqued down?
@dhcrouchmarineltd30492 ай бұрын
@@strongmonty Its a screw. Probably unlikely but vey possible.

Would you say the thread on the inside of the forged steel housing is durable enough to use a a fine thread nipple as part of a dent puller/slide hammer removal tool? I have two injectors that simply will not come out no matter how I pry on them.
@dhcrouchmarineltd30496 ай бұрын
Hmmmmm, good question. Id say unlikely but what choice do you have. If you take the studs out can you not turn the whole body clockwise, with some lubricant of penetrant oil? These are not modern engines, so not that long an injector. Unless its rusted in. Feel free to send me some images of them. Ill see if i can think of a solution. darrencrouch@dhcrouchmarineltd.co.uk Watsapp 07809607630

Thanks for putting this online, i will give it a try myself. Would a T6354M with the turbos removed be over fueling and diesel washing the cylinders causing blow-by?
@dhcrouchmarineltd3049 Жыл бұрын
Are you getting excessive crank pressure out via the crank breather
@brianeustace4175 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response, i am getting high crank pressure and wondering if i remove and sleeve the engines will the excess diesel wash and wear the bore to cause premature wear again, if so should i fit turbos or down size the injectors to 6354 injectors@@dhcrouchmarineltd3049

Hello, I have a question: what size is the thread of the injection nozzle to the injection line? =)
@dhcrouchmarineltd30498 ай бұрын
I usually use a thread pitch gauge and measure the outside diameter. Have had some Imperial UNC. What do you need to achieve? Are you making new lines?
