Hey guys… hope everyone is doing well! We are recovering from getting slammed by the remnants of hurricane Helene. All of our crew is OK but many have lost their homes, businesses, and lives locally and across the entire southeast. Many small communities in WNC have been completely wiped out by unprecedented flooding. Our hearts and prayers are with all of those affected from Florida to Virginia. We have spent the last couple of days chainsaw trees, and helping neighbors, but the rebuilding efforts will take years. On a positive note, I found a place that had satellite Internet so I was able to release this video. Hope you guys enjoy and are staying safe.

So glad PBB and crew are ok and helping out neighbors. Hope the job site held up in all the rains. Grateful the eye of the storm went right over western Swain Co and my home so high winds were not an issue here. So very sorry others were not so lucky. The devastation in Asheville and surrounding areas is unreal! Holding folks in my heart as they deal with the long term aftermath. Wish I could help in some way but having had hip replacement surgery 9/25/24 puts me out of commission in the physical help realm. Thanks for the laughs with the love scene of Erik and Jason. Jaime’s column envy also laugh out loud 😹! I needed some levity from the last week of weather and healing from surgery! Stay safe boys, love you all!

Last night I was watching another you tuber Diesel Creek. He is having a house built and the contractor used a form board product I have never seen before. It is a hollow fiber glass 2x8 with weep holes on one side used as a form board that is left in place . Takes the place of perforated pipe for drainage . You guy's might check it out for your next build. Oh , enjoying the build process videos .

In Hawaii we seem to have the same red clay as you do, and as a rule of thumb I use 2000 pound per square foot for bearing when determining footings. I also check for punching when I know the column loading. That being said, I'm sure you have sufficient over-kill on your column foundations. Remember when had a magnetic effect when you were first putting rebar in the building foundation - you get this because clay has a platey structure and the plates act as tiny capacitors holding charge, when the vertical rebar is driven into these tiny capicators they intersect these charge points and cause a current to flow in the horizontal bars. If I had to guess I'd say the telluric current was running from the mass of the hillside to the edge of the slope.

Helene is one of the worst storms I have ever seen. A lot of help is going to be needed for at least a year. If you can find a way to help, you should help. Watch out for Scammers, make sure any donations are going to real organizations who will use 100 percent of the money on the build, not on the builders. By the way, I grew up on the east coast and have never seen a storm go the wrong way until now. I am 68.

Could you buy a bunch of all thread and cut and bend them into the wall anchor bolts? You said they were stupid expensive. Maybe making your own would be cheaper? You could use your rebar cutter and bender to do it.

Have you considered just doing reinforced concrete columns (either full concrete or core-filled block)? Surface with whatever finish is desired, but then structure would never rot.

I’m in a Florida but my daughter lives in Waynesville and has about a foot of mud in her tiny rental house. She’s ok and was able to get out 2 days later and go to Charlotte! She does hair in a salon in Asheville and who knows when it will reopen. I’m happy to heard that you and your families and workers are ok. What a horrific situation!

That’s a whole lot of work for an elevated deck. I was surprised when you said the amount of concrete was equal to several home footers, but then again you all did make them oversized so they were much more stable, so you probably doubled the original estimate of concrete needed. At the same time it makes perfect sense given the size of the materials they have to support too. Once again the quality of your workmanship comes through and you ended up with something that should last for many decades to come.
