y’know what i wish they added in the movie? the times where charlie cried. they cut out so many parts that showed that charlie was a real, authentic person and not just a numb, awkward freshman that was too drugged to show vulnerability. the times he cried highlighted who he was; a scared person who was afraid of feeling pain and being left alone to bear it.

I personally liked that they didn't add many crying scenes because it made me relate to Charlie more. Numbness is also a major part of Depression. Crying doesn't make the Depression more valid.

in the book his aunt told him to only cry over important things, so it kinda makes sense why they dont show him crying until the end of the movie during his anxiety attack because he’s forcing himself into a mindset that his aunt put him in and it also explains how during the anxiety attack scene why he’s saying “stop crying”

This is one of my all time favorite movies, but when watching it I wished they showed more with Charlie with his family. Seeing this, I wish they kept most of it, especially the brother and sister scene. It was a nice scene that imo added to both charecters. The scene with Charlie and his friend would of been a good scene to keep in to. It adds more to how he was before and how he is now.
@remaissance
@remaissance 2 жыл бұрын
Most of the scenes showed him interacting with his family and best friend. But they took this all out to sort of isolate his character from his family and friends because at times when you're an introvert, you really feel this way and deep down you just want to find your place and be accepted by friends. I wonder if there is a cut with all of these scenes added to the movie.

I won't lie, after reading the book, i was disappointed by the film. The end still made me cry but only because it brought back emotions from the book. I love the portrayals of Patrick, Charlie, Mary Elizabeth and Bill, and i loved when they were on screen. What makes the book so special is how fleshed out and three dimensional almost every character is, even ones that have hardly any focus in the story. I think this was lost a lot in the film. Charlie's relationship with Bill, Cadance, his father and mother and his family in general was lost, which disappointed me when i watched the film. I also don't like how the context of the first party scene was changed. In the book, they toast to him because they genuinely like him; he isnt shown to mention micheal to sam. This makes the moment so special, particularly when he cries. In the film, Patrick says it after Sam tells him that Charlie has no friends and his friend commited suicide. This makes it seem more like they felt pity than genuine admiration as they did in the book. ALSO the phone call between him and Sam- in the books he gave her time and she forgave him. I don't like that they added the phone call in. There was a lack of chemistry between sam and patrick, too. I think if they kept these scenes in the film would have been SO MUCH BETTER.

Feel like they should’ve kept a lot of these in the movie, they add a lot of depth to the characters which feels lacking sometimes. I especially like the one with his sister getting an abortion, really thought that one was nice cause it actually shows them having a good relationship, where the final cut doesn’t show them ever hanging out. It’s also nice that she finally apologizes for the lunch situation cause that was a dick move.

Is anyone who’ve seen this or going to see this willing to play this side by side the actually movie (it’s free on KZbin currently as of June 10, 2024) and add time stamps here of where each scene would fit in the actual movie?(…if you are able to decipher it. There might be some scenes that don’t have same setting scenes, iykwim, and you might not know where they’d belong in the final outcome of the movie or what not..idk I haven’t watched this video yet and I don’t want to because k don’t want spoilers.) BUT if anyone can do that that’s be great so I can pull up both the movie and this video side by side and play the clips in this video according to the final product of the movie! Thanks :)

I dont think charlie is the same character in the book and the movie. I still love them both, but in the book charlie is so child like and innocent. In the movie he is a lot less so

It was literally just an hour and 42 minutes. Literally just 10 minutes more than an average movie.
